This film shows a level of patience and trust in the audience that directors rarely afford. Lynch nailed showing the beauties of the Midwest-from the landscapes to the people.
Just finished the movie. I have never seen a movie that has so much wisdom than this one. If there is one movie you need to watch before you die, it is this one.
Hands down probably the greatest film Disney was ever involved in. Walt would have loved this picture he was searching for real film with heart and I swear this little film is such a great film
I saw the movie back in 2000. Not on the big screen, but when it aired on TV around spring. I was 11 years old. I never forgot it, and whatever people say about it being a very slow movie... They are not necessarily wrong, but I believe that is very much intentional. You feel like you are taking the journey with him. It's one of my most treasured movies.
I remember when he did this. Why aren't films like this getting more airtime ELSEWHERE? I didn't even know by the as y a film on was made. What made me think of this today as I was driving my 1996 rusty S10 and all around me at a light were all these new cars, and these guy starts blowing his horn at me. I said this jerk must be talking about my old truck, BUT I DO NOT CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK; just then as I am waiting I glance over and see this old guy on a old looking lawnmower cutting a lot and BOOM , thought of this man. Couldn't even remember his name , but I remembered he didn't care about what people thought when he jumped on that lawnmower and took off to see his brother. This man should have received a special ingenuity award from the manufacturers of America. What fortitude, what a I can do attitude. Alvin Straight the man IS a winner!
Only David Lynch could tell this masterpiece movie of a story I remember my dad telling us one morning on the duplex we shared that my parents built. My father just passed 10/23/23. My mother now in assist living. I think people in assist living or anyone else appreciate Mr Lynch an the cancer dieing main actor putting their hearts into this story about to old set in ways estraged brothers both with failing health issues an Alvin determined to see his brother 300+ miles away on his terms. Thanks for wild at heart an alvin straight story Mr. Lynch an disney
David Lynch/ Disney story of Alvin Straight. Unbelievably amazing. Remember sitting on porch with my dad an him reading paper an laughing because guy rode 360 miles on his lawn mower. Well. That was movies point an Mr Straight reminded everyone on the planet Earth we are just human an the movie says this is us. Thank you. Mociw us holy heart felt to me. Love it. Like Wild At Heart more but. Thanks:-)
Probably the most bizzare Mashup of creative influences. You have the most well known surrealist director, David Lynch, combined with the best known family entertainment corporation, Disney. The result? A strange, but beautiful and emotional film
I love this film and Richard Farnsworth, one of my favorite actors, gives a great performance . . . but I so wish it could have been James Arness, with Peter Graves playing Lyle.
Guys, this is YOUR movie! .....Why would you release a trailer in 480p?? FFS! You're doing a crazy disservice to this beautiful film, which looks gorgeous when not smeared + pixellated mush!
With no care at all as to his welfare or folks he might be effecting around him he's off to see his bro .nnnnnnnnnn wow that is precious ....... this really hit home
73 was old in the 1990’s, especially if you lived in rural parts of the Midwest or south. I’m almost 56 and don’t feel that old except that I’ve had a knee replacement. But my hips are fine and Alvin’s were shot.
David Lynch makes one of those road trip self-discovery stories This acts as a slow building character piece It takes a good 30 min for the plot to kick off Yet it’s the story of a man embracing the true meaning of brotherhood and the face value of America He’s not the most complicated man, he’s actually very simple A few issues are still present; I fail to see it as a Disney film and considering it’s by a fairly versatile director like Lynch It’s also way too long for its own good although it does exist to challenge the viewer looking at film in a whole new light Lord knows why this got such rave reviews but I guess that’s how Lynch goes in this medium Doug Walker describes this as being monotonous
Gawd this moved sucked!! At one point he pulls over to sit with some long distance bicyclists and one of them asks him why he's so depressed and can't be happy! It's ridiculous! "Oh wise tractor man, please tell me the meaning of life!''🙄🤮
David Lynch should do more films like this.
This film shows a level of patience and trust in the audience that directors rarely afford. Lynch nailed showing the beauties of the Midwest-from the landscapes to the people.
Outstanding movie well done, and all regards in all levels
Such a beautiful film. The scene between the 2 war veteran's who are strangers but not by experience is so emotional
Just finished the movie. I have never seen a movie that has so much wisdom than this one. If there is one movie you need to watch before you die, it is this one.
The fact that David Lynch could direct two movies as widely different as Blue Velvet and The Straight Story is proof of his genius.
absolutely
That's so true!
My dad, who doesn't appreciate cinema or film making or perhaps doesn't understand it, he was mesmerised by this film.
Hands down probably the greatest film Disney was ever involved in. Walt would have loved this picture he was searching for real film with heart and I swear this little film is such a great film
The greatest film Disney has ever been involved in? Are you trolling.
The greatest film Disney has ever been involved in? Are you trolling?
@@Quaquadaqu not trolling, it’s the only Disney backed distributed film that is film festival worthy
@@Quaquadaqu Nope. Disney released the film in North America and the credits still credit Disney for releasing it.
This was a fantastic movie.. Also, The Gray Fox... two of his best!

