I've only just recently discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying it, love to see these old beasts roar back into life! Keep up the good work and videos coming my friend :)
I owned a couple of these Senators in years gone by (Vauxhall) both 3.0 straight six. Fantastic cars, my second one was rather interesting it was one of the very last built in this series a 3.0i CD. What was interesting about the car is that it was fitted with the ABS system and other items that would be seen on the next generation of Senators. Everything was standard factory fit so we think it may have been used by Vauxhall to run the newer systems without letting everyone know what the new model shape would look like.
I don't know why I find these videos so interesting. I can sit at watch you trying to start an old car for like 1 hour. It's so satisfying when you clean it out. pour some fresh gasoline in it and se it actually start. I love it
+Europe Channel it was a piece of junk then, but it was the best that an east german could aspire to, because the failed planned economy of the gdr didnt even slightly manage to satisfy demand for trabants
+Europe Channel russian cars, yes. but they were unattainable to the small man. and just as glorified as the trabants were - either way, us west germans have a plethora of jokes about the trabants shortcomings
No, this isn't an Opel Commodore C (as sold with Holden and Vauxhal badges). Cause that one is the Holdon VK Commodore people remember as both have the pointy front end.
My grandpa had one for i think 25years. Straight 6 (in combination with a automatic transmision) truely sounded like a V8. Stationairy running so heavly that is resonated the kitchen windows. LOL.
Oh God! This reminds me of my old Holden Commodore (Australian version of the Opel) ! Just a little hint... The McPherson strut suspension towers in the engine bay of your car and very corroded. If you drove this car on a bumpy road the front suspension might have a catastrophic failure.
I had to start my Holden VL Commodore after 4 years of not running which runs a hybrid Nissan RB30DE (twin cam R33 Skyline cylinder head) & I had to unplug the fuel injectors which were all stuck (pulse them directly from the battery) & bypass the fuel tank with another fuel pump & bucket of fuel as the fuel was stale & both pumps were jammed up & corroded. So, there's possibly no chance that the Opel will start as that is as that's probably the same. The motor ran silky smooth in mine once I got it started. That looks like the same Opel 4 cylinder engine (1900cc) that Holden fitted into the Sunbird (Torana) in the 1970's. Holden replaced that with the home grown 1900cc Starfire pushrod 4 cylinder engine which was made out of a cut down 2850cc in line six. They weren't a big success in Australia & in 1984-1985 they were replaced with the 1.6 - 2.0 litre Camira which ran the first alloy headed overhead cam 4 cylinder engine which was built in Australia. The Commodore was then only fitted with 6 cylinder & V8 engines from 1984 in Australia. In New Zealand, the Starfire 4 was fitted up until 1985.
What a shame,to leave car like this for seven years.Back in the early 1980's,Opel " Senator" and Opel "Monza",were high end Opel cars.Very reliable and comfortable cars,(at least for European standards).
I am surprised to see a 4banger in a Senator. As far as I can remember these were only sold with 6-inline engines from something like 2.4-3 litres because they were supposed to fill the gap left by the Opel Diplomat and Admiral.
3 years late, but still... What you say is true for the so called Opel "KAD" chassis (Kapitan-Admiral-Diplomat), when they had 3 nameplates for 3 different trims of basically the same car. There have been I think 2 generations of KAD, after those there was this Senator (in this case it's a facelift version but it doesn't matter) which was already a flagship model in what is now the "premium E segment". Below this there were the last generations of the Rekord which had their luxury variants with 6 cylinders under the nameplate Commodore rather then Rekord like the normal inline 4's. I think the 2 litre made its way in this generation of the Senator for the additional taxes Italy and Portugal had beyond 2000 cc, and to have an entry level offer to the model in slightly less wealthy markets.
Because in germany you pay taxes based on the engine size. A smaller engine is much cheaper then a bigger one. So usually only germany has these smaller engined ones
in germany (and afaik continental-europe) you could buy the senator and monza also with the rekord / carlton-engine, first he 2.0i (110 HP), later the 2.2i (116 HP)
hi man , i really love your channel . really good videos . but i have 2 questions . i will be happy if you answer . 1-) where do you find all these cars ? 2-) what do you do with them afterwards?
good job. just two questions. 1- do you not change the motor oil before doing that? 2-why not use some ether starter fluid-just very little of it to be squirted into the air intake manifold? thanks again
Hello I saw a lot of videos and I'm impressed that many cars were restarted after many years! I want to know what you change except the battery pack for my neighbor to a Peugeot 106 1.0i petrol, which is stored in a garage out of the weather that did not tour for 8 years. If I have the opportunity to recover I would ride again but I aimrais know the "steps" to do to get it right. PS: sorry for my bad English ^^Thanks ;)
Why is the hose for the fuel feed looks so tiny? And how did it start with just a small amount of fuel in the bottle cap? Never seen that procedure before.
+Codenwarra Cove Maybe in terms of rust, The Aussie climate is better.. and i think the V8's are better than the 2 litre's.. but in a way, they are the same cars
+smallenginedude71 VK VL shell with a crappy 4 banger in it...I love ure V8,s u have there in Aus and i dislike the newer LS engines i love the old 253 308 but most of all the EFI Holden 304/355...
There was a Commodore with a 4 cylinder motor. It was basically the 186 cu" straight 6 Holden "red" motor with two cylinders lopped off to create a 4 block. It was a very robust little engine BUT it was gutless. The Holden Commodore 6 with this body shell only came to life with the 202 straight 6 EFI motor of the "VK" series and, of course, a couple of years later with the 3 litre Nissan motor (which you could also get as a turbo-charged unit).
In Germany, that is. I don't know about other countries. The lower-range Record had a 2.2 litre, so I wonder where this 2.0 came from .There was even a custom-bult long wheelbase version of the Senator.
Rekord E was also delivered with a 1.8 and 2.0 liter Inline 4 carburated engines. 2.2 I was only sold in E2 between 1983 and 1986. Manta and Ascona B also used the 2.0 liter from 1977.
If a car has been sat that long, I would drain the old petrol and put in fresh petrol. I would the change the spark plugs and renew the battery. It would then start much more easily.
wants a new water pump and the tappets adjusting an oil and filter change and then it will run forever, very very tough engines those old opel cam in head units.!!
i guess intake backfire. they use the little hose for ignition-correction by low-pressure to get gas into the intake for machine run. after a while you get an explosive mix which causes this backfire
many years ago I saw an Opel Kapitan for sale. I drove it and found it hard to shift but the saleman told me that was normal ! h a, salesmen cannot be trusted here :) chuck
I hope you won't let it rot after this, this car deserves love again.
When the apocalypse comes, you will be those who command the world. Congratulations.

