I think I've created a monster . . . after returning from our first serious rock hunt together my wife decides she's going to make a rock garden of her own.
I've got to give her credit too, out in 37 degree temperature (100F) she did a fantastic job, so much so it's got me reconsidering my own now.

Very nice.
Mookaite is still my most favourite stone 😍😍😍 thanks for introducing me Paul! One day is one day, then i am going to import some!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Yours and mine 😁
Love your videos, any suggestions for rock hunting around Two Rocks. Totally understand if you don’t want to divulge any secrets! Thank you
Thank you. Are you serious about rocks near Two Rocks ? There is nothing but Limestone for 100s of kilometres in any direction. The closest rocks of any interest would be the Darling Range where you'll find lots of Quartz and Granite, next closest would be Moora for Chert then Paynes Find about a 4-5 hour drive for the first trace of some really interesting rocks like Jaspers and Breccia. Most of the rest of the state has an abundance of beautiful rocks, except for the coast. You'd be better off coming down to Yanchep and having a look at the masses of beautiful WA rocks I've collected and sell 👍
@@paulhardiehahaha I thought as much, most informative Paul thank you. Do you still run your pop up shop?
So cool! Your videos are amazing
Thank you ☺
Sorry Paul but i am still crying its like giving an alcho a tour through a winery. Can look but cannot do anything with them So sad.
😄have you tried rockaholics anonymous ? 😆
@@paulhardie Cruel Paul so cruel.
@@GordonVincent 😆apparently I have to be . . . if I want to be kind 😉
I don't know how a person could see and be around rocks like those everyday and not get totally and utterly hooked!! They're absolutely gorgeous!!!
Yeah, it just took her a little longer than normal 😁
What an awsome rock garden😊
Thank you, I'll let her know 😃
Now, that's a knife ... err I mean rock garden!
Very funny 😆
Amazing video!! Thanks for sharing!! Happy New Year!!
Thank you, glad you liked it, Happy New Year to you too 👍
Strangely, I found a piece of mookaite in my living room yesterday! Strangest part-I live in the United States!! 😮 No idea how it got here. Never been to Australia.
That is weird 🤔. . . good, but weird 😁
Beautiful colors and patterns of assorted rocks. Would be nice to see you and your wife out on a rock retreat together. All the best for 2025!
Thank you, I made a video of our trip a few weeks ago, I'll add a link 👍 ruclips.net/video/ZrLptk9ipWg/видео.htmlsi=qCoByF6eSlQAMgBO
@paulhardie Thank you for the link. A wonderful video. Hyden seems unique and special. The rocks are just outstanding. The two of you made my day.
@@coldpond thank you I showed the missus your comment, she's a bit under the weather today, it cheered her up ☺
Great assortment of rocks,love it!
I'll let her know 👍😄
Happy New Year. How do rock gardens do over time long term? Do the rock fade in the sun? Do they breakdown or chip or crack over several seasons? Does it collect debris like dry leaves that needs to be cleaned or blown out regularly? Basically will it look the same 10, 15, or 20 years from now? Do you continue to change out the rocks to keep it looking good?
Hay Stan, Happy New Year to you too 👍 The rocks are pretty tough, some like Amethyst will fade a little but most stay the same, some of the Chrysolcolla might disintegrate a little. Weeds are the main issue but I quick spray of weed killer every few months takes care of them. Dust will make them appear dull but a quick hose down cures that 😄
Can sure see why your wife decided to make her own little patch , looks awesome indeed , cheers
Thanks Rick, I'll pass on your compliments 😃👍
So cool! 🙂
Yes she did a good job 👍
That looks AMAZING, very cool and congrats on hitting 4k in subscribers ✌😎✌
Thanks Mahnee, I'll tell you what though, it's really not easy 😳
These are so beautiful. I actually have a small bucket of these. Some I've already tumbled, and the rest are still to be done. The colours sure are exciting. You did a great job on the shine. I'm really going to have to get a ultrasonic now 😂😂😂
Thanks Nicola, I thought you would already have one, I think they're indispensable 👍
@paulhardie not yet, but I'm going to have a look for one.
@@nicolagraynewzealandrockho8976 you won't regret it 👍
Happy new Year 😉
Hey, the same to you my friend ☺👍

That's absolutely beautiful. What happens if you see something you'd like to cut up, will you get in trouble if you steal a rock from her garden 😂😂😂
We'll see when it happens . . . and it will happen 😆
At first I thought, that garden is really nice!!!. And then I thought like Nicola. God knows what happens when you start stealing the rocks😆😆

