Why are you complaining about the partsforming? That feels like your just complaining about something understandable to allow hot rod to be seperate from rodimus. And god you are overcomplaining about the transformation
no, i'm complaining that hasbro isn't trying as hard anymore. they keep charging an arm and a leg for legit TF toys so as a loyal patron of hasbro (10 years now) i believe i have a right to an opinion about how they do things and not just swallow everything they shell out in blind faith
chefatron I agree but you were constantly complaining during the transformation which made it tedious and annoying, and so what if the arms partsform you get a rodimus in turn. The biggest flaw is the arm connections of rodimus prime which was a reasonable complaint but a lot of other stuff felt like you were just whining
Jetfire48 If he doesn’t like it or there is an issue and he’s not happy with it then he’s got a right to complain, just as I would. We pay good money for these things and they should be right. There is such a thing as a lazy design. Trust me, I’ve worked in design labs before and sometimes it’s just down to a lack of effort on the designers part. We must complain so they can evolve and improve.
Man. I really wanted to see the product, not listen to a dude complain so much. Transformation really doesn't seem THAT bad or complicated. Not an enjoyable review to watch at all.

i did. i still feel the same. in fact i've been trying to sell it at 20% less than the price i got it for and no one wants to buy it. this figure is that bad. it's currently warming the shelves out here.
J A Hasbro has produced some great figures in the past that rival 3p offerings. Hasbro has the resources to make a comparable toy at a lower cost than say MMC or Maketoys but they don't.
Zxz 12 Maybe I'm a bit more lenient on them than you. I would say many of the early CHUG figures were great (though many were not) 1 on 1 comparisons delicate warrior and Azalea/gen Arcee, mech ideas/TR jumpstarters, Mania King/TR Galvatron, TW Hegemon/ CW Megs, FP CC/CW Magnus, FP headmasters/gen Brainstorm, TR Chromedome and Wierdwolf, TFC Hercules and Uranos/CW Devy and Superion, KFC Mugen/ TR Perceptor. Just a few off the top of my head and only my opinion. Some of these examples I prefer the 3p others the hasbro, but I feel they are comperable based on my experiences with said figures.
Everyone has a right to their own opinion. But i love this toy. All those points you made are just minor gripes and nit picking in my opinion. He is a fantastic toy.
My biggest problem with any of the new Transformers (other than the issue that they all look like cheap bootleg toys to me) is the crap quality of the wheels. The snap-fit thing is awful. They would look 100 times better with pinned-on wheels. The Winnebago comment is dead-on- that’s exactly what the Rodimus Prime “truck” mode always looked like.
This was really the only figure I really wanted from this line so far. I'll be honest, your review made it sound like it's crap, when I don't think it's that bad. The big issue for me was the color difference showing so much where the arms connect to Hot Rods legs. The Takara/Tomy version will probably fix that and maybe even do some tweaks to the design. I've seen you do some good reviews, but I felt like you were more interested in bashing this figure than reviewing it. You might want to watch some of Emgo and Peaugh's reviews before you do another one.
i wasn't biased with this figure. i was just being honest. if you can't take my honesty then i'm sorry. in fact, i was actually looking forward to this figure more than the OP figure since this was my first genuine Rodimus Prime figure. i think it's unfair that you think i'm just out there to bash figures like this. just look at my track record. i praise a ton of hasbro stuff that most reviewers bash. comments like yours are what made me stop replying to comments. thanks for your support but i really thought your comment was unfair.

Bought it for half off at a Walmart before. At $15 it's perfectly fine. Wouldn't spend the original $40-60 it ran for though. Nice addition to have if your collector of specific lines of series. Overall, thanks for the vid, helped me transform it back into vehicle mode so I could do some snapshots!

For the longest time I didn't like the way this figure looked but just recently I decided to pick him up. This was a reaction to the news of the upcoming Commander Class Rodimus Prime. I figured it is going to be very expensive to pick up and this seems more affordable. Despite the shoulders the overall look has grown on me and I think the vehicle mode looks good. Also, I've watched this review multiple times over a period of time and it is always entertaining to hear your rant and honest opinions. Continue being honest with yourself and not mind what other people think.

You've complained so freakin much it started to get irritating. If it's such a chore to transform it maybe you should stick to 1 step changers. I get your frustration with the figure, but it is really not that bad. You sounded like an 80 y.o grumpy old man trying to take a selfie with his iphone X that he clearly doesn't understand. The transformation actually worked while you were complaining how it doesn't. So yeah a cool toy that could have been done so much better. I've liked your optimus prime review better. Stick to that style in my opinion.

