The Straight Story has a bit of the dry humor of other Lynch films, but otherwise it feels completely foreign to his other works. That’s honestly the most impressive thing about Lynch’s direction in that film is that it proves he could make literally any movie great as long as he cared about the story.
@@martalire I had to pause and think about it for a sec. I feel that The Straight Story is probably the most Lynchian of his films because the film illustrates Lynch's juxtaposing of sinister elements against everyday mundanity without the thematic and visual flourishes that he has counted on in the past. In other words, this film has all his themes and shows them in the simplest and most straight forward way.
@@elichilton7031 thank you so much for taking the time, although I don't entirely agree, I get the point. as lynch says, the interpretation of his films depends on the eyes that see them.
I was at a social gathering recently and the topic of conversation became...name your two favorite movies of all time. I mentioned my 2 favorites: Robert Bresson's, Diary of a Country Priest and David Lynch's, A Straight Story. There was not one person in the room of 20 that was familiar with either film. Sad.
Masterpiece. It is a “real” David Lynch film.

Gorgeous, deeply moving masterpiece.
You could see & feel him wearing his heart on his sleeve while watching this film.
I love watching interview footage of David Lynch more than I love life itself. Almost.
The Straight Story is a marvelous film. It is quite possibly the most "Lynchian" film that he has ever made.
interesting, could you elaborate on that?

Only Lynch movie I've yet to see.
I wish Lynch would direct more "normal" films like The Straight Story.
