Yes he did, he gave a beautiful nuanced performance. I thought it was only about an elderly man traveling on a mower to see his sick brother. Man, was I wrong. He certainly deserved the Academy Award for his performance.
I agree. I just read how he passed and it ripped my heart out. I first saw him as “Mathew Cuthbert” and then loved everything he did. Rest in peace beautiful soul. ❤
Lynch said that Farnsworth was " born to play the role. " The craigs and crevasses of his face speak volumes without words. The scene at the bar is profoundly poignant. A deeply emotional trip.
We loved him in Green Gables. Its where I remember him best from. Poor man took his own life a year after this movie in late 2000. Dying from painful cancer and partially paralyzed from it. Bless him.
Richard was a great actor. Deserved the academy Award for his Straight Story.
Absolutely, such a moving performance. I teared up a few times during the movie, but the last scene is what really got me.
Rip 🪦 Richard Farnsworth

He died the year after this..
He was in much pain apparently due to his cancer and took his life 😢
I love this man. Didn’t deserve the ending he got.
God rest his soul, he was a favorite of mine♡

Watched the film last night. This gentleman embodied peace, humility, wisdom and goodness.

There was at least one change in the movie. Alvin Straight's brother in real life was named Henry. In the movie, he was renamed Lyle.
A film that never got the recognition it so rightly deserved.
Such a great actor
Rest in Peace, Richard. 🤍

I loved this movie. He was amazing and the story is very moving.
Coming from Iowa, this film really shows what Iowa is about. It is one of my top 3 films.
he ended his own life just a few months after this....
So damn sad.
