im gonna write a book about these characters istg
You don’t know how hard I clicked that Pinterest link
YOUR ART IS AMAZING AND THE PINTEREST IS SO HELPFUL THANKS
You betta 👏👏@@moony_mine28
The plus size baddiiee?? Excuse me!? More of that magic, please and thank you!
I'M BARKING
YES!! And her haaaair 😍😍😍 I want this haaaair
FRR- SHE IS SO CUTE TOOO
I love seeing body positive artists include different body shapes, sizes, and colors in their character designs
moth witch that whips out their lantern staff to fight and then gets distracted by its light and starts following it around like a dog chasing its tail
17:55 I also love and appreciate how normalized you are with making black characters concerning their facial features, hair styles, and complexions. 🤙🏾🤙🏾
Ikr!? I hope to get just as casual and good at it someday
Idk if its just my crow brain wanting collectibles, but i would love like trading cards of your art with a small write up of the characters on the back. Your designs never miss!
this!! all i could think of was tarot cards when seeing these illustrations because theyre so ornate
@Vimblesart omg yes!!! Kira- if you haven’t already- could you maybe make a video designing a tarot deck? Or designing witches/wizards/mages/sorcerers based on the different cards? I think that could be really cool and really fun to draw and design!
Yes!!! I'd love to see these! She's so good at character designs and stories for them, I think it'd be well-suited to this idea!
Same I would totally buy them❤
I love this idea, could be great for people to use as characters for tabletop games.
Moths are just emo butterflies. Change my mind. *sips tea*
they are mostly nocturnal!
Rosy maple moth?
Swallowtail butterflies(Eastern black, Spicebush, Pipevine, dark Tiger)?
@mothlamp5123 *thinks about it* No no, they have a point
The narrative and characterisation in this video is so inspiring. The best bad guys have this much depth to how they fell to the dark side, but the thing that makes it tragic is having a redemption arc which can never fully resolve them because they went too far and there's either no coming back or they can never forgive themselves once they realise what they did.
Kira: "I'm gonna be indulgent with myself this week and make a character design video"
Also kira: puts ginormous amounts of effort and lore dev in every one of these videos
White which moth just casually balancing a 15lbs arctic hare on her outstretched arm.
Ok, so what if our little vampire boy was actually from a village of vampire-hunter magicians ? Some vampires being very powerful wizards, the fact that he could use their own power against them made him a really important ally for the villagers - only for them to shun him and start relentlessly hunting him when he accidentally used his ability against one of his own instead of the enemy, killing his friend and becoming vulnerable to the vampire’s magic at the same time. This is why, being marked by the enemy’s magic, he got turned into what he had been taught to hunt, having to balance between his hunger, the mourning of his friend, and trying not to die by the hands of those who once trusted him.
Time has passed, and the villagers he knew are long gone, but the nightmares and the pain from the curse still haunt him every single day and night ; thankfully, his hellhound friend his here to comfort him whenever he needs a hug, and so is his new coven TwT
(I’m feeling really angsty because I once thought that a service dog could help me with my mental troubles, but I was never able to get one for many reasons. I’m thinking of bringing back the idea I had to create a character with a service dog. Thank you Kira for sharing your amazing work, and for reminding me of this character idea that I really liked for the comfort it brought me. Lots of love on you, Friend 💚)
I love this story!!! He gives me Emet or Charlie vibes name wise ❤
im always in awe of your art, but this time i found myself so invested in the lore i might have to watch this video a few more times just to watch you draw without sreaming "THAT'S SO SMART!", "OMG!", "YEAH!" to my computer screen.
Atlas moth guy NEEDS to have a bunch of sea water with bioluminescent algae (dinoflagellates) in it as his light source! This would fit so well with his pirate background!(with the sea and all that) ~ signed, a biologist and algae enthousiast (seriously, look up a video of bioluminescent algae if youre unfamiliar with them!)
Also, according to Greco-Roman Mythology, Atlas was the first ever king of Atlantis, which was famous for drowning into the seas.
Name Suggestions:
White Witch Moth: Either Jadis (I also was reminded of Jadis, the White Witch from "The Chronicles of Narnia".) or maybe like an Inuit name because coincidentally, the Inuits believed the souls of the dead dance within the aurora; sometimes carrying torches to guide those still within this world.
