We always have closed all curtains and blinds including outside blinds from early morning in Summer . 😎 we have also watered the outside roof in summer to cool things down late afternoon.
Well presented video . I hate it when people on a working holiday visa complain that we don’t have any heating in our houses . All new modern houses have insulation these days .we have full duct reverse cycle air conditioning . We only use it if we really need to because our house is insulated .
Yep -and more and more houses are going with split system heating/ cooling! That said, I’m currently living in a 1920s house, which, even with ducted heating is impossible to heat or cool because it has absolutely no insulation 🙄, so I can see why some have issues. I think though, when it comes to people from the UK, they’re accustomed to smaller houses with fewer windows & probably don’t realise the need for closed blinds, door snakes etc in the cooler months???
I love Ryan, we really need to rescue him from Indiana asap! 🙋 There is no longer a typical home here, and most federation homes have been extended or modernized! My sister did some Sydney housesitting, particularly for pets, and most were big luxury or upgraded terrace homes! Old Federations, Bungalows and Queenslanders still have a verandah! A fireplace is now a romantic luxury! 🤔👍
Still lots of Tassie homes with fire places - I did picture that the homes that this lady stayed in were more in the luxury range… so I’m getting that people in the northern states do refer to “bungalows” - when I think bungalow, I think more of your tropical style house??? What’s your definition?
@@CheekyKoala In Sydney there are many of them, they are usually referred to as California Bungalows - so a standard 2 bedrooms off a tiled verandah, bathroom and 3rd bedroom, before the lounge, dining, kitchen, laundry - most now have upstairs and/or family room + deck extensions!
Brisbane has inner city terrace housing, but its not common and what is there has been updated, from what I know. I was from Brisbane originally but I moved west in my teens and I only visit it now because my daughter lives there.
@@CheekyKoala Well I don't know if it's that, since I haven't lived there in a very long time, but I do recall terraces. I don't think it ever had as many as Sydney. I will have to keep more an eye out next time I am there.
The English girl of Dreaming of Down Under runs a pretty good channel although her posts are infrequent. She does good city comparison videos as well as her vlogs. She housesits and looks after pets for her customers. You are correct that she mainly housesits in the nice suburbs of Sydney while her customers can afford nice trips to Europe or wherever. I agree with Ryan's observation that Australian homes are more like American ones, than like British homes; a lot has to do with big country vs small country. The original house comparison video is very good and not very much to critique about. Laundries are rare in UK homes so to have the washing machine and clothes dryer in the kitchen was normal. You have probably seen the kitchen in Rob Reacts channel? I lived in England for two years growing up we did have a small separate room adjacent to the kitchen for the washing and drying which we called the laundry; but to have this was rare. I disagree about double insulation housing in Australia. Although it sucks for us at this time of year I would rather this than in the middle of summer having a very hard time trying to cool your house; I still see Victoria and Tasmania (debatable) more of a warmer climate than a cooler climate.
I need to watch more of Rob Reacts! I agree that her channel is pretty good, it definitely seems to have a rather strong Sydney bias though! I’m currently in a house that is virtually impossible to heat or cool adequately, so while right now, I’d say that I’d rather be dealing with difficulties of cooling off in summer, I know that when it hits summer & inside my house is still 24 degrees at 3am in the morning, then I may change my mind 😂😂😂
