Dangerous & Useless Cube USB Charger

  • Another dangerous USB charger. This one is even worse than the previous one. Not only it is dangerous (can cause electric shock or fire), it is also completely useless. It can't supply the 1A current at 5V. At 0.5A the voltage already drops to 2.7V. The separation of primary and secondary side is only 0.5mm on the PCB. The transformer also looks dodgy and the tiny EMI capacitor (connecting primary to secondary) is only rated 1kV. It has no fuse, fusible resistor or inrush resistor. The boards have no apparent separation line, it is just one jungle of tracks, primary and secondary side riddled like a maze. There are two boards connected with a cable containing both primary and secondary side. Components on one board are touching components on the other board. This is definitely an electrocution device.

      @@matid8453 he said he unplugged the phone and then it exploded. What I think happened is when the phone was unplugged the voltage on the output probably went up a bit too high and caused some resistors or capacitors to burn and that put too much stress on the transformer causing the wires to melt causing short turns on the transformer causing way too much current to be drawn from mains, causing a short circuit. Sort of like a chain/runaway reaction that started with a too high of an output voltage.

    As far as I know, that fake charger is modelled after the Apple USB Power Adapter for the US and any other country that uses the type A and/or B sockets, however, the copycats in China, didn't know what the real European version of that looked like, so they just took the American design (even with the green dot, as those ones were recalled at one point in time) and changed the prongs on their counterfeit power adapters. Later, when Apple added their own logo to the back of their power adapters in that range, the copycats seemed to be afraid to copy that.

    There is older 0-class standard (the earthed Schuko is class 1) and this is perhaps possible to connect to the wall socket. The older type of this is not recessed and you can easily put this into it. Contrary to your system, our Live is on the right but is not mandatory. It is a good installation method. In your system the plug can’t be inserted but one way and then it is good to have the Live prescribed and mandatory.

    I saw a thing which is only 20x10x3mm and converts up to 250V to 5 or 12V. It outputs rough, unregulated voltage which needs some filtering (as far as I can tell), but it's very tiny and in theory can be used in small plug-pack type case to power things.
    It's a discontinued product from Rohm.
    You might be wondering why I'm bringing that up...
    Because that small thing with 4 pins (even without smoothing) outputs WAY better voltage than the charger you disassembled in this video.

    We call the German sockets Schuko sockets over here in Romania. In my opinion the French one is better , you get a more sturdy fit and plugs don't unplug as easily.

    • @Marcel_Germann
      @Marcel_Germann 6 лет назад +1

      The weakness of the french system is the pin. It can break very easily. And Schuko has the two bars to fit more sturdy. I never had any problems with plugs falling out of the sockets. I've got an outlet from the 1960s in one room, even this one don't make any problems.

    Korean sockets are very very similar to German (EU Type F) and they're also compatible, however they will not work correctly with the Chinese "EU" plug. They will cause arcing and excessive heat because the prongs are ever so slightly smaller, causing a bad connection.

    • @rwsrwsrwt
      @rwsrwsrwt 4 года назад

      The prongs of the Europlug should be 4.0 mm in diameter (the conductive tips only, the insulated shafts should be slightly thinner). The prongs of a type F plug are 4.8 mm in diameter, so the Europlug's prongs are smaller intentionally „by design“. However, they are not exactly parallel to each other but they converge slightly, so that they should make a safe connection with a type F socket anyway.
      If the contacts cause heat or arcing when fully inserted into the socket it is probably because the prongs aren't flexible enough (e.g. exactly parallel to each other) or because they are too short or used for appliances that draw more than 2.5 amps (the maximum a Europlug may be used for). The smaller diameter shouldn't be a problem.

    6:00 "Model No A1265" - that's trying to be an Apple charger! But the quality is far from Apple's standards... and of course you need to look in the transformer, as some transformers have the windings just wrapped over each other with no isolation.

    Excellent quality product LOL :)
    Im sure clive took one apart that looked too similar, also with the crap emi capacitor and lack of pcb isolation.
    Ahh you have a "Death adapter" as clive often uses, handy though.
    Your diagram looks also like the cheap hdd external psus, but very under rated.
    I think the under rating of the circuit saved the tiny silicon switching diode.
    Im amazed how close they copy the outside of the charger, shame about the crap inside.
    The two/three pin mains plugs are too different from each other, why didnt everyone use your type with a physical earth pin, that looks a much better design.
    We are lucky in the uk, we have a 3 pin plug that no one outside the uk wants to use LOL :-D.

    • @DiodeGoneWild
      @DiodeGoneWild  7 лет назад +7

      Yes, they copy the appearance, not the circuitry.
      I also think that our E socket with ground pin is better than the F socket with the two contacts. It is polarised, so it keeps Live and Neutral in the same position. Single-pole switches can then always switch Live for safety.
      But seems that EU decided to develop universal plug, instead of unifying the sockets. But anyway, the advantage of both sockets is that you can use small flat plug for low power appliances (up to 2.5A / 500W). In UK, even the smallest appliances have to have a giant plug with dummy plastic pin to open the shutters and a fuse inside. But on the other hand, the UK one seems to be one of the safest ever.

      DiodeGoneWild nebudem Ti odpovedať anglicky, ale keď je spotrebič triedy 2 s jednopólovým vypínačom, ako tam zaručíš vypínanie fázy? A ešte k tomu väčšina spotrebičov tr. 1 má aj tak dvojpólové vypínače. A rovnako aj predlžovačky. Jedine prepäťové ochrany zvyknú mať 1P spínač ale ak sú robené pre iný trh ako ČR/SR (kľudne aj pre FR pretože pôvodná FR norma z ktorej čerpalo ČSR udávala fázu vpravo) to budú mať "prehodené" už na FLEXO šnúre a u nás budú vypínať nulák. Čo bez dodatočnej úpravy nijak nespravíš. Každopádne pre akýkoľvek spotrebič by to malo byť jedno. On nevidí čo je fáza, iba to že je v zdroji striedavého napätia a teda je jedno ktorý pól sa odpojí...

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 6 лет назад +2

      It is polarised? No, it WOULD HAVE BEEN polarised if France decided 70 years ago which way around the pins go. But they didn't, so toss a coin. They have standardised it recently, but the standard will apply to new equipment but will not retroactively apply to all the old wall sockets. And even when a standard exists, with no way to enforce it, what is it worth? I have lived in a newly built house in Germany where all the electrics was INSANE and there was an electrical fire in the wall every few months, and the garage door and the mounting screws of some sockets went live, and you couldn't even sue anybody because the company that built the damn thing had a habit of going out of business and re-establishing itself anew, so what are the odds that the electrician hasn't flipped the wires in an average Czech or especially Polish home? UK is pretty good at enforcing its standards, but then it would pretty much burn down if it didn't, because they have ring house wiring absurdity, where a breaker just won't do anything sensible a lot of the time, which is why every single piece of wire needs to have a fuse in it.

    • @edgarkoterle
      @edgarkoterle 6 лет назад

      "Polarization" in AC circuits doesn't exist. "Live" and "neutral" mean only potential difference (voltage) between each of them towards to (physical) ground - earth. It doesn't affect the functionality of the connected devices.
