  • In feng shui, there is Chi, which is energy that flows around you, and to understand this, there is the concept of the 5 animals. The animals each represent an aspect or direction which you would naturally tend towards.
These animals are the Tortoise, Bird, Dragon, Tiger and Snake.
I will explain what they mean to you, and how by combining them, you will be able to find a comfortable 'command position' in any room.

This is uncanny! As I'm watching this, I'm petting my white cat who happens to be to my right and west of me, with a wooden bookshelf to the left, and my desk facing south in the command position and a wall to the north behind me, of course. As I understand it my Chinese zodiac sign is a wood snake. That feels like everything lines up and I never even studied feng shui! I've heard of it, but never looked too much into it. Fascinating!

In Vastu Vidya, we face east, where Indra and Surya are, hence wideness, expansion, light and conscience. It is wherever we are looking at (so not necessarily real east).
The chair position you are describing is called The Throne, which we offer to the Commander (the King -- in Sanskrit, Ishvara), the heart (心) of the heart, the innermost part of each one of us.
Hope I can give you any insight, since you're so generous in sharing your own! 🙏😊
The idea of three mountains is quite insightful.
Let me digress a bit further.
The turtle is kurma. There is a cosmic turtle that holds mount Meru in the Ocean Churning event (when the devas and asuras join forces to retrieve amrtam, the immortality nectar). The whole idea is very alchemical.
But there is also makaram, the mythical creature (a dragon depicted as a crocodile, but also representing the Capricorn ♑ sign). It is Varuna's mount, presiding omnipresent deep darkness, the god of oceans. If Indra is ahead (east), Varuna is at our back (west). It is the strongest, "reptilian", protector. He is the protector of truth and has a lace to snare any lie. That is so because, in hindu thought, darkness is the ultimate source of life, the unending source of truth (satyam). The unconscious, from which comes being (sat).

My father passed away recently, and I'm quite young and have very much to learn, as I inherited most of our family issues.
Only now do I realise that his big director desk was in a perfect command position, and since I can't learn from him (and I don't think he realised how great he was at leadership, and, most shamefully, I didn't realise it either) - I'm learning it from you

Charming! This is a good explanation. What do you say about human representations in feng shui? Like in a portrait, painting, sculpture etc. Also curious as to if there's any difference if it's a random person versus an ancestor or some painting that happens to look strikingly like a family member, if that makes any difference at all.

    • @blaireshoe8738
      @blaireshoe8738 Год назад +5

Apologies for the long reply, but from my understanding from just this video:
Black Turtle - North (behind you) - Water (protection, fortification)
Red Bird/Phoenix - South (ahead of you, where the sun is) - Fire (foresight)
Green Dragon - East (to to your left, where the sun rises) - Wood (growth, prosperity)
White Tiger - West (to your right, where the sun sets) - Metal (malleable, transformative)
      Yellow Snake - Center/Self - Earth (balance)
The N/S/E/W directions aren't necessarily literal, but in the command position, you ideally want something solid behind you so you feel protected, the area ahead of you open enough to see your surroundings well, and the area to your sides to be assisting you in some way. From his explanation it sounds like the tiger should ideally be on your dominant side, so you can defend yourself, and the dragon on your non-dominant side so you can stay active with your dominant side while grabbing helpful things with your nondominant side, but that ideal is not completely necessary.
In terms of a desk and the space around it, to me (I could be wrong) this says the ideal position is your back against a solid wall, with a view of the rest of the room ahead of you, an escape route to your dominant side (my right in this case) and the desk's drawers/the L of an L-shaped desk/storage to your other side (my left) so you can easily grab things without taking your dominant hand off of whatever you're busy with. I suppose it also boils down to helping your dominant side being able to do active things while your non-dominant side is able to do passive things. You don't need a whole L-shaped desk to see these principles work- you keep your glass of water on the left side of your desk so that your left hand can grab your drink while your right hand can remain on the mouse so you can keep clicking/scrolling as needed, and keep things you would only use a dominant hand for on your right- mouse, pen, maybe a stapler, heavier office supplies you would want to make sure you were using your dominant hand for which conveniently double as projectiles to throw at intruders and thus make you feel a bit safer, lol.
Reality will often have you switch things up, especially when there are multiple pieces of furniture which should have their own command positions, or weird layouts. One of those command position pieces will generally take priority over the other, depending how you use them and what is important to you. These are not the end-all-be-all, of course- they are just guidelines that point you towards layouts that make you feel safe and comfortable.

1-word and then a period indicates that you are quite full of yourself saying that, but in fact it's not a pseudoscience because no one ever claimed it was a science nor anything like that. It's just an ancient framework used to create nice, comfortable, habitable spaces using a few principles that revolve around peace of mind and relies on tradition, ie experience and accumulated knowledge through generations. He never ever said "your money corner will magically make you win the lottery", more like "your money corner will remind you of money, and that will steer your thoughts and actions towards generating more wealth, which is required to generate said wealth without relying on pure luck".
