Jordies seems like a good bloke, and he's dealing with a ton of problems because of all his exposes, he's one of the few journos in this country outside the mainstream (murdoch) press who are willing to talk about the illegal and corrupt crap that goes on in the upper echelons here
As someone from Adelaide I would SO much rather live in Melbourne than Sydney, not a chance I’d live in that place. Perth over Sydney too
As a Melbournian, I love my home city the best and love to visit the other capital cities but would never want to live there.
But. It's obvious there's no "best" city, only the city that best suits each individual. Honestly, YT videos love to hype Melb vs Sydney as a topic and then get people arguing in the comments, but it's all just personal preferences. Australia's cities all have their own flaws and wonderful aspects.
The only "rivalry" I've ever felt with Sydney was decades ago when certain things were much more Sydney-centric - for instance, national TV shows would cover topics that were relevant to Sydney/NSW but ignore or give lip service to things of importance to the rest of the country. There was a sense that Australia = Sydney and therefore it felt frustrating that Melbourne's significance wasn't recognised. That's really not the case anymore. Everything is now Sydney- AND Melbourne-centric. 😅
(Also the "hook turn" is only used in central Melbourne, which is very small, due to the abundance of trams occupying the centre of the main roads. It's not used in the suburbs or the rest of Victoria generally.)
Melbourne was voted worlds most livable city 7 years running for a reason.

Brisbane is the best. Seriously. Sydney is full of crime by thugs. Melbourne is full of crime by the Mafia and other ethnic crime families. They are both too expensive to survive in unless you are wealthy. Brisbane is expensive, and still has more than 2 million people, but it is more laid back, and not pretentious - mostly. Sydney has beaches on the doorstep and much beauty. Brisbane is further away from the beaches, but not too far. Just an hour or so - depending on where you live, as in area it's huge - from the Gold Coast or northern beaches at Redcliffe, etc. Brisbane has the largest hospital in the southern hemisphere - Brisbane Royal and Women's Hospital. It has all the entertainment venues, every cuisine known to man, including vegan, and the people are even more friendly. It's also an hour and a half from the escarpment at Toowoomba, where you can see spectacular jewel green views over the Darling Downs. Brisbane is three hours south of Hervey Bay, where you can go whale watching, and visit the largest sand island in the world, and it's stunning - Fraser Island. Melbourne has heatwaves, oppressive dust storms, seven changes of climate in a day, and the beaches are freezing even in summer. Victoria has a lot of history and pretty places. Sydney is close to the Blue Mountains, described by one foreign couple as the Grand Canyon with trees, and places like Lithgow offer stunning views. Qld has its own charm. Far north is tropical, but the south-east is temperate and has lots of fun things to do. Great place to raise children. Rent is high, but nothing compared to the other two. Perth is lovely. Adelaide has a climate like Melbourne and more freezing cold beaches. Melbourne fancies itself as having more culture, but they don't know how to throw a party like Sydney. For example, new year's eve. I remember when Sydney welcomed in the year 2000. It was amazing. Melbourne had blow up models of the creatures found in the muddy river, tied to the top of ferries. It was tragic. Sydney had these boats of lights on the harbour, and one commentator - Rove - was calling Melbourne's offer the "slug boats"! LOL It was genuinely embarrassing. They were really uncoordinated, too. Like the difference between the Christmas school play and Broadway. Brisbane has some spectacular stuff like River Fire, and is very family-oriented in the suburbs. Lots of parks, etc. Also The Gold Coast has all the big theme parks. Lots of people in Brisbane buy season tickets to those. It's an hour or so from the Sunshine coast as well, and that is a truly beautiful region, with mountains and beaches. You do have to have a couple of trips and stay in a variety of places before you ever decide on moving. You may be happier where you are.
Are you sure you aren't from Sydney as you sound very shallow and pretentious? Also how come you know so much about crime gangs. You sound very sus to me!

