before and after Feng Shui interior space planning transformation

  • I have been talking about Feng Shui theories, so let's try a practical example so you can really feel the effects of this. In Feng Shui it is not so much interior design, but more of logical space planning, but in doing so you usually get much nicer spaces. note that we did not change any furniture, or did any interior design, it is basically shifting furniture around. the effects are clear, where the lady now works much better, in fact she looks forward to working in her new dedicated spot and her sleeping area also feels more secure. do ask any questions if you have.

I wish she had had access to someone like Cliff to help her make the space even a little nicer than it was. She did her best, but everybody needs help sometimes. One thing to notice. It's unhealthy to have a monitor to the side of your sitting point. It's better to put it just in front of you. So your back wouldn't be always twisted, and you'll save it's health in long period.

Important ability point. Also, if I recall, it's not advisable to have computer monitor screens directly facing sunlight (that is, where sunlight [or a light source] will shine straight at the screen), as the glare will always be a problem. But perhaps there's a shield or something one can purchase & apply to screens to prevent that?

I thought the same. It achieves several things: allows cats to sit in warm sun and view out of window, which they like (though likely not much to look at in a high rise), it puts the cats closer to their human, it decreases startle factor vs being alongside door, it allows an enclosure for the cat boxes against two walls (plus a screen?), it allows the cats to see the comings and goings in the hall and into the room, and it decreases the visual of the litter boxes in line of sight as entering the room. The downside is it clutters the window view, so maybe a more appealing and less bulky cat tree design?

Purely from a practical point of view, it is not good to have window behind your desk when you are using your computer. The sunlight shines on the screen and makes it hard to see. This can cause eye strain and headaches.
The optimal position for a computer screen by a window is to have the screen at 90 degrees to the window. This reduces so much glare and makes it easier to work.

I think it looks great! However what I really can't wrap my brain around is the position of the desk in the command position. My desk faces a wall because I have three monitors and I absolutely hate seeing the back of the desk with all of the cords running everywhere. If I flipped my desk into the command position in my office I think I would visually hate it, and it seems like a hazard to trip in the middle of the room with the cords and stuff. Plus the wires will have to run on the floor past my chair to the outlets on the wall, which seems impractical. Do you have any advise for me in that regard? Thank you.

I have the same feeling about this. some suggestions here are useful but ignore the fact that the vantage from the room looking back towards the Desk is the backs of 2 or 3 Screens with their cords even if the cords are tidied it still looks horrendous. I don't want to put the desk facing towards the window as it will block the view that I bought the house for. and people outside looking up towards the window will see this ugly mess of screen backs. it's just tacky. There is nowhere else in my house to put my desk, there really isn't. Maybe I should take pictures and draw a scaled map of the floor plan and send it in... Frankly if I could move I would have another room in my house that I could make my office. Dreams....

  • @2463572

I would put the desk next to the right couch (from the door) using the window sill for the laptop because its hard to have the sun on the monitor and you could look out of the window while working. You can then put a board at the wall over the desk for the office stuff.

I'd close the backside of the desk. And maybe place a nice plant on the corner of the desk. To creat a bit more of a living room atmosphere.

This is a particular setting and it made sense to me right away but then I thought about how the bed usually should be against a wall so that there is security behind the head, right?

Should she put curtains on both walls with windows? Esp the windows to the kitchen? Also, where does she put her clothes?

Now no one can watch TV without hurting their necks! Perfect.
You also claim that moving her bed to the other wall would mean it's not so bright. But it's the same distance from the window with no obstruction of light except for BELOW the level of the couch.

@@j1407bmoon he said they don't really watch TV which is why it's fine for them, but it's not. Why maintain it as an object in the room if it's not being used? It also adds no ornamental value as it's not a decorative item, but a piece of technology intended for a specific use.
It's also directly in front of the view space of the desk, creating a different distraction or opportunities for distraction for the person working.
And if they do use it, but only on occasion... Congrats, your neck will only hurt sometimes!

He helped the mother have a more peaceful sleeping area and helped create separation between living and working from home in a special circumstance (it's both the living room and her bedroom). Creating that balance is a success for them even if you have a different opinion on whether they should own a TV if they don't plan on using it for long enough periods to strain their necks. Showcasing how to solve specific concerns for specific people really demonstrates how every house has its own needs but also can be served well with fengshui principles! If your primary activity in your living area is watching TV, it wouldn't work for you and that's okay. It wasn't your house or needs being helped.

But now she can't see anything on the TV or on the computer screen because of the reflection of the window. That is why I always try to turn my desk around the window and not sit with my back to it.

A tall Ikea wardrobe in back left corner for clothes would help, even if u have to move the lamp.
