- Finally, I get around to cutting and tumble polishing some beautiful Killaloe Jasper with some . . . unexpected results.
Although this rock appears to be an Opalite or Common Opal the name Killaloe Jasper seems to have stuck, so for now and until I hear otherwise that's what I'll call it.
Oh wow. That's a very interesting looking jasper
It sure is, I think Opalite rather than Jasper would be a better description but the term Opalite tends to get some people a little riled up 😁either way it is very interesting 👍
My Goodness The Colors Do POP LIKE CRAZY!!!
Thank you 👍☺
Wow even pre polishing the colours are stunning!!! Gotta admit I've been waiting for you to cut and polish some of this stuff in a vid. I agree they aren't as "shiny" as your normal stuff after the full process but still so interesting to look at - thanks Paul
Thank you, I guess not all rocks need to be super shiny . . . but I was hoping these would be 😄
They are still gorgeous despite the lack of gloss. I have buckets of rocks that didn’t live up to my expectations but I spent so much time on them I won’t get rid of them!
Thanks Abby, I may have a bit of a play around with them but I have a batch of Agates calling 😁
I found when the rocks don't shine, i put a few drops of dishwashing liquid in tumbler & tumble for couple of hours then do polish again. Seems to help. Good luck Paul.
Thanks Anne I might experiment a bit 👍
Beautiful!!!!
Thank you Brian ☺

Thank you, I'll keep a lookout for your videos 👍
Maybe a tad soft for polish? Have you tried to polish one on a wheel? Still beautiful material!
I think you're right Peter, I know Noreena Jasper doesn't tumble to a nice gloss but comes up well on a wheel . . . I may do a bit of experimenting
I JUST REMEMBERED TO 👋 THE LIKE 🎉🎉🎉!!!
😀😃😄😆
It really is a wonderful coloured rock, dont know why you didnt get a higher gloss finish.I ran mine up to a 15000 wheel and ended up with a nice gloss, that is really weird. They still came out nice though Paul.
Hi Gordon, yeah for some reason the wheels seem to give a much higher gloss, I've noticed that with Noreena Jasper too but I'm not going to finish every one by hand 😄
@@paulhardie No that would be a time consuming effort.
@@GordonVincent I plan on running a few on my diamond discs later today 👍
I have been told not too much water in a vibrating tumbler. When you open it there is a lot of water in it. Do you add water before you take them out to clean them?
You are absolutely correct Bill, when the rocks go in the vibe they are just wet, there is no standing water, what you're seeing is when I empty the bowl after an hour or so of rinsing with the bowl full of water 👍
How is this different than Mookaite?
In colour it is similar to Mookaite but in the way it glosses . . . or more to the point doesn't gloss . . . it is a very different rock 👍