Yeah the idea was great. G1 representations of Primes with their original non-Prime forms built in too! If they pulled that off well they could have some of the coolest TF figures ever, but they didn't quite pull it off.
I got the Power of the Primes Rodimus Prime because I never had Rodimus Prime before, just Hot Rod. I thought this would be my answer to not having the original G1 80's Rodimus Prime figure or the Masterpiece one. I'm glad you demonstrated the transformation because I'm not transforming mine as I'll leave Rodimus Prime as he is. As for Power of the Primes version of Hot Rod not bad, but I like my original G1 Hot Rod from the 80's.

In my opinion this by far is the worse review of this figure I've seen. Granted these figures are secretly catered to the adults, because most of the kids aren't really familiar with the characters unless their parents have familiarized them with these characters, but this is just complaining and wining in this review to me. I was expecting to see good points and all I get is emotional distraught and frustration. This is a Hasbro design, all of them are mediocre compared to third party or Takara MP

What I think I'll do, if ever I buy this figure, is use the Hot Rod as the Rodimus Prime and the TR Hot Rod as my Hot Rod, supposing I can switch the head for the Rodimus Prime Head from the Seige on Cybertron box set. Plus, It would have been nice to have compared the size with CW Ultra Magnus instead of the Master Piece, just my opinion. The parts forming part was one of the bad side of this figure, much like the shell forming in the Optimus Prime. Nice review.
I have this guy and Optimus and I'll be odd one for saying I prefer this figure over the Evolution Optimus. But damn that Orion Pax figure is gorgeous, but as for me, since I'm a Hot Rod fan, and I kind of have a shrine for him lol, this is an amazing figure for me. But at the end of the day opinions are just opinions and I respect your view.
I have the Rodimus Cron version and he looks great he has his flaws but i love the way he looks and for the hands i unfold the silver parts down and he looks like he has holsters he look good that way maybe is the black paint on him and the decos that make him look good
I’ll still get it for his large combined mode and car and trailer form. I keep passing him up at target that I’m afraid I’ll get to late to pick him up.
To be fair Hot Rod is supposed to piss you off, he is the Prime slayer after all. I've still not forgiven him for getting Optimus killed. But yeah good review man thank you for going through this and letting us know so we don't and shouldn't have to.
Interesting. I think that the biggest problem here is - just like with MP09 - they shoehorned a craptastic Rodimus Prime mode into an otherwise pretty cool Hot Rod mode. And you can tell they drew some inspiration from MP09: Matrix in his chest (that unlike MP09, is the same size as the other ones), the two Hot Rod photon lasers combining into Rodimus's photon eliminator cannon (which could've been implemented way better, though), slotting in the Hot Rod car into the Rodimus trailer for the full space Winnebago (even the Fansproject Protector did this, and all of them are better than the G1 toy's handling), etc. And both Hot Rod & Rodimus modes have better, more stable feet than the Orion Pax & Optimus mold. (On the flip side, I will admit that Hot Rod & Orion could BOTH use ankle tilts...that's something neither of'em have (nor does Optimus Primal) but the larger bodies do have, which is baffling). What some folks seem to do - myself included - is to use the Titans Return Hot Rod *AS* Hot Rod, use the PotP Hot Rod as Rodimus (and he fits nicely with Generations Springer, Generations Sandstorm, TR Galvatron, etc.), and use the combined Rodimus mode as a Super form. I guess that kinda works; the PotP Hot Rod is JUST taller enough than TR Hot Rod that it can work as (a smaller midgety Voyager) Rodimus. At least the Evolution gimmick here doesn't completely suck like it does with Optimus Primal to Optimal Optimus...
finally having this paint scheme variation in hand (I bought the SG version first), I really don't understand the extreme reaction when you reviewed the figure. it really isn't THAT bad. sorry if it's not up to masterpiece standards, but it's build quite well for the price. Most people aren't admitting to this, but it's the backpack that's upsetting people. It's really an ugly shape, but if it folded up better, like into a smaller square, this figure would have been phenomenal.
Great review!!! I've waiting all these years for an official Rodimus Prime, and this is what Hasbro gives us...smh!!! I just wanted the Hot Rod figure to stand in as Rodimus Prime and just remove the stickers, but that windshield hanging down...OMG!!! I'm starting to see the 3rd parties like Open and Play make some really nice figures at less cost, so I might have to hold out a little longer to get a voyager-class Rodimus Prime.
If i want that mold i think i wait on Unicronus prime, think the black looks better and Unicronus i dont have a better version of. Also it looks better in black and purple.
