      Hey Alan i am super confused in buying either Charge 5 or Stockwell 2, budget is not an issue loudness is not a requirement, deep clear heavy bass with clarity and long tern enjoyable sound is preference, can you recommend one???? I hate when something is loud but muddy….30-40% volume is required, dont like to increase the volume to get deep clear bass.@alan

    I've been binging your reviews and bought both of these speakers to try myself. The bass is better with Marshall and I love how I can FEEL the bass with the Marshall. I can't feel the JBL bass at all. But as you said, the JBL does sound a lot cleaner with more clarity, though. I would prefer Marshall when trying to feel the song and JBL when trying to listen.
    They better make a stockwell 3 with more volume and pairing modes! Thank you for all the work and information you dish out.

    Honestly the reason why I subscribed to your channel besides you being entertaining is I still learn stuff from you now I already knew about the Marshall processing from oluv gadgets but you go a lil more in depth it kinda sounds like Sony live sound in a way but for my use I prefer the JBL

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  3 года назад +2

      yeah i dont think its like the sony, the sony to me is more like a virtual surround where you can hear a lot of the track is wrong or missing but it gives a nice impression of a venue. but the drivers are both on axis so they can do more of the virtual surround stuff. with the back to front drivers they are more limited in what they can do which i like, i dont really get a sense of what im missing from the stockwell.

    Marshall stockwell 2, the speaker i daily drive and tbh i bought it knowing its qualities and limitations thanks to oluv kek, and imo this is the best marshall ever had to deliver overall specially sound, compared to other marshall speakers this one plays deeper and most neutral/serious not as messy, tho it is also the 2nd least powerfull of the brand. Still i think this one when came did quite a revolution imo it nit only completly smashed the original model but also those cheap china ripoff clones, also i personally regard it king in this category, outpeforming the b/o p6, dali kach etc..
    Tho it also has its limitations and most of them mentioned in the video, but what i am going to tell is that this speaker is more for low/moderate lvls still accepteable up to max but better when lower (had compared to others in this class also at max on oluvs database and yeah it competes quite well). But yeah hope marshall makes more speakers like this one cause they just make them bommie/granie sounding witch is such a waste cause they do have a quality and awesome lifestsyle designs.

    Hmm… Im slightly taken aback that you’ve reviewed the MS2, especially when you consider it’s been out for a minute and, of course, it being pricey. With that said I copped the MS2 on cyber Monday 2019 (deep discount, much? ☺️) and I have to confess that I was slightly disappointed. Mainly with the volume. It’s great indoors but when I take it outside it pretty much gets swallowed up by city noise. Also, aesthetically it’s retro design is interesting and unique but that novelty wears off mad quick (at least for me). So, not the most practical form factor when it comes to portability. With all that said the MS2 mainly lives at home, on a shelf, 6 inches from a wall, and it sounds great there 🙂

    Alan Ross Reviews Top Picks:
    Pound for pound world champion:
    Soundcore Motion Boom: geni.us/motionboom
    Amazingly deep bass to 40hz for its size and price.
    Still worth a look:
    My former world champ the Soundcore Motion Plus can still offer great clarity.

    £50 champion:

    Onyx Studio 6: geni.us/onyxstudio6
    Best Micro Options:
    Bose Soundlink Micro (warm): geni.us/bosesoundlinkmicro
    Tribit Stormbox Micxro (clinical): geni.us/tribitstormboxmicro
    Worth a Look:
    W-King T9: geni.us/wkingt9
    The T9 is a reasonably loud and balanced party speaker with a big bright detailed sound.
    Budget Loud Boombox: no clear winner but my pick for fun outside listen would be:
    W-King X10 geni.us/wkingx10
    Travel Speakers:
    Marshall Stockwell 2: geni.us/stockwell2
    offers a decent immersive sound with full and tight bass. Beware though it does go very loud
    JBL Charge 5: geni.us/jblcharge5
    Only mono but has a very clear and dynamic sound at low volumes and can go reasonably loud but will become a little screechy over 80%.

