apart from the Thailands mitt training videos this is the first one i've seen with a true professional athlete..thank you, you have no idea how long i've been looking for one like this in years
Man these are so awesome drills and who better to get a tutorial from then a legend in the sport. He is retired now, but he did great things when he was there.
He really has such an unorthadox way of fighting. It's a wonder how he's been so succesful with this type of syle. I think even he would admit that his style of dropping his hands works for him because he's fast on the counters but teaching someone to do that could be costly. That's why he's a legend. He does things that most people shouldn't and gets away with it. One of my favorite fighters of all time right here.
@MrBrandonb60 They tend to keep their hands lower in karate which is what his primary striking style, due to the fact that they focus on lateral movement which focuses more on quick footwork than using your hands and arms to block, its also how he gets such weird angles on his strikes
@FedExHumper Mate, Chuck gives the fans what they want to see. He has his own technique and everyone loves it. Having a straight on brawl is great to watch, and it works for him. Hes defeated so many people, mainly by KO and that's what people want to see. Hes been using the same technique a long time, only recently he started getting beaten. So maybe it's not his technique we should be looking at.... And being induced to the UFC hall of fame, pretty much says, 'Legend in this sport'
These are perfect combo's that will work very well and deffinantly take down your for, yes! With much more speed of course. But this training video is not being shown to you using speed.if it was you'd never get the combo's correct. Slow down , train slow and train correctly. That's why I like this video. Thanks.
Exactly. Speed will come. Precision equals power, timing beats speed. People get in to big a hurry and dont master the fundamentals and sadly some teachers let them, basically selling belts instead of skills, afraid people will quit if you dont keep promoting them
I have a lot of respect for Chuck, but if you watch his final fights, Chuck was loading up on his right. He was throwing that lazy pawing left and his opponents knew it. Whoever was training him should have prepared him properly!
He got alot of the same criticism which was well deserved. Using the same trainers, same sparring partners, same techs he didnt evolve as a fighter and he got figured out, finally out of desperation he started using takedowns of his own and mixing it up some but it was to late. As long as chuck was in the game he should have developed some submissions and some good takedowns or at least some feints in with his striking imagine how much more effective he would have been if you even thought he might try a takedown or he had 1 or 2 subs he had mastered. Amazingly good at what he did that's how he lasted as long as he did but you either evolve and grow or you die
@Halfredneck001 regaurdless of his chin the technique that rich used is what knocked him out, it was a lucky punch and i dont know what is best for chuck that was a lucky shot that got him, rich will never land that punch a second time.
He (Lidell) has his hands at chest height all the time, is that a good thing in MMA? I am not trying to be funny, its a serious question. it looks like it takes a great deal of skill to hold the mitts aswell. Good video.
@SuperGonggong : I dont think there was any animosity between the 2...Wandy loves to fight he just wanted to do well. I think Chuck had more to prove coz whn he came back to the U.S. ppl were sayin he couldnt beat Wandy. I KNO tht drove chuck nuts. Wandy i think had the advantage in conditioning and overall training. I just wish they fought in both factions coz their styles suit different situations. Chuck worx better with a cage but i think he woulda been at a disadvantage in a ring.
@FedExHumper "He even got KO'd by Rich Franklin" You say that like its a surprise. Chuck Liddell is more or less 10 years older then most of the other fighters hes being put up against. When your 30 and your opponent is 20 its not a problem, but when your 40 that shit affects you. Chuck Liddell has had his day, but no matter what anyone says, he WAS one of the greatest, and truly has earned legend status.
Chuck's a black belt in karate, a purple belt in jiu jitsu, trains with olympic gold medalists in boxing, was a collegiate wrestler in polytech, and trains in kick boxing. He's not some guy who just has knockout power in his hands--if he was only that, he would have never been the force that he was.
chuck wear shin protectors in order not to hurt his partner,as you can see chuck sometimes uses a combination that requires using a roundhouse and his partner will just block it by his shin also... i hope this will help...^^
@FedExHumper yes he is a wrestler and no one can keep him grounded, the difference is he beats them at their game and finishes with his, he beat overeem, guy mezger, and several other strikers so get your facts straight, better yet take a look back because he has beat some of the greatest.
@FedExHumper well me to, but wand and chuck were on a mission to kill one another, wand would easily lose to a guy like chuck, well not easliy but another 2 rounds could be devistating, im just saying he always used knees, but know no one is really that small,
@JohnnyBoyCali That was a fatal mistake he made agains Rich Franklin in his last fight . . . he was dominating that round, but at the last second, he overcommitted with his chin.
@FedExHumper Chuck could take wandy in that day, he had the size, lenght, reach, chin, cardio, to do it. Hendo did it, and shit I mean Wnad is consiferably smaller, damn what about his fight with overem? he would smash pride if that had been his home. their was lots of skill but many fighters dont use knees the way they get kneed,
@SuperGonggong Question... WHERE did i say "u wouldnt kno coz u dont train"? read carefully b4 u respond and dont let ur emotions for an overrated fighter get the best of u... im WELL aware that boxing is one dimensional. I was simply countering ur claim that its hard to keep ur hands up in an exchange... Im ALSO well aware of Chuck's strong suits i kno he has great takedown defense.... but the fact he's gettin KO'd by ppl he shouldnt should warrant a reason to work on his defense for striking.
@SuperGonggong Honestly, i WANT them to rematch... but i KNO Dana wont let that happen... he wants to protect chuck coz theyre close friends. True Hendo ko wandy but i Just bcoz Hendo did doesnt mean Liddell is capable of doin the same. Hendo evn caught Rampage with a few bombs. all chuck could really manage to do was daze Wandy but nt ko him....wandy did the same...all he could do was daze Chuck.... it truly was the best fight of chucks career if u ask me. Wandy doesnt need the Muay Thai clinch
@SuperGonggong statistically, Chuck would win based solely on his physical attributes... like u said he DOES have the reach advantage. His weakness is the fact he doesnt kno how to keep from gettin hit. UFC is ALOT different than Pride was i dont think Chuck had the cardio to go the distance if he and Wandy fought there. 10 min rnds vs. 3 min rnds is a BIG difference. Honestly, i think thts wat made him lose to Rampage the 1st time, he punched himself tired. I also think thts y Overeem lost.
Man.. can't imagine the punishment you'd endure holding pads for Chuck in a training camp.. Your brain would be rattled so often that you would be concust.. a lot.
Hi, have you heard about "MuscLeader" (have a look on Google)? On their website you can watch a useful free video explaining how to develop notable muscle mass really fast whilst reducing unwanted fat as well. Chris and plenty other guys enjoyed amazing success because of this approach. It might help you out as well.
Chuck Liddell was a beast back then. His striking technique and takedown defense was ahead of its time in mma. RESPECT4EVER!!
Agreed
apart from the Thailands mitt training videos this is the first one i've seen with a true professional athlete..thank you, you have no idea how long i've been looking for one like this in years
Man Chuck was a beast..because of him i joined MMA..simply awesome..
Man these are so awesome drills and who better to get a tutorial from then a legend in the sport. He is retired now, but he did great things when he was there.
Chuck's hand speed and length is unbelievable. Deserving champ of his time.
Liddell is a real killer, he know all his combo perfectly !
Anybody only here to see if hes always been trash on pads? Lol
Patrick Reipe lmao literally me
Lmao, yea dude. That shit was sad in that recent video
Lol yeah me to lol
Haha spot on mate 😂
lol exactly why I looked for this vid
Peep the elbow locked in tight when he throws the left hook. "shutting the door" Guys a natural....
power of his kicks are visible . thanks chuck this helped a lot
Even just holding pads for him, I still wouldn't want to get hit by Chuck Liddell......
it's all about the ballance and putting guys at the end of that power. he's aged but we all do. lots to learn from this legend, salute.💯
Christopher Mccloud What?! He still hits like a truck lol.
The combination with the punches and then left hight kick + right knee looked v impressive and Powerful !!! niiiiice
Great explanations of drills! Thanks