Amazing!😁
I think so too ☺
Quick qustion, i recently received a rock tumbler and when i went onto aussie saphire to order grit i was unsure what to get. For stage 3 grit i got 1500 aluminum oxide extra fine pre polish. I am concerned that this might change the final results. What are your thoughts?
I would get some #600 Silcon Carbide as stage three (that's what I use) using the #1500 AO as stage 3.5 before final polish can only help you achieve a better gloss 👍
😂terrified wood, definitely has to be the new name
😆 I still get a chuckle when I think of it 😁
I see you cut and then tumble those Agate Creek Agates, and I wish I had just a few pounds of those, even a dozen or so agates would be great!
Hi Michael, I take it by your use of pounds you're probably in the US, I certainly sell all the rocks I have but the cost of shipping to the US is usually a deal breaker, if you're still interested it's best to email me at - print@westnet.com.au - to discuss 👍 Paul.
Your trip looked like so much fun. The rock you are finding are just insanely beautiful.
I've actually done that same trip between Norseman and Kalgoorlie three times in the last three months 😁some very nice material there 👍
@paulhardie you are very lucky to live in rock paradise.
@@nicolagraynewzealandrockho8976 I wouldn't disagree 😁
I know what you mean about the kangaroos, back in 1993 i did a backpackkng trip to Aus, i was on a bus in the dusk. We hit so many Roos, it was awful.
Yeah it's a good idea to avoid travelling at dusk and dawn in certain areas, they're such dopey animals 😄
@paulhardie I was on a bus heading from Adelaide to Brisbane. It broke down at a place called Yunta, in the middle of nowhere 🤣 The bus was full, and I had the front seat. By the time we got going , it was dusk, omg it was awful.
@@nicolagraynewzealandrockho8976 certainly is exciting . . . especially if it's not your vehicle 😁
Wonderful video, so lovely to see your wife. You sure found some beautiful stones. Happy new year to you both. Wishing you lots of successful rock hunts
Thank you Nicola and a Happy New Year to you and yours, I hope your vibe tumbler is working well
@@paulhardie the vibe is amazing, I'm so impressed with how well it works. Im still waiting for my polish, I've only done 220, and 600 in it.
@@nicolagraynewzealandrockho8976 keep me posted 👍
Love your video. May ask what is silicon carbide is use for?
Thank you ☺I'm not sure what other uses Silicon Carbide has but in rock tumbling it's used to shape the rocks through constant grinding in the tumbler, starting at #46 or #80 grit then moving onto #220 and #600 getting smoother with each grit change then finally using Aluminium Oxide as the polish 👍
It seems your club members belong to "The gray gold club"😁. The stone club I'm a member of, are all members over 47 yers old. Funny rocks doesnt seem more attractive to younger people. Really good video. Happy New Year to you and yours🎉. Greetings from a stormy and wet 7 degrees Celsius Denmark.
We have quite a few "younger" members, the rock hunts are usually during school/work days so it's mostly retirees who go on them, although we did have a 13 year old on this one 👍and greetings from a hot and sticky Western Australia 😁
Is banded iron worth anything ? I’ve got an 88 pound banded iron rock
I guess it depends on how nice it looks and the colouring, here in Western Australia it is extremely common, however we also have Tiger Iron which is Banded Iron with bands of Tiger Eye mixed in, that is worth considerably more than plain Banded Iron, I made a short on it, see below 👍 ruclips.net/user/shortsc-aRW81K1HI?feature=share
WTF is Q?
😆it's the town after P just before you reach R 😆 The town of Cue in Western Australia 👍
@@paulhardie Oh, I thought maybe it was some form of bogan slang mispronunciation or something.
@@johnnynephrite6147 😆😆😆
Thank you
I hope you enjoyed it Vicki 👍
Really loved seeing examples of what the different rock varieties look like rough, as well as what they look like tumbled. Sometimes it's hard to picture what a rock will look like once it's polished, so seeing both versions was eye opening and really neat. Personally, i think I would be interested in seeing more videos just on that aspect in the future...maybe pick 1 type of rock per video and just show a few examples of the rough. Then, maybe make a few slabs with it. You could talk about its properties; its mohs hardness, how difficult is it to work with, any special considerations with it, how well does it tumble. Then, you could end by showing some pieces after theyve been tumbled. You offer a large variety of high quality, well sought after rocks. Many of those aren't readily available from anywhere else. Making videos like this would introduce new people to the selection you offer, while also giving them all relevant info to each type.
Great minds think alike hey ? 😃 I was just about to start a series of before and after rock video shorts now that I've uploaded all of the rock cutting ones, it'll take a while as I need to get another batch cut up and tumbling to keep the tumblers moving.
@paulhardie That's awesome!! Looking forward to them!

Pink Clinozoisite, Rich Pseudomorphus after plagioclase AKA Marshmellow WA. Nice rock, and so is the Emeralds.

@@paulhardie Good afternoon happy new year with health and many successes in the field!! Of great interest (worldwide) are the mines of Lavrio with over 700 types of minerals plus over 30 endemic minerals that have been found for the first time in the mines of Lavrion!! Almost all of Greece and especially in northern Greece is full of rocks such as jasper, agates, chalcedonians and petrified woods and in some areas plus some islands there are rubies, sapphires, gold and diamonds and many more in various areas!!
@@GREEKEXPLORERS WOW sounds like you have a terrific range of rocks over there, do you go out collecting ?
Amazing!
Thank you Theo ☺
It's called Afghan Rock for the cameleers who watered their camels there on their way through. While some water collects in pools on the top of these granite outcrops, a lot of it also soaks in around the base, so they could get water most of the year by digging.
I tried doing a bit of research before posting but it seams there are two Afghan Rocks in WA, the one we saw near Cue and another near Balladonia . . . buggered if I could figure out which was the history of the one we visited 😆
@@paulhardie Probably both are named for the same thing.
@@victoryoneable quite possibly 😀

So, do you see a picture in it ? 😄
@paulhardie 🤣 excuse my imagination but to me it looks like dalmatians and dalmatian puppies, an abstract painting 😍 but i also just watched a video about the worlds deepest cave, and it looks like a picture taken from inside a cave as well 😄
@@HettieJansenVanVuuren wow . . . that's some imagination 😄