"Greater Brisbane" is pretty much the spot-on name for the whole conurbation. I was born and raised in SEQ, still here, likely to stay here. Plenty of amenities and places to go locally as well as tons within day-trip distance. I enjoyed visiting Adelaide and a lot of Tassie, but couldn't say the same for Melbourne or Sydney. Country Vic and NSW though is in a lot of ways like country Qld (just colder and wetter).
I wish this wasn't true, but when he said Sydney is a c___ and Melbourne just looks like one, that pretty much sums it up 🤣 I'm a Queenslander by birth & upbringing, then spent 7 looooong years in Canberra before coming to Melbourne 25 years ago. Melbourne may not have Sydney's beautiful harbour & beaches, but it has style, grace, trams, parks, gardens, fabulous food, comedy clubs, bars, theatres, lots of stuff for kids to do... I could go on ... 😁
Look at life outside of the capitals, I live in Wagga Wagga and things just keep getting better here as it grows. There are other places to live a good life on the coast, consider Woolongong or Traralgon. There is something for just about everyone here.

I didn't really care about or experience the other things with these two cities, but the ramen was good in Melbourne. On the flip side, before they opened a sister restaurant in Melbourne, Sydney did have Mamak at Haymarket with it's smacko roti and curries as a big plus.

Imo Melbourne winning by one half a terrifying Luna Park face is correct. I live in Brisbane, my favourite Australian city is Melbourne…Sydney comes probably 4th or 5th on my list even considering Sydney Harbour’s beauty. But I’d have to say Brisbane is actually the best place to live. It’s more reasonable as far as rental prices, it’s very easy to get around the place, there’s plenty of stuff to do AND the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, various beautiful rainforest areas, and the amazing coastline of northern NSW are all quite close to Brisbane. Neither Sydney nor Melbourne can offer this degree of recreational lifestyle options
As a Melbournian, I stayed briefly in Redcliffe and tried to convince my partner to move there. I failed, but it seems like a gorgeous place to live.

I've lived in Ballarat, Geelong and Bendigo. I retired to Bendigo. I love this town, spent some of my teen years living here, moved here again at 29 and stayed until I was 40, then moved back to Geelong, before traveling all over Australia. Though I was born in Geelong, I much prefer Bendigo. But Ballarat just never did it for me. Bendigo has far better weather, and a much nicer town. Just my opinion. Nevertheless, Geelong and Ballarat would be a far better choice than either Melbourne or Sydney.

The best thing to come out of both Melbourne and Sydney is the Hume Highway...and that's coming from a Victorian!

Queensland might be best for someone who loves a tropical climate. You'd need someone who knows it better to tell you where what you two value is, whether that's diverse food, sports stadiums, beaches. plays, nightlife, good area to raise children. I don't know whether Brisbane or the Gold Coast are better for those. Sydney is probably better than Melbourne for people who value going to the beach a lot, and are prepared to put up with gnarly traffic conditions in order to get to the beach often. Melbourne is way better for straightforward road navigation compared to Sydney.
Hook turns are easy once you learn them in Melbourne, and are well worth the price of having great tram services, which are important for when you want to drink/have kids/don't keep a second car, want to reduce car use.
If you need to go cheaper, Ballarat in Victoria is ugly, but has all the regional healthcare services. although Bendigo has a decent hospital too. Bendigo is gorgeous with a very pretty little business/arts centre, it just doesn't have the cultural diversity of melbourne. It's about a 2 hour train journey from Bendigo to Melbourne CBD, I used to live in Bendigo and visit Melbourne frequently. Geelong is the largest regional small city, and has a lovely waterfront and big footy stadium. Regional victoria is lovely... you have to travel to Melbourne for most types of Medical specialists. It's a cost of housing versus convenience to specialists/sports stadiums thing.
You know what? I'd be super interested in video about what living in Malaysia is like. Video of some streets, some buildings, the old and the new, some visual cultural differences from the UK, and a little chat about your experience as a white guy in Malaysia.
I'd also love a little video on what it's like living in a Muslim majority nation. What the differences that way are from the UK, are there some daily differences, or is it something you hardly notice? Is there something you stay away from because the laws are different, and was that a change in your life after the UK, or has it made little difference in your life? What is Ramadan like for you? Is it a big thing going on around you when it happens? Are there some treats you love during that month?
Gold Coast is great if you love tourists. A little back aways into the hinterland is better. If you need a beach, better to go further north. We aren't all tropical here. You have to go up to the tropics for that 😁. We have a wide variety of climate here, with the exception of long periods cold/wet/miserable. Just expect that whatever weather you get here could be turned up to 11. If you don't want urban life, then regional anywhere is nice, really. Leisurely road trips through the countryside pretty anywhere in Aus are hard to beat. Although, I haven't been into the NW corner yet, so I am just going by the rest.
G'day Mate! until 2021 I lived in Sydney for about 40 years and I never heard of "OGallo" or "Grill'd" Must be Central Sydney or North Shore things...Melbourne does have better fine dining than Sydney but Sydney have a greater variety of diverse restaurants...Cheers!
I would rather make a choice of any regional city over multicultural Syd or Melb.

