I road from Caliente to Elgin 2 weeks ago. I was on a Triumph Tiger 1200, fully loaded, and the deep sand was a bit freaky. Especially when on Kane Springs road with not a soul to be seen.
Wonderful video great audio great camera perspectives you put a lot of work into that brother as a desert rat myself. I really enjoyed it. I don’t think my GS 1200 would be much fun in the sand, but I would love to get out there and see those canons great job!
Excellent ride. From the 93, rather heading east, down Kane Springs Valley, there are also head west into the the desert national wildling refuge. I take these out of Vegas frequently.
D Rock I had a KLX 300 and with your videos I got the DR 650 im 250lbs which was a little tough on the little 300 but now I absolutely love the DR. Thanks for awesome content but first lol got get that seat. Cheers JOE
Great video. I’ve been out in that area before and it’s awesome but desolate :-) if you ride that railroad track up from Moapa to Caliente that’s a nice ride. You have to ride a lot of the railroad track access road at times. Canyon is awesome.
@@precipiceofgrind you bet man thought I’d get ya a coffee 👍 or a beer 🍺 might just buy that steering damper from pro-cycle some time have a good day bud
It's always a great trip out there! Next time you're through Rainbow Canyon, definitely stop at the numerous petroglyph sites within the canyon. They're pretty neat to see and the Hummingbird Spring area is really cool too! I've been out that way a half-dozen times, myself and always find new stuff to explore! I was curious, did you encounter that big area of standing water on the road just outside Caliente on the road to the canyon, or have they finally controlled the drainage there? I've always been hesitant about taking the motorcycle out there because It's been well over a foot deep at times, so I've always driven the truck. I've never been out there when there wasn't standing water over the road, and there's no way around it into the canyon.... And yeah, that Kane Springs road is quite the desolate ride. I didn't see a single other vehicle the entire trip the last time I did it too! Another really cool thing to check out if you're ever on that piece of 93 near where Kane Springs road terminates is the landfill. I know it wouldn't seem like it, but they have a really awesome outdoor art installation called "RyanHenge" and a whole bunch of other cool stuff like Teddy Roosevelt's old train car, historic vehicles and stuff you just wouldn't expect to see at a landfill of all places. All you gotta do is check in at the entrance station with one of the workers, sign the visitor log and they let you explore all the cool stuff they have there. I was pleasantly surprised when I checked it out for the first time and have been back a couple times since. Christmas time is really cool there too because they really get festive with everything on the grounds of the art installation. It's a very little-known place and I presume they kind of want to keep it that way, but it's free and quite interesting!
I'll definitely be back in that area and I figured the canyon probably had lots of rock art, have to save that for the other channel! Good to know about the landfill!
Very interesting ride. For someone in Illinois it's like watching a lunar explorer. There is another RUclipsr in your area that I watch. "Brandman Stories " who has a small channel. And he does the desert rides like you; he has a great eye for filming nature. Anyway, maybe you two could do an episode together and share viewers. Just an idea, because I like both channels. You should watch his Lockheart Basin adventure. The kid is way tougher than he looks. Anyway, God you.
D Rock I forgot to ask but would you ever consider getting a steering stabilizer for the DR especially going trough those sandy areas were you are just curious man. I think it would help from the front tire digging in the sand with a newbie like me. I really value your wisdom. Cheers Joe
You know, I hadn't ever thought about it to be honest. I used to air down but I no longer bother. I usually just squirm my way through. It probably wouldn't make it worse in the sand. If you give it a shot, let me know how it goes!!
Your bike is squirrly on the loose hard pack because your fronts unloaded. Need to bare down on your rear sag, and or replace ur rear spring with more aggressive rate..