i first thought "ouuw dayumn! that thing is dying..it already sounds like an tractor" then i saw the tractor
Haha i tought the same xD
Miss wendy nl
of course it s a tractor, the oil is not oil anymore and they are running the engine with it, make the test in your car, woul be ruined...
Same here lol. Wonder if they fixed it up and used it.
I believed in the car🌝

I miss my Opel Kadett 1.3 sedan 1987
@@volodymyrbondarenko6539 fabulous cars
Shows how solid these old Opel engines really were. Built to last. Not so much for the rest of the car though lol.
+nelizmastr That's exactly what former east germans say about the Trabant, and compared to modern cars it's a piece of junk
+Europe Channel it was a piece of junk then, but it was the best that an east german could aspire to, because the failed planned economy of the gdr didnt even slightly manage to satisfy demand for trabants

I like this car, looks nice in my opinion.
My dad had a Vauxhall Astra of similar vintage. It did pretty well. Never cost him much.
Australians be like *It's a Holden Commodore*
No, this isn't an Opel Commodore C (as sold with Holden and Vauxhal badges). Cause that one is the Holdon VK Commodore people remember as both have the pointy front end.
Here in south america it's a Chevrolet Monza
In Finland Opel Commodore and Senator later, displacement 6cylinder 2.5 and 3.0l Opel Record came with 4cyl 1.7 and 1.9 2.0 engines Ascona Manta Monza
In Australia 4 cyl 1.9.....6 cyl 2.8 and 3.3 ...also v8 4.2 and 5 litre.
in australia thats a vk commodore, can tell by the rear quarter glass.
У меня когда то был такой 3ех литровый, оставил хорошие воспоминания
А движок на нем стоит с Recordа.
god i love 60fps. nice vids you got there, keep up the good work!
Wow, sat from 2009 and still started.
Never knew that a 2 litre version of these were made as I only ever saw the 3 litre 6 cylinder version.
You got it going, love the doubled up jumper leads.Keep up the great video's.

4 cylinder Senator ??
We never got that in the UK. Just a 2.8 & 3.0 straight 6. Possibly the 2.5 six too.
In Germany 4 Zylinder 2,2 l/115 HP. Models with Plastic Bumper.
Because in germany you pay taxes based on the engine size. A smaller engine is much cheaper then a bigger one. So usually only germany has these smaller engined ones
spacegarnaal
Ah, I see. We had the Carlton/Rekord for 2.0 & 1.8 litre engines.
+Lewis72 It must have been absolutely gutless as the 2.5 & 2.8 were pants as well.
Only the 3.0 24v engines started to bring them alive in UK at least

Mighty fine Vauxhall’s of this era. Shame it’s in a real state!
That has been sitting for a long time.
It sounds like the tractor - the oil has turned to treacle in the sump?
New oil and air filter, little polish here and there and that will be an excellent and retro-style daily driver.
I'm hoping you guys change the oil prior to running the cars??

Did they sell Senators with a 2.0E? i thought it started at a 2.5E 6 cilinder inline...
I thought, it started with a 2.2i engine after the facelift

Why don't you use ether or the like? Would make things so much easier.

Thank you very much for your videos. Subscription is a must *THUMBS UP*
Thank you!
Battery wasn't the problem. Why did you use jumpeer cabels????
wants a new water pump and the tappets adjusting an oil and filter change and then it will run forever, very very tough engines those old opel cam in head units.!!
Did they even bother putting fresh oil in that? It sounds like a bag of nails!

i guess intake backfire. they use the little hose for ignition-correction by low-pressure to get gas into the intake for machine run. after a while you get an explosive mix which causes this backfire
