- Today, let's take a look at another dodgy USB charger. This time it's a cube with 2 USB ports, rated 2.1A (for iPad) and 1.0A (for other devices). The switching power supply is supposed to be 5V 3100mA, but this is far from reality. Also the safety of it is quite questionable. It may cause a fire or an electric shock.

Ive said it before but no one else on youtube explains switching power supplies this clearly
Agreed
I agree. He had a really good 2 part video a while back that is just fantastic. Really simple easy to understand explanation.
hey diodegonewild can you plz make a video about your homemade devices
@MA4DI -
YES , it would be interesting how diodegonewild build his stuff
Yes, definitely
@@Killerspieler0815 he has so many homemade devices he should share them with us so we can make them too like the ESR tester i am rely interested in it
@MA4DI -
YES , again
- And it doesn't explode, which is a good sign! XD
Very robust transformer. They have put 2 turns of isolating tape on the windings in stead of just one. 👍
The ultra cheap transformers have absolutely no mains isolation in them, except the lacquer on the wires (0.05 or 0.005mm thick!). Be grateful for the isolation that you can get. :)
I would like to see some video providing detail on magnetics (coils, transformers), i.e. why use air gaps, dynamic air gaps etc.
Yes, I would too. I would like to know more about how an air gap effects the working of an inductor, and how saturation is used in an inductor.
air gaps are used in transformer to prevent the core from magnetic saturation
Your channel is the greatest, I love your videos. This dodgy USB charger needs more saaaalt
needs more saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalt XD
More salt hahahaaha actually that water heater video where salt is poured in the container..
@@s40s06 I think "even more saaaaalt" has evolved into a local meme.
Love the cat :-D. Also thanks for always reversing the schematics and talking so much about them. There is so much to learn!
I love to learn about switching circuit with you as teacher. You explain that very clearly. Many thanks, I subscribed to the channel.
I can't thank you enough for all the things i've learned from your channel and your website. Flyback power supplies were some engineering sorcery to me before i found your channel, even though i'm studiying electrical engineering for 4 years now. I'm actually planing on designing my own one for audio amplifiers and lithium chargers. It would be awesome if you could do a video on designing one from your website. Will definately consider supporting you via patreon. Keep it up with great content bro.
That pc psu must be good, cant wait till u upload it. Great video mate!!
Always excellent, informative tutorials with a hint of humour, brilliant.
Awesome video! keep them going, I really look forward to see that atx PSU open.
I like the clean schematic
It is rare talent ❤️
Needs so much patience and multimeter continuity
Great video, you have really helped me understand the principle operation of power supplies. thanks
Superb demo and lecture ! Thank you!
Such a informative video. Thank you so much for sharing this.
I like your videos a lot, with schematics, explanation and your cat's contribution 🙂
Thanks for this forensic teardown and explanation. My employer purchases similar cheap very dodgey 5V chargers for staff who lose their company issued mobile. I can show now this is a risk to the equipment but more seriously one to his valuable staff and why the OEM charger is the only option even though they cost more.
Always loves your videos
Thank you for your very interesting videos, good work and explanations! And I'm a big fan of your Czech-accented English speaking! ;)
Hey, can you make vadio on all type of power supply like flyback, half bridge, full bridge, push pull and their specifications.
Because no one can't explain power supply clearly then you one RUclips
You are the master of power supply
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Yup, I agree.
*DIOOODDDEEE!!!* 😂
I love his pronunciation !
I like these series like you
TILL NOW,YOUR CAT MUST HAVE BECOME A MASTER IN ELECTRONICS BY WATCHING YOU🔥👍😂🤣
Thank you for spot lighting this piece. .
It isn't nearly as dodgy as I expected! I'd like to see also some ripple output measurements at different loads. Thanks for great video!
110 000 odběratelů jak vidim tak se ti daří, jen tak dál :)
Hi! Love your videos!
Your drawn schematics are legendary.
Another excellent break down 👍😀
Useful video 👍
Hooray! A new ‘Are you Kiddin’ me!’ video 😁
Thanks for your informative video
I wish I could go to the same school of electronics as you. Brilliant video.
The funny part is that I didn't go to any school of electronics ...
What?! No way! How did you obtain this vast knowledge about electronics
This is great. It's like watching bigclive with a Czech accent. Excuse me while I binge-watch the rest of your vids.
I want to a story about a well known make of dry cabinets that often failed.
can you explain how to control the current output in SMPS using the UC3844 pls
I think load regulation should be covered in the datasheet
I think load regulation should be covered in the datasheet
I want to see that compuer power suply in next video, can you make video about it? Btw nice video as always.
Yes i power up a USB stereo speakers conected to laptop with similar 5v power supply. The blue cap was shorted ,probably via ground loop. And the laptop exploded,,the wire melted.
excellent as usual
I love this blogs. It teach me english and electronics. Thank you! Im from Poland 😀
Diodegonewild is so retro he still uses equipment that was made in a country that doesn't even exist any more ;)
Can't wait to see inside of the huge computer power supply...
We luv your fire extinguisher 05:30 .
How can one donate you devices to make a video with mate?
What device would you like to donate? Contact me at danyk@centrum.cz
i love when he said "That's quite doggy".
hello bro my charger Makes Weird Noise "zzzzzz", can we eliminate it? where the sound came from
Another good video and product "review" :)
Chinese people: Let's make cheap chargers that only work with our adapters!
Dodgy chinesium things are made for birth control. China has an overpopulation problem
would you do a cheap QC3.0 / PD charger teardown in the future?
What an adorable cat!