one of the best movies I´ve seen

What's bad on being old? Remembering the youth. What a great words!
This is a beautiful film.
This guys actually mu great uncle i remember my dad telling me about the story it was so fun to watch this it brought back alot of memories

Because even Disney shat on this one. Only opened in under 200 US theatres.
I remember watching this movie when I was little and really liked it. I am 35 and I JUST NOW learned David Lynch directed it?!
Very touching film and is quite a straight story from Lynch. This films sentiment is always inside me as I age...much older now...some 30 yrs ago.

This is an absolute gem. What a sweet, beautiful and heartwarming movie ❤️
Masterpiece
I've heard of this movie, but I've never seen it. Didn't realize Richard Farnsworth was in this! I might need to search this out...

Sorry. Too senile to realuze left comments. Everyone be caredul an appolgize for repeating myself
The wisest sweetest movie I've ever seen
Probably the most bizzare Mashup of creative influences. You have the most well known surrealist director, David Lynch, combined with the best known family entertainment corporation, Disney. The result? A strange, but beautiful and emotional film
The scene with the WWII vet in the bar and the scene with the bundle of sticks with the runaway are perfect.
1 of best road movies ever, it's crazy to travel that 390 km far by a tractor
All i can say is beautiful movie
Such a beautiful movie. I love it to death. Seen it at least 10 times so far.
I grew up in the 90s seeing that preview on one of my favorite movies. And I finally saw it a couple years ago and it's fantastic ❤🎉
This film is as beautiful as Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven.
A found out about this story, & the movie, from an instagram post & I got intrigued
I love this film and Richard Farnsworth, one of my favorite actors, gives a great performance . . . but I so wish it could have been James Arness, with Peter Graves playing Lyle.
Such a great movie, and Lynch did it under the ADVICE of his wife.
At some point, we all have to "go see Lyle".
Sensational Movie.
A poem of a film.
Guys, this is YOUR movie! .....Why would you release a trailer in 480p??
FFS!
You're doing a crazy disservice to this beautiful film,
which looks gorgeous when not smeared + pixellated mush!
🌄🚜✨ Absolutely Beautiful ‼️✨🚜🌄
"Hey Alvin, what's the worst part about getting old?"
"...worst part about gettin' old is remembering when you were young"
With no care at all as to his welfare or folks
he might be effecting around him he's off to
see his bro .nnnnnnnnnn wow that is
precious ....... this really hit home
Nice movie sweet deep 🙏

Straight to the heart
I cant believe i never heard of this
0:33 On Gone in see Mile.. Do You Understand
Just watched this the other day (thanks, Rich Hall).
A remarkably poignant film. Up there with the likes of *Twelve Angry Men.*
❤️
So much a soulmate haha
He's a runaway of sorts ..

Straight movie
Richard farnworth last film before suicide, good movie
I know you understand 😄
David Lynch makes one of those road trip self-discovery stories
This acts as a slow building character piece
It takes a good 30 min for the plot to kick off
Yet it’s the story of a man embracing the true meaning of brotherhood and the face value of America
He’s not the most complicated man, he’s actually very simple
A few issues are still present;
I fail to see it as a Disney film and considering it’s by a fairly versatile director like Lynch
It’s also way too long for its own good although it does exist to challenge the viewer looking at film in a whole new light
Lord knows why this got such rave reviews but I guess that’s how Lynch goes in this medium
Doug Walker describes this as being monotonous
The Rehds got totally torched hahaha
Dude needed a John Deere
I still dont get why he didnt just accept the ride
He said why in the trailer
Gawd this moved sucked!! At one point he pulls over to sit with some long distance bicyclists and one of them asks him why he's so depressed and can't be happy! It's ridiculous!
"Oh wise tractor man, please tell me the meaning of life!''🙄🤮
It's Lynch's best movie by critical consensus. You may not like it but it does not 'suck.'
The old man will have you sucked in the movie and he is a very gifted actor and this movie is a great one and on the top best movies in my books
Saw this film when I was 8 years old with my mum at the cinema, I think about the film at times. I remember that I thought it was very good
❤