One of my favorite fighters of all time right here.
Old but gold!
Them knee shots are devastating
These are some fantastic drills
Wow, Chuck!!! Amazing!!!
very good instruction.
Those are some great drills.
great work.
1:47 combo used on tito ortiz
Thanks for the tips!
best tutorial so far thanks a bunch
@MrBrandonb60 They tend to keep their hands lower in karate which is what his primary striking style, due to the fact that they focus on lateral movement which focuses more on quick footwork than using your hands and arms to block, its also how he gets such weird angles on his strikes
good tutorial, thanks
@1001n8 not sure his kind but we use hayabusa gear they seem to take and hold good.
thank god Chuck didn't miss that pad when it was on that guys back, or else the guy holding the pad would have shit out his own kidney lol
Gsp,bas rutten, semmy shilt, chuck liddell, are all very effective karate guys
man that was a great routine if only liddell used more of those kicks in his fights ohhhh if only!!!!
I LOVE CHUCK LIDDELL!!
Does anyone know where Chuck Liddell uses his Karate-Knowledge? Did he ever use it in the MMA-fights? This (video) looks like simple kickboxing to me.
Nice
He is a legend
his jab is great!
unless you have held mitts and know how to properly do it. your elbows and wrists are dead the next day. I learned that the hard way.
Obviously you haven't done any backround check on Chuck Liddell. He's improved his skills thru several martial arts.
mitts holding guy is awesome; wish i had him to train me.
@FedExHumper Mate, Chuck gives the fans what they want to see. He has his own technique and everyone loves it. Having a straight on brawl is great to watch, and it works for him. Legend
interesting teknik of padding by the coach
Definitely need help with takedown defense, what drills to do etc.. if anyone can point me in the right direction... Much appreciated.
You are sooo right about that..
+1
wuda been nice to be able to see his foot work