Atlas Moth: Either Atlas (Of Course) or Gigantes (The Greek name for Giants in Greco-Roman Mythology) or Titan (Since Atlas was a titan according to Greco-Roman Mythology). Also, now that you mention Jafar, I don't know if it's because of his familiar, but he kinda looks like a mix of both Jafar & Shan Yu from Disney's "Mulan". (Also, I think I'm simping hard for him, LOL)
Death Head Moth: Styx (After the River Styx of Greco-Roman Mythology that also serves as a name for a Genus of Death Head Moth's.)
Comet Moth: Phoebe (The name of the Titan Goddess of Prophecy of Greco-Roman Mythology, which could tie her more with Atlas, but also one of the names of the moons of Saturn, which was named after the Greco-Roman God of Time.)
Vampire Moth: Brahms (As in Bram Stoker, the author of "Dracula", also the name of the antagonist of the Horror Movie: "The Boy" to add to the whole evil vibes Vampire already has.)
Edit: On the second thought, scratch Jadis, a commenter named @cutedarkarts suggested the name Aurora which I thought was absolutely creative because of their reasons: 1. In reference to White Witch's magic source, & 2. In order to allude to "Sleeping Beauty" (Or at least, Disney's adaptation where the princess is named Aurora) since Wintertime is mostly associated with slumber (I.E: Hibernation). They also said Atlas would make sense for the Atlas Moth Warlock since Atlas is also the name of a book of maps (Both to tie in to how the Atlas Moth Warlock acts as a guide to a road to redemption to his fellow coven members & because he likes to travel) which I really thought was creative. So, shoutout to them!
I loved the idea of naming the White Witch moth girl an Inuit name, so here are some Inuit names I found and their meanings:
Qannik; karmik; Ivi- snowflake
Tarniq- an Inuit word that means spirit
Tuumaq- word that also means spirit or soul
Tapeesa- arctic flower
Atka- guardian spirit
Amka- one with a friendly spirit
Kissimi- alone
Kanna; Vaila- snow
I was so pleasantly surprised by the difference in the appearance of these characters. I really think you did an amazing job portraying the different body shapes. I really loved the lore that went with each one and it felt like it made complete sense. I really didn't get what you thought didn't make sense, it was all just so YES. I love this and just want more! Your art is amazing but with all the added lore and backstory makes you feel so very connected to each character. You start to be invested in their lives and I really loved them all so very much. I think that you could do more with them and come up with outfit changes, transformations or even just interaction between the two sets and I would eat it up! ❤
When I started watching the video, I wasn't sure whether I'd watch till the end... As much as I sometimes enjoy watching people drawing if I'm really into their style, ultimately it's not really my thing (I'm more of a sewing person...). What kept me hooked was the way you created a universe, characters and backstories. Literally drew me in and kept me hooked, like a kid listening to someone telling a story. So, maybe you weren't concise enough for your taste, but pretty sure I'm not the only one who enjoyed your story telling. Thanks a lot Kira, for a very nice time.
character idea that I humbling bring to your consideration. Princesses/Princes based on spices.
YO THIS IS SICK
Hey btw I learned of a new mushroom recently called the Inky Cap mushroom that leaks a dark ink like liquid you might like
Whoa! Just looked those up, so cool!!!
I really like Atlas, he looks like he gives good hugs
Your moth creations are always so cool. As a fellow crafter, I can't help but be inspired when I watch your videos. Love your work! 💫🐸
Name checks out haha
I adore how you constructed the lore and character backstories ! It makes the designs always so interesting.
I think my favourites are the white witch, the necromancy witch and the vampire kid, but all turned out beautiful. I am really enjoying these longer design videos.
Atlas is my dad. That’s my head cannon. He’s my dad. Thanks for coming to my tedtalk
Starting with silhouettes first is kind of genius 😮😮
for the atlas moth, maybe he could be called Harrow? (giving king harrow from the dragon prince :) like aesthetically but also vibes?)
You're so right he's definitely giving Harrow ✨
So much lore popped into my head while watching this. Like whenever the group travels through a village, the people shuffle away in fear whispering "pale eyes". Another thing I thought of was that deadhead was actually tricked by a vengeful spirit who manipulated her into helping them create a new body for it. 😅😊. My imagination went wild yall. I love these designs
these characters are all entirely different genres that got shoved together into a found family and i love it immensely
I’m astonished by the amount of work you put in those videos
I think the comet moth lady should become very attached to the vampire boy because vampires also are not fully tethered to time. I feel like she would meet him and immediately have a more focused mind not because she’s no longer drifting through time but because she knows she’s not alone in time. Like no matter when she ends up, he’ll always be there too and it’s something she can focus on to regain memories. Also her fear of her own death might not feel as daunting if she’s faced with the alternative of living forever in a physical being like a vampire.
don't apologize, it was like art and storytelling rolled into one! loved it
I rarely make a comment, but I absolutely love the backstories and how you tied those characters together!! So please don't be sorry for so much creativity! Would looooove to see more of it!