Honestly I use the Hotrod as my Rodimus. Titans Return/Legends is my Hot Rod. I dont bother with the actual Rodimus upgrade pieces. I feel like Hotrod is big enough to fill that void. Plus leader class always felt too tall for me
Jesus christ, whatever the PoP Optimus Prime was lacking (messy vehicle mode on Irion Pax, no wrist joints, hollow gun, trailer looks incomplete, gappy feet) and did well (no fake chest, better transformation system, less kibbles in robot modes, more secured and easier connection when combining Irion on Prime's body), this version of Rodimus does exactly the other way around.
Just like the Super Ginrai, I am planning on ordering Evolution Optimus Prime and Rodimus Prime, I can live with those things, after all, I suffer with God Ginrai's feet c; And mostly, is more cheaper to get MP Hot Rod ( although I can buy him next december c; )
The figure looks semi-good but idk all I know is I do want (no matter how bad) rodimus unicronus. Anyways not so good review just so many irritating complains and I feel I say for all of us, we wish this was a better figure
I'm soooo disappointed by this figure. I'll be picking up the OP one as it's good enough to do as a MP in my opinion as I can forgive the truck mode for that amazing bot mode. But rodimus fails on BOTH counts. The shoulders are bad enough but when I saw the part's forming that was it. I appreciate the effort but I don't see how he got passed development stage at hasbro. I'll opt for the masterpiece instead. Thanks for the video. Keep em up. :)
How could they make this line of rodimus a leader class figure,but one series back they came out with galvatron but made him a voyage class figure in the titans returns.
i laugh when you open the matrix cavity and saw hot rod in sort of squat position hahahha , its like..hot rod: being rodimus prime is hard i need to do yoga / squat 24/7 just to be a prime leader hahaha XD
One would think that since it's a parts-former, this figure would at least look good in Rodimus Prime robot mode. The horrible backpack maybe I could overlook, but I cannot ignore those joints/thighs attaching the shoulders to the torso. Although, I do like the look of both vehicle modes. Thumbs up as always for Chefatron, not so much for the figure itself.
Half decent review, if you can make it past the awws and cmons and sighs of frustration. I went in reverse here and bought the model first, and just came here to watch him fumble with it so I could learn from his mistakes. I'll do the same for the rest of the PotP line vids you make. I'm with you on the majority of your complaints about this one. I think this is another case like the Power of the Primes Grimlock where their major screw up was the adherence to the gimmick. If they had just gone with a Rodimus the turned into his classic Truck/Winnebago mode and had a spot for they matrix I think it would've been a slam dunk. But it seems like this is a repear of all there mistakes they made with Masterpiece Hotrod/Rodimus Prime
Way to many tight fitting joints on this one, mine has stress points on it after one transform :( I couldn't get the arms to go into his trailer without a hell of a lot of force.
Wow.......I can't believe that I'm digging the T.R. Hot Rod better!! Looks like I'm gonna be passing on most of these so far. Will b getting Optimus and the legends, plus the pretender figs, but so far, everything else is bumming me out...

Like if one figure is a 6.5 and another is a 7.5, is that kind of an arbitrary number based on your initial response, or do you actually give it points for different aspects and then average the score?
Still getting this. I've been waiting for over a decade for a Hot Rod toy that transforms into Rodimus prime that also happens to go from a deluxe-ish size to a masterpiece-ish size and flaws be damed this is that figure! I would love to own the Fansproject protector armor but the non-clear version is either really not easy to find or too expensive for my wallet when i happen to find it. And as for the MP version that does both H.R and R.P and has the trailer in the same toy..... just impossible. Far too expensive( last one i found was 400$ US before tax, conversion and shipping, 5 years ago and i live in Canada so yeah). I haven't looked since and I cringe at what Ebay's prices would be. And to end this micro rant it SERIOUSLY took Hasbro and Takara THIS LONG to make a version of this?(outside of the MP version). And they still haven't done an Ultra Magnus whose cab transforms into his non--powered mode and combines with his trailer. Thank F for Fansproject and Perfect Effect.
If they found a way to rotate those thighs and plug the arms into the opposite side he could have used his knees as shoulder joints. This new line doesn't impress me at all.
I think it looks fine the kibble doesn’t bother me at all frome when I saw it and now the leg arms are okay but hot rod is one of my favorites so idk when I get this I will use it as hot rod because as I said he one of my favorites
Don't see the problem, the transforming is a bit of work, but you still get a fairly decent Hot Rod/Rodimus.