    Hi Alan, love your reviews!
    I recently bought a JBL Charge 5, and i have to say that i hate the high frequencies, they sounds very distorted (cymbals and especially the hi-hat drives me nuts sometime)..to the point that when i went home from the store after the purchase i went straight back after 2 min. listening, sure that a twitter was broken, but after some discussion with the guy working there, we did a comparison with another JBL Charge 5 speaker and..yes..it was really sounding the same.
    I'm wandering if you feel the same or it's just my ear...or maybe the whole stock of JBL Charge 5 of that store was damaged o.O
    I'm now wandering if going for the Sony xb43 (it seems very good, but is very huge), xb33 (right size but seems to be a big step backwards compare to the xb43, right?), Marshall Stockwell II, or even give it a try with the Charge 4 cause of the aux-in that is a big plus to me.
    One last question, does the Stockwell II has an aux in?
    Thanks in advance and huge thanks for the great work you're doing with this channell!

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  2 года назад +4

      yes the stockwell does an aux in. the sony xb43 would be a very safe option, never fantastic but never terrible but its way heavier than the charge 5. also what was the version number for the charge 5? different versions sound different. xb33 is ok but for me a bit cloaked sounding. the charge 4 will sound smoother for sure but maybe muddy by comparison. i love the stockwell 2 but it can also be a bit sharp in the highs although you can dial that down. no mention of the motion boom or motion plus in there?

    • @alexpanza4080

      @@alanrossreviews Thanks for the fast and kind answer!
      The version is the TL (I've read the ND should have better bass, is this true? Still I can't complain about the bass here).
      But hey, listen to this: I've just opened the jbl app and find out that there's a new firmware update to version 0.8.2.0 (I did the last one less then a month ago so I was pretty up to date),just runned the update (kinda big one since it take 10+ minute) and now I've just listened 3-4 min. and it seems to sound way better!!
      I honestly haven't took much in consideration the soundcore, I simply don't know nothing about them and saw them losing some comparison here and there. Am I doing wrong?

      @@alanrossreviews, if I understand it correctly :
      The Bose Flex has warmer sound
      And the Marshall Stockwell 2 has light a bit like raspy "old lady smoking her whole entire life - kind of voice sound", isn't it?
      For me: price and money is not an issues but Im working all days and always have music and speaker on in the background while working (dental clinic).
      So I need not only to please myself but also my patient and my dental assistant' ears.
      What I'm looking for is a speaker which doesn't tire your ears in a long run.
      I have narrowed it down to 3 speakers:
      1) Bose Flex with the warmer nature
      2) Marshall Stockwell 2 with the if I'm not mistaken raspy style
      And
      3) Vifa Helsinki - with the more neutral? sound. Almost like it comes straight from a Oldschool radio or something?
      At this stage, I dont even know what to choose anymore.
      I listen mostly to Retro Wave and soft and chill house electro music in case that matters.
      What do you think? What would you choose if you were me of all the speakers possible?
      Ofc I can't have a too big size speaker in a small clinic room either but yeah, my limit of size goes to that size of Anker Boom or what ever it's called.
      Would appreciate for your help and advice! :)

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  2 года назад +1

      I wouldn’t say the stockwell 2 is raspy, actually quite sweet for me just a little edgy rather than raspy.
      for me it would be between the stockwell 2 and Helsinki. The stockwell 2 has a good all round balance and the only issue is lack of volume and slightly too much echo due to the phase shifting itn uses for fake stereo. The Helsinki does seem to be one the pursists love but for me was a bit boring and the sound wasn’t wide enough given its price. So the stockwell is better value and probably a little warmer while the Helsinki can dig deep with tighter sound and bass but could sound a little closed in and very expensive.

