Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Hello, Mary Ellen! Glad to make your acquaintance! I love the purple with black speckles...reminds me of 😂 Impressionist paintings...like "Starry Night ".
I look at Jasper and I see work by Vincent Van Gogh and Edvard Munch, it’s the swirls that do it for me and the natural colours too. Keep them coming Taylor.
The first 5 close up photos were like looking into a lava flow, 😎and the last one looked like the new earth after the lava flow cooled and healed for thousands of years.💯✔ Beautiful! Thank you for sharing "Rock Bottom" in Ohio
@@AgateDad OMG either!!! I'm hoping to get some more tools in a month or so. I'm hopefully selling a LOT of rocks next weekend! I have enough LOL... Or do I? For real though I HAVE to get polishing pads or something soon because I'm swimming in agate here. 2022 is going to be a big year for me. Anyway rock on dude. Always enjoy your videos
9:31 If you imagine the stromatolite fossils on a much larger reef structure scale that's EXACTLY how most of the lace agate druse quartz formed in Missouri. Unfortunately the stromatolite fossils were dolomite and are gone now but silica filled all the voids and you can see molds of the fossil stromatolite structures on the back of some of my druse quartz pieces. Kind of like a fossil of a fossil. Did I mention I like stromatolite fossils... LOL I'll be quiet now... Great video Taylor. I really enjoyed it. The Mary Ellen Jasper is amazing!!!
Absolutely stunning.. so beautiful!! I am a total nut for rocks...all kinds of rocks!! Someday I really hope to have a saw and polishing wheel!! I have so many rocks it's almost sickening cause I can't keep hauling them around with me!! LOL and I can just imagine what they'd look like if I were able to cut into them!! I hope to win one of your contest.. I would totally love a piece you found up in Lake Superior!!
I'm always fascinated by this stone. It's amazing to think that it was once one of the first life forms on the planet! One can hold the history of the planet in the palm of their hand by simply picking up a stone. Any stone!
I need a saw. I have a bunch of jaspers that I’ve been collecting and I would love to see what is inside of them. I really love the inspiration on these videos. Thank you so much.
Very nice. The tiny fractures are part of the beauty of the stromatolite fossils If you were that old and tossed on the Michigan beaches you might show a few age related fractures also.
Yep, dude, that was a pretty awesome surprise, not only because of the beauty of those pieces but also because, where I live, stromatolite reefs are found, nothing beach-tumbled such as the stuff you find in your area.
I love stromatolite fossils!!! Lots of the druse quartz I find formed in the cavities of fossil stromatolite. Our stromatolite fossils in Missouri aren't quite as pretty colors at least none I've found yet... Those are really beautiful. I hope you find at least 2 or 3 buckets full this summer. 👍
Such beautiful stones! Thank you for your channel, have wanted to learn about our area rocks for a long time & LOVE to see what's inside so much! Thank you for showing us your treasures. Someday maybe I can get some cabs from you for wire wrapping!
Just gorgeous. I think we have one of these at home about the size of a bowling ball, although about 3x as heavy. The swirls on the outside are so neat-you’ve now made me incredibly curious what’s on the inside. Thank you for your very inspiring videos!!
Spent day at the shores of gloucester ma rock hunting beachcombing and mudlarking now having carbs and coffee and wachin agate dad yay luuuv the green and black spotty one
Love the purple i have some really cool pieces i yet to get a saw yet but I'm hoping soon because I'm running out of room to put all these stones 🤦🏼♀️
Beautiful!! I have some rocks from up there, whenever on a trip to Ely Minnesota. I'll look at them closer. It would be awesome to have some as nice as yours. Thank you for the info.
Nice, i use a 7inch saw myself...you may get more life from your blades if you used mineral oil instead of water.. I use a a brick and tile blade but i cut far smaller stones.
Cutting rocks open so much fun that red orange one my favorite . Now y’all defrosted yet to go hunting? It’s already getting to hot down in the desert.
I would love to cut it in half and then get two stands that fit together so they can roll together as it looks “whole” and then roll away and see inside
Taylor, those are some absolutely stunning pieces!!! My favourite was definitely the last one! I can't wait to see some of the first specimens turned into cabochons. Question, is Mary-Ellen jasper unique to the US side of Lake Superior or would there be chances.of finding in on the Canadian side? I only ask because most of the Lake Superior Rock Identification books are based solely on what is found in the USA. Anyways, thank you for another great video. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
The Mesabi BIF (Banded Iron Formation) which hosts the stromatolites, runs to the Northeast until it is cut off by the Duluth Igneous Complex. Then it appears again in the Boundary Waters N.P. as the Gunflint Formation. This runs up through Thunder Bay and curves back into the lake. The material he is collecting at the North Shore comes from the Gunflint Formation to the north. I did a trip about six years ago and collected stromatolites from west of Biwabic clear up across the border to Thunder Bay.
Are you able to cut a approximate 130 pound marry ellen jasper? We found one that's red, gold, black ,blueish green ,and white one I can't wait to see the inside of
Amazing! only problem is I cringe watching fingers so close to the saw blade. Can't you use a big guide supporting each rock so your fingers are protected and far away. All fingers available help pick up future rocks.

That is beyond stunning. I love it all. It's so wild to see how each slice changes just slightly. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks ❤️ just the basic thin sintered from High Tech Diamond

Whats the hardness of those? They'd make good for sculpting
How do you tell the difference between a plain rock and an agate? I always thought an agate had distinctive swirls.
I am still not sure how to ID stromatolites, do you have any tips?
I should have shown the exterior more, next time I will. They just look like jasper but have a “swirl” pattern on them that makes them stand out
@@AgateDad Gotcha. I would love a good look at the outside next time! Thank you :)