I haven't watched this yet but I already know it's going to be great. I love this type of videos where non-human things are turned into beautiful and creative character designs (imagining their personality and lore is also really fun). Moth motifs (really cool animals by the way) work really well for a witch design in my opinion
I really enjoyed this section of moth witches ( mostly bc I like misunderstood villains ) and I could really see this becoming a book or something like that
I absolutely adore how you bring these characters to life with their art, their stories, the symbolism and thought you out into them. They feel like characters I can truly connect to and care about, and not many cant achieve that. Thank you for the lovely character designs as always, and thank you for feeding my creative juices with more motivation, inspiration and ideas
i wish i was this good at creating lore and characters wtf these guys are so cool i wanna read an entire series about them rn
These characters can have my soul, its fine ^w^ They are simply too fine of designs, all the love to marvelous moths ♡
i actually really like listening to the lore as the drawing goes on it is very satifiying and also im not scared of 37min long videos sooo thank you for sharing your art !
this might have already been said but the death's head moth character design reminds me a lot of Azula from avatar because her clothes (specifically the shoulder pieces) really remind me of fire nation clothing, her hair and the connection to lighting, this probably wasn't intentional and I think the design is really cool
This whole video made my creative writing student senses tingle!!! I'd love to write short segments of possible events/interactions these characters have (fully crediting you of course!), I love the personalities and dynamics you've created for them!
I like a long video! And your ideas about lore etc. are really interesting and fun to listen to. I for one, am not complaining at all about longer videos.
I just wanted to say I love the way you render skin and color. It gives such depth in a lively way instead of looking overpowering it brings a light to your art ❤️
I personally LOVE hearing about all the lore and their personalities, each one of these turned out gorgeous! also the white witch is my body type/ a bit of my personality which makes me happy 😊
Atlas moth character is one of my favorite characters you've created, absolutely love everything about them. Great job with the face of our chunky moth witch too, often people draw a skinny face on a thicc character and it doesn't look quite right but you nailed it ❤
It really is epic how casual and natural the representation is in your art!! As a plus size girlie, it makes me really happy to see your gorgeous plus size designs. I would LOVE to wear something like the white witch!
These are so gorgeous and mesmerizing! I love listening to the stories you create for them. I am absolutely in love with the comet moth outfit and color palette, reminds me of 1912 Edwardian fashion (Titanic era fashion).
Your detailed lore and art is so entrancing that I couldn’t help but imagine scenes from whatever story this is. Atlas moth protecting Vampire moth from hunters and screaming “He is but a child!” And the hunters replying with, “That is no child, but a monster of its own making!” And white witch moth sort of protecting Vampire moth as he cries into her side. Hawkhead moth would then immediately attack and no one would stop her because even she can see that what they’re doing is wrong and Vampire moth doesn’t deserve that.
I'm late to this but i love watching your design videos as like a "nighttime windown" as they're like storytime but with the most badass characters! I love all the designs but that first one just got me the most, both the design and backstory
I'd watch a whole tv show with these characters- their story arcs are all so interesting!!!
The fact that you made a character with a double chin look beautiful has made my day.
The White Witch Moth and Comet Moth Witches are my favorite designs. They're both very unique and very inspiring.
great video! love the take on villians as cursed. I've always been very enamored with the idea that the curse feels like an external force but really you're cursing yourself (maybe through dreamstates or time loop shenanighans)
Someone may have pointed this out already, but it's very fitting that the Atlas moth character is a guide of sorts, considering one definition for an atlas is a book of maps/charts! That also makes it pretty fitting that he's traveled so much! (Also, Atlas is my chosen name, so I was definitely surprised the first time you said it 0: )
I love these witches, they're so cool.
I love them all. As an author this sparks so many ideas.
Love all the details! You did an amazing job, and I really enjoyed the longer, more rambly video.
I love how she casually drops the most amazing designs AND builds a crazy deep lore !
I had a recent experience, holding him off because he was wet from the rain :3
He was one of them fluffy ones with the pretty antenna
I freaking LOVE moths
They are so cool and beautiful and 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
This video and your other moth video made me SOOO happy and this one is just so good
I actually made a shirt design based on the death Hawk moth myself so seeing you create characters based on that one was so fun! Mine felt like it could of been a moth or person dressed in a moth outfit with scythes.
i think the lore dumping makes it all the more compelling! you dont owe anyone a short video-- the people who are going to skip to the end are going to skip no matter how long it is. the rest of us get to sit and listen to the galaxy brain concepts you've thought out for these guys
The white moth witch is my absolute FAVE!! Her hair is just so insanely beautiful?? I love her so much
PLEASE MAKE THIS A BOOK!!