Hot Rod is only supposed to turn into a car. The trailer separating and becoming armor parts for Rodimus Prime is exactly how it should be.
Despite the shoulders, Rodimus Prime looks real good. Closest thing to a Masterpiece Rodimus Prime.

The Takra Tomy version is the exact same version. Kinda dissapointed but im waiting for the Unicronus version.

You've complained so freakin much it started to get irritating. If it's such a chore to transform it maybe you should stick to 1 step changers. I get your frustration with the figure, but it is really not that bad. You sounded like an 80 y.o grumpy old man trying to take a selfie with his iphone X that he clearly doesn't understand. The transformation actually worked while you were complaining how it doesn't. So yeah a cool toy that could have been done so much better. I've liked your optimus prime review better. Stick to that style in my opinion.

It's not a matter of "style" of reviewing, one was positive while this isn't because the former has a better engineering and less compromised parts.
Yeah the idea was great. G1 representations of Primes with their original non-Prime forms built in too! If they pulled that off well they could have some of the coolest TF figures ever, but they didn't quite pull it off.
I got the Power of the Primes Rodimus Prime because I never had Rodimus Prime before, just Hot Rod. I thought this would be my answer to not having the original G1 80's Rodimus Prime figure or the Masterpiece one. I'm glad you demonstrated the transformation because I'm not transforming mine as I'll leave Rodimus Prime as he is. As for Power of the Primes version of Hot Rod not bad, but I like my original G1 Hot Rod from the 80's.

In my opinion this by far is the worse review of this figure I've seen. Granted these figures are secretly catered to the adults, because most of the kids aren't really familiar with the characters unless their parents have familiarized them with these characters, but this is just complaining and wining in this review to me. I was expecting to see good points and all I get is emotional distraught and frustration. This is a Hasbro design, all of them are mediocre compared to third party or Takara MP

What I think I'll do, if ever I buy this figure, is use the Hot Rod as the Rodimus Prime and the TR Hot Rod as my Hot Rod, supposing I can switch the head for the Rodimus Prime Head from the Seige on Cybertron box set. Plus, It would have been nice to have compared the size with CW Ultra Magnus instead of the Master Piece, just my opinion. The parts forming part was one of the bad side of this figure, much like the shell forming in the Optimus Prime. Nice review.

Just opened this figure today I hate the leg part transforming hot rod annoying other than that it's a nice edition to the collection
I have this guy and Optimus and I'll be odd one for saying I prefer this figure over the Evolution Optimus. But damn that Orion Pax figure is gorgeous, but as for me, since I'm a Hot Rod fan, and I kind of have a shrine for him lol, this is an amazing figure for me.
But at the end of the day opinions are just opinions and I respect your view.
I have the Rodimus Cron version and he looks great he has his flaws but i love the way he looks and for the hands i unfold the silver parts down and he looks like he has holsters he look good that way maybe is the black paint on him and the decos that make him look good

To be fair Hot Rod is supposed to piss you off, he is the Prime slayer after all. I've still not forgiven him for getting Optimus killed. But yeah good review man thank you for going through this and letting us know so we don't and shouldn't have to.