The primary current sense resistor is not just for short circuit protection. It may be for current mode control (simple compensation network). This allows for pulse by pulse current limiting . The control has actually two loops - innermost current control loop, terminating the on state by reaching a current target, defined by the outermost voltage control loop error amplifier, comparing the voltage feedback with internal reference.
this cat really likes electronics 👍😄😳
Is there any charger that really has the 3a ?
Some of those switching chips incorporate a built in snubber, using a high voltage avalanche clamp to limit the turn off voltage of the power switch. As they are generally low power, this does not increase power dissipation in the chip too much, but saves on external component cost.
Hye bro please make some video on tec peltier Moodle. Is it suck compare to other cooling module like freon gas air conditioner
So, you told that flyback topology uses ferrite core with air gap.
But, what will happen if I use a core with air gap in half bridge or push-pull topology?
It will probably still work, but there will be much more of inductive current, causing more losses in the switching transistors. The air gap reduces the inductance of the windings.
Ok, so it will be better not to use that core in half bridge topology SMPS. Thank you for the response.
I would then build a flyback power supply (1000w).
i cant wait for that computer power supply! BRING IT ON!!
Yess....Two USB port charger teardown.
You have same 1 port charger like mine is single port and circuitry looks same.
Good Analysis
I only watch your videos for the cats. Everything else is a bonus. :-)
Hi! How I can connect with you?
Good job friend, you are the best professor with an excellent explanation!
Hello to the F.B.I cat hhh
Hahaha beer fire extinguisher!!!
Some bridge rectifier chip can also have the fuse feature.
Do you move the cat in on purpose?
For sure he did.
Have you ever seen a charger that exploded? Believe me, it's not nice :D loud bang, melted plastic and terrible smell in the whole house
Surprisingly, I don't. Cats naturally tend to assist people while they work. They don't want to miss the fun :). And of course, the cardboard bench feels warmer than other surfaces. Cats always look for warm spots. White paper and other white areas trick cats into thinking that sun is shining there. That's why the cat always wants to sit on the schematics.
Could you make tutorial how to design a flyback SMPS?
Is there any usb charger that has a fuse in it?
Every proper one has a fuse or a fusible resistor in it.
you are safety concious, like me.....its good, keep it up
be carefull with that fire extinguisher man
Hey dan , where can i donate you a quite dodgy charger?
Nice Dan
Often the current value is incorrect on these devices.
Just ask the cat, it's a sweetheart.
To test the dodgy charger I have to use this dodgy adapter :) 1:47
*dodginess intensifies*
0:06 I thought you are going to take a look at your cat 😂😁
Hmm very under rated, 1 Amp total.
Even your loverly cat didn't think much of it lol.
They always lie through there teeth about what a device can do :-(.
Pity they didn't include an opto coupler :-(
What you've expected from a device that costs 1 or 2 $ £ € or whatever... That's the price of the copper windings :D
gumpi5
Yes you are right there lol, the copper is likely the most expensive part.
I would rather have a decent device that costs more and lasts.
I use the chargers that were supplied with the original phone/tablet, they are normally quite decent.
I really don't like the idea of building chargers in to mains wall sockets, but people go mad for them, ill stay old fashoned lol.
That's a spiral of lies. Once the competition starts lying, They have to lie as well. Once the competition lies even more, they also have to lie even more to keep up. The absence of an optocoupler is definitely not the worst problem. Even some branded chargers have none.
... their teeth ...
Nick B, Very true, iv'''e nooover boon god at spooling Nuck lol.
Shame you didn't make an interesting comment, just picking fault with my imperfect spelling, shame :-(
Poland confirms mains plug type :)
Crazy... It says 1A because it's a fake Apple charger, except it's the American design for iPhones. In Europe, we have a flat one with the little triangles at the side so it would fit perfect in a 2-prong European outlet (like some extension cords / power strips have). They just put European prongs on it, but the cube design is for the Japanese / American / Canedian market. Still incredibly dangerous. Unbelievable they can sleep at night knowing they made / sold this. A woman once got electrocuted when picking up her iPhone (back when they were made from aluminium).
Just love your beautiful cat 🐺
thanks a lot man we appreciate it very much 🌺🌺 epic teacher
always good videos 10q.
At first I found your singing (intonation) annoying but you really do explain things very clearly. I kind of like your singing now. Thumbs up, Subscribed.
I'm missing the DODGY! stamp at the end of the video ;)
This transformer look much better in most cheapo USB adaptor.. by the way what is doji?
What is flyback polarity?
That's the polarity of the voltage on the windings when the transistor is off :). The opposite of the forward polarity.
@@DiodeGoneWild thanks for information.
Keep making videos, I love your talking style.
Love from India 😍
Good. Keep it that way.
I have ones exactly the same, and it was blown up suddenly!
It probably won't fit in a Schuko socket either, at least not without damaging the case of the "charger" with the ground contacts.
european outlets are weird but they are the second safest outlet and plug
ttv. btw weird? They are clean looking and modern wdym lol
Why second safest?
because the contacts are not isolated
@@adamoneilwilliams7308 What do you mean? There is plastic on the half of the contacts. (Maybe I understood something wrong English is not my first language).
And which are first?
I think it's time to compare similar PRICE point products from different countries instead of just looking at cheap Chinese products. I don't think most people need a lot of proofs for "you get what you pay for". It would be good to see "you get MORE than what you paid for".
Please more!
I want to see that computer PSU!
I like ur cat 🐈
In belgium we also use the exact same type of socket ;)
Let's make a drink game. Drink every time he says "dodgy"
Can you test if cellphone chargers that connect to the car are dangerous for the phone?
Ah the old-school USSR electronics tools.
this dodgy usb chargeeeeeerrrrrr
cat want her charger back
As weller would say "The transformer *IS* the fuse"