If you're only going to live in Melbourrne or Sydney, you might as well stay where you are. I've spent time in both cities, but mostly Melbourne, because I grew up not far from Melbourne. Sydney is the better city as far as sightseeing and things to do, I feel. But Melbourne isn't far behind. If you want city life, both are ok. But if you're only going to live way out in the suburbs, you're not going to see much of either city to be honest and you won't experience the what Australia is all about. I'd recommend moving to a small town out in the country, but stay away from both Melbourne and Sydney, far too hectic. Perth is a nice place and there are plenty of smaller towns around Perth to choose from, though there isn't much to see or do in WA unless you like exploring the rugged outback.
I'd be more incline to check-out QLD - north of Brisbane. Any where from the Sunshine Coast to Cains. That's where you'll find the ideal Aussie lifestyle kind of living. Great beaches, warm weather, relaxed atmosphere. You can swim all year round, BBQ every day. Kick back on a shady verandahs with a cold beer and watch the sun set. What more could you want.

Ok I’m 2.30 mins in and my commenting thumbs are twitching… so here goes… Melbournite here… shamelessly love this town. Sydney is beautiful but Melbourne is home. On the food front he is delusional! Melbourne has the best restaurants and bistros and even Gastropubs in Oz. We have entire streets dedicated to specific food types… Victoria ode is Vietnamese… Lonsdale street, Greek.. yes we boast the largest Greek community outside of Athens. A land street os cakes, Lygon street Italian and of course our china town os a sensation but Chinese food is amazing all over Melbourne.. Best bang for your buck. Perhaps he only frequents takeaway joints???? Hook turns accommodate trams… do you want to be tboned by a tram in Collins street???? I have seen idiots race the tram and the pile of twisted wreckage left to them when they realise trams can’t brake fast. Doh!!! I don’t know what agalo is and I have eaten at Grilled twice. Food in Melbourne is the best and economical. Sydney is pretty … no doubt!
What you don’t think Sydney has area that have many multicultural restaurants. Harris Park Indian, Cabramatta Vietnamese, Strathfield Korean, Leichhardt Italian, Chatswood, Ashfield and Chinatown Chinese, Then you have Parramatta, Newtown, Darling Harbour and The rocks lots of mixed. I know of few others area that have some good single restaurants like Granville great BBQ chicken shop and Bondi great fish & chips shop.

