The Cheals are always whining about being broke even after making $500,000.
So you think running an operation like that costs nothing? Breakdowns cost money, some repairs on large equipment can get into high tens of thousands of dollars, fuel is around AU$2.50 - $3.00 per litre where they are. There's council rates, water licences, equipment maintenance, food, power generators .....I can go on and on.

@@auintogold4725He really could keep going on and on. He also has a partner, so its immediately split 50/50. All his kids get a percentage of that as well, plus bills at home and whatnot.
You think it's a lot of money, but when you haven't found any opal in 6 months, with all the costs to operate, that money goes fast.
You know nothing about this business if you think 500k makes you set for a lifetime. 😂

I wonder if it is a Media Scripted TV Proformer thing where they are Down on their Luck and constantly mention outgoing costs and then exuberance when they hit a valuable pocket and that way they get the POP and BANG of contrasting emotional energies that makes for interesting TV ? It's just like Deadliest Catch or Gold Rush with Parker's exploits that makes me wonder if it's scripted and designed to be like this for the TV Producers. Interestingly neither the Opal miners, Deadliest Catch or Gold Rush mention how much they get in Royalties from the stories aired on RUclips or TV
