Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager wrote and produced this. Because the song was about being alone, each singer was shot separately and then put together as a split screen. And you are right their voices were magic together. This song was everywhere in 1986. Their voices blend beautifully and are both husky and soulful.

I've seen both of them in concert, individually, and the audience, for good reason, goes abso-freaking-loutely WILD when this song is performed!
Interestingly... They never met in the studio to record.
In the studio, each was, "On my own, by myself..." 🎵 🎧 🎶

This is a really good song that I've heard, at least, a few times before! I think this may be the only song in which I've ever heard Patti LaBelle, but I've heard Michael McDonald in a few other songs, both as a solo artist and with The Doobie Brothers. They both have amazing voices that go really well together! I'd definitely be interested in you featuring more songs from both of them - Michael McDonald, especially - on your channel!

A nice combination of two great voices. In some songs I found Patti a bit too loud drowning others out but this was a great partnering. Michael was a terrific addition to the Doobie Brothers.