Rivalries take up a lot of space in the heads of Melbournites; no-one else cares including FJ who is clearly banging the drum to get peeps in to see his show. Melbourne is definitely very stylish and fashionable, it’s enforced like a religion. “They” say there, that politically, they’re the most progressive city but no one’s ever seen the evidence. Trying to think of an effective progressive federal politician from Melbourne. Nup, sorry. Factoring compulsory voting, I think producing quality politicians should stand for something. Sydney has them because I think it’s a city that builds strong local communities. If you can stand the wall to wall rugger talk and humidity for much of the year, it’s probably better in Sydney.
It sort of depends on what things you would like to change from your current environs and what you most miss about your homeland. If you are tired of mega cities, but still enjoy the tropical climate, then I’d say Brisbane. If a good food culture is a deal maker, then Darwin is the go but I’ve always thought you need to be - kind of frontier; take on all comers and be prepared for the “the build up” ahead of summer rain when the place goes ape-shit. But if you’re ready for 4 seasons; a chance to don your tammie for a couple of months of the year at the footy, enjoy relative civility, then it has to be Adelaide. And Adelaide is small enough that bad restaurants don’t survive like they do in the big smoke. People here have standards in all things - a Lutheran influence? so that just leaves Perth which puts mining at the centre of everything and Hobart which is just plain backwards.
P.S. if your thing is beautiful beaches, then Perth, I think, has the best and the most and they aren’t crammed up with people like in Sydney. Don’t go too deep/engage in activities like surfing that will attract the attention of sharks. But as far as I know there’s no other dangers like the jellyfish they have in the warm waters of Qld. Yeah … it is an important note for foreigners so I should add that Adelaide beaches, whilst you can’t surf at them, are safer from wildlife because they are in a gulf. There are surfing spots that surfers think worthy of the drive to and hit or miss places closer to the city but nothing of note. But because of our cold water gulfs and peninsulas we also have the best seafood even if nowadays, most of us can’t afford to buy it the best stuff now, it’s that good all the worlds rich folk have out bid us.
Point one. Grill'd is delicious and way better than Oporto and not even the same genre of fast food.
Born, bred in Sydney and like all my friends and family have no opinion about Melbourne. The subject never comes up. We know it exists but that's as far as it goes. This also applies to every other place in Australia so for all those Melbournites out there I 'm not picking you out for special indifference.

I'd never even heard of Melbourne being called "Melbs" before. Well I suppose it's about time someone tried shortening the name of a capital city other than Brisbane being Brissie (with a z sound). Time will tell if it will be as successful. Very few Aussies bother calling it Brisbane. I love my original home city of Brissie. But when it comes to trying to say what's the most exciting thing a lot of people try cheating and claiming The Gold Coast's theme (amusement) parks.
Brizzie, Ippy, Sunny Coast, the Goldie. I am not sure if it is an Australian thing or a Queensland thing (WA adds an "o" I think). Generally Melbournians consider themselves superior due to being more cultured. Sydneysiders assume themselves superior and don't need to think about why. Meanwhile, both New South Wales and Victoria have droves of people moving to Queensland. Make of that what you will. Adelaide and Perth do their own thing, and more power to them, as do Hobart and Darwin. Actually, considering it, despite occasional talks of various states seceding from the commonwealth, I think most of the rest of us would be happy if those two left the rest of us to it while they bicker between themselves. 😉

Sydney and Melbourne are both great places to live .... my view is that Sydney is a fastastic place to live and work ... almost Paradise on Earth, compared to other cities around the world. Melbourne is excellent, but Sydney is better.
The name Friendyjordies is ironic. For a bloke who makes a living out of hurling abuses at people, (real name) Shanks has the most fragile of glass jaws. He did a whole video attacking a reviewer who did not like one of his shows. This was full tantrum mode. This is what a Federal Court judge had to say about Shanks in a defamation case: “He called Mr Barilaro disgusting racist names, including a ‘greasy little scrotum’, [and a] ‘wog’ ... and repeatedly called Mr Barilaro corrupt. Although Mr Shanks styles himself as a comedian, his repeated use of such terms was not comedic. It was nothing less than racist hate speech.”
