"DVD player is not set up" Error AND ESR Crash at Magenta/Black Screen With Burned PS2 Backup Fix

- Update My disc drive in my PS2 quit working a few months ago, so I won't be updating this topic anymore as I probably won't get another PS2 with a working disc drive. I highly recommend all of you that own a fat PS2 to invest in a SATA HDD or SSD and the Network adapter for it, as it completely eliminates the need to burn backups to a blank disc. This video recieved way more attention than I thought it would. So I may do a full tutorial on the entire softmodding with FreeMCBoot, OPL, HDD with PS2 firmware install, and how to load games onto the HDD for a FAT PS2. Stay tuned.
It is also important to note that I did this technique on a Fat PS2, model number SCPH - 30001 R. If you have a question involving ANY PS2 model that is not this one, I cannot help you, I am sorry.
This tutorial aims to show you how to add "filler" files to a PS2 iso. When you burn the "filled" iso to a disc, most if not all of the writable data on the disc is used and thus will boot in a softmodded PlayStation 2 console. The "DVD player is not set up" error is simply because you need ESR installed to the PlayStation 2.
I had patched my Persona 4 ISO with ESR Patcher GUI 0.4, then burned it to a DVD-R and I was getting this error on my SCPH-79001, DVD player version 3.11U. I had an official 8MB memory card with FMCB 1.966 and OPL 1.1.0 inserted and what got it working for me was just removing the card. I couldn't find anything about this error on forums or whatever so I hope this helps someone.

what type of files would I need to fill a disc with +2 gigabytes? I have a need for speed game that black screens with esr patcher on slim 3.11u an I think its because the disc is not filled
The types of files shouldn't matter so long as they don't interfere with the game itself. 2gigs is a lot of space to fill, I guess you could take some files and copy them in separate folders inside one parent folder. Fiddle around with it and let me know what you come up with.
how did you get ESL to show up on your playstation's menu? I am having trouble downloading ESL onto my ps2 from LauncherELF or whatever it was called. thanks!!

Wonder if this will work for Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance as its the only backup that wont play. Tried it with so many DL disk types ,Toxic DL etc

Hi, i have a pal ps2 slim scph 70004, when i try to play a esr game i see 2 error :
1 dvd player its not setup
2 unknow media in Device
Esr game are patched i use a lot of different version of esr like esr beta 9b and i use esr
patcher gui 0.24. Can you help me? Its like my ps2 does not want to play backup games (ps he read perfect ps2 games and dvd)
My disc drive died a few months ago, before it died I moved on from burning discs to getting the HDD network adapter. I did this on a Fat PS2, the 30001 model, so im not sure if I can give any advice on systems that are not this one in particular. I updated the description, take a peek at it.

This can be a finicky process. I recently did some more custom songs for GH2, burned a disc with this process and it didn't work while my other burns were successful. I also found out that some games will not launch with component cables. I have a hard drive in my ps2 for most of my games and also found out that some games wont launch with the hard drive connected from OPL/ESR (Phantasy Star Universe: AOTI is a good example for this), regardless of whether it was launched from disc, HDD, or USB. Maybe try to fill the disc to 4.65gb or even 4.7gb (note, your disc burning program might notify you that the game size exceeds the disc size limit, just burn it anyways and see what happens). I only have access to a working disc drive on 2.10u firmware, so I cannot troubleshoot problems on any other disc drive firmware. Also, make sure you are patching the disc with either one of the ESR patching software before burning it. What game are you trying to backup and burn? I could see if I have a copy and play around with backing it up and burning it myself. As for the different color screens, Im not familiar with what the error is behind it. This (www.ps2-home.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15) page on the ps2 home forum has a compatibility list of games that will work for ESR, so keep in mind that not ALL games work with OPL/ESR. I guess that would have been good information to add to the video, oops.
@@ProfessorSkinwerd I was just playing around with some different games and the game that i tried was dragon ball z budokai tenkaichi 3 and kingdom hearts did nothing.
