History of the Apple Watch

  • We’re going to take a peek inside the secretive Apple Watch development process and the updates it’s received since its introduction. When Tim Cook unveiled the Apple Watch in September 2014, it ushered in a new era for the company since Apple had never made a wearable device before. And as you can imagine, it was no overnight project. In fact, the foundation of the Apple Watch stretches all the way back to 2002, when Apple’s design team requested several high-end sportswatches from Nike.

I liked my Apple Watch when I bought it, but you’re right: smart watches get outdated. I’m still wearing my (3+ year old, now) stainless steel first gen Apple Watch, and it’s on it’s last leg. If it’s not the battery issues, it’s the software, the watch gets so bogged down just responding to the OS that I hardly use it for what I used to. Now it’s mainly a timepiece/music control, can’t do much more than that at this point.

    • @nicbray1673
      @nicbray1673 6 лет назад +2

I can relate; when I first got the watch in early may, it was very cool and worked flawlessly and saved me time from having to pull out my phone to read a text and the battery depending on how much I used it lasted for a few days. But now using the watch I find it very frustrating and often time consuming depending on what I’m trying to do for example iMessage on the watch hardly works and almost all third party apps don’t work at all so trying to do anything on the watch other then check the time and date is unpleasant and time consuming were as before the exact opposite. It would be nice if apple fixed the issues Plaguing the 1st addition Apple Watch instead of focusing on the newest device (3rd Gen Apple Watch)

joshxkerrigan i didnt notice much difference between my series 1 and 3, not too much laggy, its like the difference between a 6 and a 7, very little... o my opinion
I do notice a lot of lag when using games like pong BUT who plays games
I lasted a week with the s1 before giving it to my mom and got the s3. But not b/c of lag or anything... she just wanted a watch and well might as well upgrade since i thought the s1 was decent
I only really use it to tell time
When im in a sketchy area
Or dont wanna take my iphoneX out of my skinny jeans to change a song 😂
I mean also again using it as just a time pice
Also i occasionally walk aroinf the house and let my phone charge in my room and i can rely like that and my mom does the same
Either way, i again never noticed an issue with my s1 and s3, both are very similar and even in speed its such a minuscule difference
I actually also gave my mom an iphone 6 (my 7 was broken and well i have my X)
Her 6 was really slow so i replaced the battery and... somehow, it runs as fast as my X, but since i did that battery replacement (and probably the 8th screen replacement that phone has had) the speaker is out and the back glass cracked (the camera lens) and now she is in need of an update BUT my 7 doesnt work on her carrier
POINT IS it might also be the battery, b/c somehow that 6 opened just slightly slower then my X, and oddly enough her battery lasts just slightly more in day to day usage now (and i have an oled display with a jailbroken iphone, with dark mode)
It might actually just be your battery... you have used it for 3-going into 4 years now

Sounds more like issues with the fact that it’s a first gen product. I’ve daily worn my series 2 since 11/16 and it’s worked flawlessly for the most part. Yeah it gets laggy every now and again but a simple reboot (like you should with any computer) and it’s back to it’s fantastic self.

Just upgrading from my Series 0 to the Series 5 which I'll have tomorrow. The Series 0 honestly lasted me longer than I expected it too. It was splash resistant, not water resistant at all but I work around water and it would constantly be doused in water and in pools and be fine(besides the water droplets tapping different things on the display, theater mode helped that). I could consistently do 15 min to 1 hour workouts on it and still get to the end of the day. Battery occasionally has some odd days where it'll drain really fast but most of the time it'll last all day still. Primarily have ended up using it for notifications, music, gps, and health/fitness. Excited to get to use some of the more simple newer features that Series 0 hasn't gotten like ECG, Walkie Talkie, and better Siri capabilities.

I like the series 2 the best. The regular aluminum one comes with the ceramic backing instead of the composite back on the series 3 aluminum. And that it’s not much different than the 3 itself. All while being way better and quicker than series 1 and Apple Watch original. I just got my series 2 almost 2 weeks ago and I absolutely love it. I love being able to respond to texts while not bothering my iPhone that has RUclips or RUclips tv playing while at work. It’s great.

Bobby G. Are you saying the Series 2 was faster than the Series 1? Because it wasn’t. They had the same dual core processor, but they renamed it S1P for the Series 1 while it was S2 for the Series 2. But they were the same ones. Same speed.

Had to roll my eyes at the reviewer who thought there was no "killer application" beyond telling time. Really? When I saw the keynote, my first thought was, "AT LAST, I can put my phone away in my backpack and not have to keep pulling it out--or keep it out--to see reminders, who called, or texted...." I could keep walking, exercising, shopping, and need only glance at my wrist to know if I needed to respond. I loved that. I still love it. Those, for me, were the "killer" apps. They still are. In short, all that stuff the phone does, but on a device that's hands free. That doesn't require me to stop what I'm doing, or that might slip and fall as I try to respond. YES!

I am not surprised that the kinetic watch band did not work as my friends and I had tried to make a shoe that used kinetic energy and you would need to walk around the world several times to charge the average phone, so using your wrist movements would do basically nothing.

The Apple Watch 4 is a brilliant device and I love using it. My only real complaint is battery life, especially now that the watch is several months old and the battery wear has shortened its life noticeably.

I hear a lot of people say that they hit their Apple Watch on stuff, but they also usually have never wore a watch everyday before. I bump my $20 Walmart watch against everything everyday, and it is quite a bit thicker than the Apple Watch. I would be pleased with the current thickness or even thinness of future Apple watches. I am waiting for this years release before I buy one, since it’s so close already.

  • @AlecInstant

Honestly I really didn’t care for the 1st gen Apple Watch but the 5th was what made it complete with the always on display and all the other innovations since the 1st gen. It really has come a long way. I tried a Samsung watch once. I liked the round display and turning bezel. But it was really really cheap feeling.