I LOVE the stories you came up with for these characters so much!! I would love to see a comic about them. The designs are fantastic.
These characters are so cool!!! I love the moth witches!
i love the longer format!! if coming up with the amazing lore brings you as much joy as hearing all about does for me,then you're doing everything right!
also the designs are sooooo cool i can't even pick a favourite
The moth of inspiration has returned.
I love your longer videos where you ramble about your characters! It's super interesting to hear your thought process and why you made certain design choices. The Deaths Head Moth is my fave.
This would be such a cool concept for a book
You are SO INCREDIBLY TALENTED. ❤ I have yet to watch a video of yours where I'm not completely enthralled! This was so great to watch, AND it was a longer one too! That was a great bonus, I really liked the longer video ❤ 👀
9:25 she is definitely a witch that uses souls
Nothing will ever compare to how happy hearing the name Jim Jimminy Jim Jimminy made me, and not hearing it makes me so sad every time. I miss you Jim Jimminy Jim Jimminy!
Never apologize for taking time to say what you want to say! I really enjoyed listening to your ideas and potential stories for these characters - it's amazing! If this were a tv series or a comic I would be obsessed
Okay but I love it so much that you are not only putting so MUCH effort into your art, but also into the individual stories of the characters, this is beautiful 😭😭❤
I imagine Hawkmoth to be a rather stuck-up person (atleast she seems like one bc she´s not very talkative and ofc her looks and abilities make her intimidating) but whenever Madargascar Moon has one of her amnesia / confusion phases, she instantly rushes to her side to comfort her, not giving a shit about her posture / appearance / impression on others.
Netflix needs to hire you so I can binge this as a show
love the death's head hawkmoth one (lightnings, raven,....)
Awesome video as always, these designs really slapped! Keep up the great work ✨️
Thank you SO much Kira for the greater diversity of this crew, in terms of body shape, gender expression, ethnicity & even age!! Would love to see that breadth of inclusivity continued in any of these future "inspired by x" vids! Super-awesome.
I love the idea of Atlas panicking a bit if the Vampy boi is missing
"Where's the baby" style.
DARK WILLOW?! VAMPIRE WILLOW?! DON'T TEMPT ME WITH A GOOD TIME AND SOME BUFFY CONTENT! Loved these witches btw, I wish I could design characters too!
0:31 It’s meeeeee!!!! Thank you so much! I recently encountered my first luna moth (or something similar) in real life outside and I thought about your moth videos again.
The vibes of the necromancer's background are just superb!
It would be awesome to see all of these characters from all your other character design videos together in the same universe where they all interact with each other where the lore is all merged into one cohesive story.
Some names I like for the moths:
White witch: Anwen [in welsh means “very beautiful” also associated with the color white]
Atlas is a great name for the atlas moth
Deaths head hawk moth: Agrona [an old English name meaning “goddess of strife and slaughter” also old Celtic meaning “battle”]
Madagascar moon moth: Elara [the name of one of Jupiter’s moons. Has Greek, Italian, and Arabic roots. The name of one of Zeus’s lovers]
Vampire moth: Elio [a name with Spanish and Italian roots, it’s an epithet to Helios the Ancient Greek god of the sun.]
I am currently in the process of not only designing a moth cloak for me irl, but a couple of bug themed gods for my story and you have been a huge inspiration so thank you💛
I like that you have a story background for each character. These are beautiful! 💜
Death head also has backwards feet?? Lol I was waiting for an explanation of them or something. Whoopsy 😂 it happens. Love all the designs 😍 I love how you come up with these rich stories for your designs!
Oh my god wow these are all amazing!!! You are just amazing at character designs omg
I FORGOT I HAD PLEDGED AND FELL OUT OF MY CHAIR WHEN I HEARD MY NAME, wow, the perks of being senile, you get lovely surprises like that. XD
Anyway, always here for witchy content! I live and breathe for that shit and this gave me life
OBSESSED WITH THE LORE FOR THESE GUYS
Love your storytelling and these characters
thanks for the extended lore dump. i care them now
Yes! The death's head hawkmoth is my fav, so glad that you made a design for it!