Why couldn't Hasbro just sell the trailer extra to go with the 15 dollar hot rod. It would be cheaper and easier.
Interesting. I think that the biggest problem here is - just like with MP09 - they shoehorned a craptastic Rodimus Prime mode into an otherwise pretty cool Hot Rod mode. And you can tell they drew some inspiration from MP09: Matrix in his chest (that unlike MP09, is the same size as the other ones), the two Hot Rod photon lasers combining into Rodimus's photon eliminator cannon (which could've been implemented way better, though), slotting in the Hot Rod car into the Rodimus trailer for the full space Winnebago (even the Fansproject Protector did this, and all of them are better than the G1 toy's handling), etc.
And both Hot Rod & Rodimus modes have better, more stable feet than the Orion Pax & Optimus mold. (On the flip side, I will admit that Hot Rod & Orion could BOTH use ankle tilts...that's something neither of'em have (nor does Optimus Primal) but the larger bodies do have, which is baffling).
What some folks seem to do - myself included - is to use the Titans Return Hot Rod *AS* Hot Rod, use the PotP Hot Rod as Rodimus (and he fits nicely with Generations Springer, Generations Sandstorm, TR Galvatron, etc.), and use the combined Rodimus mode as a Super form. I guess that kinda works; the PotP Hot Rod is JUST taller enough than TR Hot Rod that it can work as (a smaller midgety Voyager) Rodimus.
At least the Evolution gimmick here doesn't completely suck like it does with Optimus Primal to Optimal Optimus...
finally having this paint scheme variation in hand (I bought the SG version first), I really don't understand the extreme reaction when you reviewed the figure. it really isn't THAT bad. sorry if it's not up to masterpiece standards, but it's build quite well for the price. Most people aren't admitting to this, but it's the backpack that's upsetting people. It's really an ugly shape, but if it folded up better, like into a smaller square, this figure would have been phenomenal.
I do admit it looks a bit like a space garbage truck though :)

Great review!!! I've waiting all these years for an official Rodimus Prime, and this is what Hasbro gives us...smh!!! I just wanted the Hot Rod figure to stand in as Rodimus Prime and just remove the stickers, but that windshield hanging down...OMG!!! I'm starting to see the 3rd parties like Open and Play make some really nice figures at less cost, so I might have to hold out a little longer to get a voyager-class Rodimus Prime.

Honestly I use the Hotrod as my Rodimus. Titans Return/Legends is my Hot Rod. I dont bother with the actual Rodimus upgrade pieces. I feel like Hotrod is big enough to fill that void. Plus leader class always felt too tall for me

Jesus christ, whatever the PoP Optimus Prime was lacking (messy vehicle mode on Irion Pax, no wrist joints, hollow gun, trailer looks incomplete, gappy feet) and did well (no fake chest, better transformation system, less kibbles in robot modes, more secured and easier connection when combining Irion on Prime's body), this version of Rodimus does exactly the other way around.

The figure looks semi-good but idk all I know is I do want (no matter how bad) rodimus unicronus. Anyways not so good review just so many irritating complains and I feel I say for all of us, we wish this was a better figure
I'm soooo disappointed by this figure. I'll be picking up the OP one as it's good enough to do as a MP in my opinion as I can forgive the truck mode for that amazing bot mode. But rodimus fails on BOTH counts. The shoulders are bad enough but when I saw the part's forming that was it. I appreciate the effort but I don't see how he got passed development stage at hasbro. I'll opt for the masterpiece instead. Thanks for the video. Keep em up. :)

One would think that since it's a parts-former, this figure would at least look good in Rodimus Prime robot mode. The horrible backpack maybe I could overlook, but I cannot ignore those joints/thighs attaching the shoulders to the torso. Although, I do like the look of both vehicle modes. Thumbs up as always for Chefatron, not so much for the figure itself.

I'm with you on the majority of your complaints about this one. I think this is another case like the Power of the Primes Grimlock where their major screw up was the adherence to the gimmick. If they had just gone with a Rodimus the turned into his classic Truck/Winnebago mode and had a spot for they matrix I think it would've been a slam dunk. But it seems like this is a repear of all there mistakes they made with Masterpiece Hotrod/Rodimus Prime

Way to many tight fitting joints on this one, mine has stress points on it after one transform :( I couldn't get the arms to go into his trailer without a hell of a lot of force.

Like if one figure is a 6.5 and another is a 7.5, is that kind of an arbitrary number based on your initial response, or do you actually give it points for different aspects and then average the score?

Still getting this. I've been waiting for over a decade for a Hot Rod toy that transforms into Rodimus prime that also happens to go from a deluxe-ish size to a masterpiece-ish size and flaws be damed this is that figure!
I would love to own the Fansproject protector armor but the non-clear version is either really not easy to find or too expensive for my wallet when i happen to find it.
And as for the MP version that does both H.R and R.P and has the trailer in the same toy..... just impossible. Far too expensive( last one i found was 400$ US before tax, conversion and shipping, 5 years ago and i live in Canada so yeah). I haven't looked since and I cringe at what Ebay's prices would be.
And to end this micro rant it SERIOUSLY took Hasbro and Takara THIS LONG to make a version of this?(outside of the MP version). And they still haven't done an Ultra Magnus whose cab transforms into his non--powered mode and combines with his trailer. Thank F for Fansproject and Perfect Effect.