      @@alanrossreviews , Thank you Alan for your honest advice!
      Yeah, the Stockwell 2 had the infamous low volume problem but did you notice a lot of "static noise" with that speaker?
      I heard some people complained that you will need to maximize your phone volume and only use the physical knobs on the Stockwell2 in order to adjust the volume - if you want to avoid the static noise.
      Is that true according to you? I'm really tempted to order that Stockwell2 online today since I live far away from the physical stores that sells this speaker.
      That's why I want to ask you first to be sure before buying.
      Planning to put the speaker in a corner of the room facing us forward from the front - and using only the phone as a way to adjust the volume, hence I need to know if this will create static noise as a side effect or not.
      And I also saw your review of the Onyx studio 4 as well but yeah, so many speakers, Im kinda lost in the speaker jungle haha.
      Thanks once again Alan for your expert tips!

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  2 года назад +1

      i havent reviewed the o4 although i do have it and its pretty decent but all the onyx series have small batteries. i havent got that problem with my stockwell nor did i get feedback on it. i always keep the stockwell at max and adjust with my phone. you may find you have more bass if you dont put the stockwell to max. i havent really tested this because its fine for me but speakers use the internal volume setting for the dynamic adjustment. so if they think they are at max volume you wont get the bass boost.

I have tried 4 of them and they all sound the same. also for a 6+ pound speaker it just is not that powerful. rated at 45w but i think the charge 5 can beat it. my stockwell 2 sounds more impressive then the rails in terms of sound quality. these speakers are make by Zound industries. they make marshal speakers, urbanears speakers, and the adidas brand. all the marshal speakers in tried were amazing especially the tufton. that thing can hit 35 hz easy. its really good. but the 3 ralis speakers iv tried all have bad cabinet resonance that sounds awful. the 4th one i received doesn't do that. At first i liked the bass but after hearing other speakers now i can say for sure its not very good. very bland and not very dynamic. the build quality is nice but thats about it. @@alanrossreviewsI mostly use my portable speakers well camping... around the fire, around the card table type of uses, meaning people will generally be talking around the speaker/music.
      From reviews ive watched it seems the stockwell 2 may be the perfect speaker for such purposes... would you generally agree that the stockwell 2 would be a great speaker to be used in outdoor environments where youd want a wide soundstage but not necessarily a to loud and over powering one?

    I've returned Marshal. It has terrible AUX implementation, it cuts off initial 0.5 seconds of sound making it impossible to jam with this speaker. Shame. Nice speaker otherwise. Why even include aux if they can't do it right?

    Interesting, why 76mm driver cannot overcome charge5's smaller driver. Not enough power?

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  3 года назад +3

      the stockwell goes deeper but the charge 5 has a faster sounding bass and its got a mid bass peak. and yeah power counts.

    Marshalls do tend to be very reverby, and all Marshall models dont sound loud at all until they start passing the 50% mark. Many people have posted this on marshall groups asking if they got a defective unit... 🤣🤣🤣 I live in a country where I consider Marshall Land, Thailand. Every second shop and cafe you see has a Marshall, I think 50% of every Marshall bluetooth speakers go to Thailand. Hahahahaha! Whenever I pass a shop and here that reverb, I know right away its a Marshall. The best selling models here are the Kilburn 2 (mid size), Emberton (mini size), Tufton (bass crazy), Woburn 2 (king dick) and Stanmore 2 for people that dont need a battery. Thais are truly crazy about Marshall. :) Oh and watch out for EXACT CLONES, many have reached these shores and are near impossible to detect visually unless you crack that bitch open.

      @@alanrossreviews I didnt like how they sounded initially but the sound has grown on me after living here for a few years. If were to ever buy a Marshall it would be the top of the line Woburn 2 but I would need to sell my left nut in the black market first. Bloody things are expensive as hell and for that price I could get way better sounding separates... interested in my left nut Alan? Will throw the right one in specially for you! 😆