Check out Marc Macyoung (he goes into the mental side of self defense that is often overlooked), and check out Geoff Thompson's stuff on you tube.
Hey centrals, how about Rashad and Rua??
I have a lot of respect for Chuck, but if you watch his final fights, Chuck was loading up on his right. He was throwing that lazy pawing left and his opponents knew it. Whoever was training him should have prepared him properly!

this lidell guy has good punches

left kick is shocking
i never new why chuck never threw his kicks there fucking crazy
god he is fast. i always forget that.
I miss the old Chuck.
how solid are his hits.
chuck wear shin protectors in order not to hurt his partner,as you can see chuck sometimes uses a combination that requires using a roundhouse and his partner will just block it by his shin also... i hope this will help...^^

@RohanMMA he didnt used to have to
you not watch the whole vid did you, boy?
@FedExHumper yes he is a wrestler and no one can keep him grounded, the difference is he beats them at their game and finishes with his, he beat overeem, guy mezger, and several other strikers so get your facts straight, better yet take a look back because he has beat some of the greatest.
Fuck those a hard shots he’s not even going full force he was lethel back in the day one of the best straight rights.
im not trying to be funny but this guys proves that you dont have to be cut and built to be able to beat up on opponents.
@FedExHumper well me to, but wand and chuck were on a mission to kill one another, wand would easily lose to a guy like chuck, well not easliy but another 2 rounds could be devistating, im just saying he always used knees, but know no one is really that small,

chuck liddell all the way.
his hands are low because thats how he fights..he likes guys coming in and catching them with counters..
I don't wanna hold the mitts for chuck. Looks like that body punch hurts a little
those sounded like they hurt
his hands are so fast for being a bigger guy
@FedExHumper Correction 3 5min rnds.!!! i dnt kno wat the fuck i was thinkin lmao
@FedExHumper Chuck could take wandy in that day, he had the size, lenght, reach, chin, cardio, to do it. Hendo did it, and shit I mean Wnad is consiferably smaller, damn what about his fight with overem? he would smash pride if that had been his home. their was lots of skill but many fighters dont use knees the way they get kneed,
One cross and you're out cold .
That kidney punch would spoil your lunch
its weird how low he keeps his hands
chuck is going to return he is going to coach TUF middlewieghts and will fight Tito again

@salvationwar agreed alot of amateur mma is taken to the ground. my wrestling helpsalot!
that straight right is a Piston, would not want to take one of them.
look like ringsides to me but i cannot be sure
Chuck was such a monster back in 2005 he should’ve retired after UFC 66 in my opinion
@SuperGonggong Honestly, i WANT them to rematch... but i KNO Dana wont let that happen... he wants to protect chuck coz theyre close friends. True Hendo ko wandy but i Just bcoz Hendo did doesnt mean Liddell is capable of doin the same. he is affected by the body punch to the kidneys ...u can hear it in his voice lol
hahahaha this coach looks scared as hell dealing with chucks scary ass punches. I'd be scared as shit training that lethal dude
Man.. can't imagine the punishment you'd endure holding pads for Chuck in a training camp.. Your brain would be rattled so often that you would be concust.. a lot.

how long do i hit the mitts?
try 3 min rounds 1 min break maybe 3 rounds to start and work your way up. its about speed, timing, accuracy, and eye hand coordination. have fun!
its great cardio also!
+RandomlyBen 3:56 minutes per day.