I love this channel but I'm literally terrified of moths so it's always fun trying to watch the moth vids without crying 😭
A truly excellent video and amazing drawings. I love the way you draw and paint Black characters. Stay awesome and keep being INSPIRING.😃👍💯💫
Loved the art, and especially the backstories. All these characters seemed like they'd be amazing to play in a dnd or tabletop setting. I personally shipped the white moth with Atlas immediately after seeing them and love the idea that they kind of adopt the vampire boy. The other two being great creepy aunties.
Ok, so ideas:
Snowy Moth: I think something like Aurora would absolutely be perfect for her. One for the tie to the Aurora, two because snow and winter are often tied to sleepyness, which can also be caused by losing one’s soul (ie becoming lethargic), in a tie to the sleeping beauty story.
Atlas moth: Obviously Atlas had to stay his name, one for the fact that an atlas is like a big book of maps and guides, which he is acting as towards the other coven members, and two, because he’s a well traveled man who probably has a lot of maps from his travels anyways.
Death head Hawk moth: I think name like Nero or Hel could fit her
Time Moth (forgot name of moth whups): I think a Greek name would fit her, specifically Moirai, as her powers are tied to time and eventually seeing fate, And Moirai is the collective name of the three fates.
Vampy boi: Honestly, gonna be stereotypical here, gothic Victorian lad makes me think black butler so Ciel, or on the other hand of stereotypes, Lestat because I’ve watched too much vampire entertainment.
I absolutely love your thought process around Aurora & Atlas! 😲 I was thinking of Styx for Death Head (Both to reference the River Styx of Greco-Roman Mythology & a Genus of Death Head Moth's named after it), Moiroi I also like the thought process behind, but may I suggest Theia (After the Titan Goddess of Sight & Vision. Which could connect to Comet's connections with Atlas but also Theia is also the name of a Saturn's Moons & Saturn was named after the Greco-Roman God of Time.) And lastly for Vampire, I was thinking Brahms (After the author of "Dracula": Bram Stoker)
I really love all the names you came up with especially Aurora and Atlas, although I think Brahms like chance said would be perfect for the vampire boy.
Also, I am just coming home from college and this is the best evening gift.
I am very in love with the White Witch oh my god
WOW! What a great video with such amazing designs! And the lore was so fun, so headcanon dump below:
Building off Atlas attracting natural disasters and evil creatures, what if all cursed witches attract bad luck due to a combination of their own personal vices and as a part of the curse. And with cursed witches teaming up and forming a coven the dark energy is even bigger and more dangerous. This could contribute to them being feared as they might bring or do bad things even though they don't necessarily mean to. This crew could also be unique if cursed witches usually fly solo due to not being able to form connections with others, but somehow Atlas was able to bring them all together.
Some same suggestions
White Witch- Dusana/Dusha, Enid, Psyche all mean soul or and Isolde means ice ruler
Atlas Witch- Atlas is just too good
Hawkmoth- Maybe Mary like Mary Shelley or Tempest, Vetra, Zilan, Capala or Levina/Lyn
Comet Moth- Maya meaning dream/illusion or Mara meaning bitter, Lestari ironically meaning everlasting although she’s destined to die
Vampire Moth- Rupert means bright flame though it might be better for the dog lol, Ezra or Sila
I also had some ideas about the previous moth witches, I don’t remember if they were given other names and I don't think they were given familiars so…
Luna- Deer(maybe White-tailed Deer specifically); matches the white birch antlers on their hat and I think that a stoic and graceful animal that can actually be very strong and dangerous fits her character.
Scarlet- Devil Gecko or Satanic Leaf-tailed Gecko; the name and look suit the punk aesthetics of the character and the leaf camouflage fit with his flora affiliation.
Rosy- Bear(brown bear? Kodiak?); I think a bear suits her fluffy appearance, and I think the smallest and novice character having such a big and commanding familiar is cute.
Okay, and a headcanon about the “good” moths that connect the two groups:
What if Luna and Scarlet were displaced or their original home was destroyed or weakened due to shenanigans of the dark witches. In the aftermath Luna chose to help any creature affected by dark witches, but without being directly involved in stopping the source of the dark energy in fear of losing what she had left. While Scarlet becomes jaded, developing an “everyman for himself” mindset after losing so much. But after becoming Rosy's mentor, Scarlet opens up and learns to care for others again and Luna becomes braver and determined to restore balance to nature.
Again, Thank you for the amazing video you're such an inspiration! 💕
I find myself imagining those “compilation of character being blank for blank minutes “straight” videos with your characters even though they are literally just designs
