Commented this on the Middleton review but I may as well paste it here too. The Middletons driver setup is actually a little different than how you described it. The dual woofers actually fire out the sides while the tweeters and passive radiators shoot out the front and rear. Definitely an unusual setup for a speaker like this. Also, the Middleton can in fact be paired to any other Marshall speaker that supports “Stack Mode” (Emberton II and Willen) Multiple reviewers have demonstrated this working here on RUclips. Engadget also posted a review on their website at the end of January stating that they were able to pair two Middletons, an Emberton II and a Willen in a stack session. In order for it to work your phone should only be connected to one Marshall speaker at a time (the main speaker that the others can then sync to) from there you start a stack session in the Marshall app and then double press the Bluetooth button on any other stack enabled speaker you wish to add to the “stack”
Cool review and comparison! You can connect as many Emberton 2 and Willen as you want to Marshall Middleton. With or without the app. I have all these speakers and it works.
louder doesn't mean better bro, the Middleton is not that loud as extreme I would say. but it has def. better highs. and Middleton is have more full audio, that's why you think that charge 5 is louder
Bought the Charge 5 on sale, sounded so good I bought a second Charge 5 to pair in stereo. Sound separation and imaging great. But... The Xtreme 3 went on sale so I exchanged. Xtreme 3 did not compare to two Charge 5, so I exchanged again for same two Charge 5. Local Best Buy best way to find what works best. Back in my sound garden.
I have the same dilemma! I have a charge 5 and es looking to buy the Extreme 3 to upgrade. I see they just released the Extreme 4 so now I'm debating if getting the Extreme 4 or get another cheap Charge 5 to pair two in stereo. Thoughts?
The Marshall Middleton sounded good against the Sony speakers since there weren't that impressive to begin with. The sound signature is really warm to the point it starts to sound muffled in a way. The JBL'S doesn't sound that impressive in there stock EQ in person but in comparison to the Middleton they just sounded a lot more convincing. Honestly the only speaker I could recommend for the price is the Charge 5. It packs such a powerful punch in a small form factor while actually sounding good at the same time. The Xtreme 3 has always been a good speaker but 380$ in my experience it's a rip off at that point. The Partybox Encore,110 isn't that much more expensive and other speakers such as the Soundcore Motion Boom,Boom plus,Mifa wildbox,Tribit Stormbox Blast you can get 2 of thoes for the price of one Xtreme 3. And the Xtreme 3 still hass overall better build, looks and portability and has a better sound then most of them its not worth that much more. Also you say the Xtreme 3 UCB C Charge in and out can be used as a wired connection? I tried it and besides Chargeing my devices nothing came up. But in general I still found this video useful on gauging how the Marshall Middleton sounds👍
You can use the EXTREME 3 in A/C MODE. The speaker has to be fully charged before you attempt to do this,if not, it'll continue charging, with the charging battery light staying on. Once it's fully charged, & the battery charging light goes off, you're in A/C MODE. Hit the power button, & pair your phone to it. It really is worth doing. Especially, if you're inside. There's no sense in using your battery, when you don't have to. Don't worry about overcharging, that was an issue with the older models. There's a built in IC circuit that detects when the speaker has been fully charged. Once it is, it uses A/C power from the wall receptacle. In battery or portable mode, you're getting roughly 50-60 watts. In A/C MODE, you're getting the 100 watts that you paid for. I hope this helped.

I tested these very models this morning to replace the Charge 5 which I returned as battery duration was only 3.5 hours playing at 30-40% volume. I can't say that the Xtreme was the lounder of all three. But what I can definitely say is that the Marshal had a more balanced sound profile with clear and rich high's and low's. I don't think the reviewer was playing the Marshal at the sound level he claimed. In my testing, the Marshal sounded crispier and to my ears sounded even louder that the Xtreme. The only drawback is that, days before the end of '24 and they are yet to release an update to their app compatible to Android 14. Connecting it to my Android 14 phone was a lot tricky and it took me and the shop personnel nearly half hour to get it paired. Buit I'm seriously considering it as it's on offer for 219 euro.
Just tested them today. Marshal sound clearly best. With treble setting to 7. Why 3 here ? that is to lower the high frq without reason. And why test them on different sound levels, The number is less important than the pressure of the actual sound.
