I thought I was getting a new computer for Christmas. Talk about surprised when I opened the first box to see a Cricut 3. My son overheard me talking with a niece at Thanksgiving who helped him find the right one and extras. I am gobsmacked! It’s been a very long time since I have been surprised at Christmas! My niece told me two things: A) Watch introductory videos before you even take it out of the box B) Use your iPad with it. That’s much easier than your phone and since my laptop is mostly for work, it keeps things separated.

@@CricutTime I have not. I watched videos, I’ve been moving things around in my crafts room and have storage and work surfaces almost sorted. However, I had to pause for prep for the start of the spring semester which happened this week. I hope to open the Cricut box tomorrow since I don’t have anything to grade this weekend. I have a faculty meeting tomorrow, but it’s not supposed to be long.
I purchased a Cricut Joy Xtra in August. I loved it so much I purchased a Cricut Easy Press 3 in October. Now I just purchased a Cricut Maker 3. I’m excited to make a lot of stuff.

thank you had my maker 3 for 4 months never nessed eith because i wasnt sure if it needed blades or what i used printer paper like you did to get the hang of it now I'm starting to understand the whole concept so basically if it was vinyl i could of used it as a sticker or iron vinyl to iorn on to a shirt i have the hat iron kit as well but i wanna get the shirt one too and start experimenting, so i printed my name not in cursive so ots all individual letters would i normally get transfer paper to keep it all aligned or something
With cursive, you have to do 1 extra step. Just select the writing, and then click on "Combine" in the bottom right corner, and then click on either "unite" or "weld". This will remove the cut lines between each letter. Good luck!

I need to cut 3 to 6 inch letter stencils into thin card. I use stencils to draw letters onto stone for sculpture.
I'll need to keep centre tabs to retain the middle parts of some letters. Like O and B etc.
I won't need heavy weight card. Birthday card thickness is fine. Do you think the Cricut Maker 3 could do that?

New cricut user and got one for the school I work at.
One thing I found was that design space wouldn't open or install until I switched my laptop to using my phone's hotspot. So apparently it needs an internet connection to start design space but the school's firewall wasn't allowing that.
How does it know to line it up when cutting it? Does it not have to be lined up to cut in one line? How do you know how big the paper you are cutting has to be?
Jonelle -better a late reply than no reply. From what I could see from the design area of the program there is a grid that displays the height and width of the design elements, in this case the design elements were 2" tall and fitted across the page without overlap, therefore the demonstrator cut a 3" tall strip by the width of the sheet. As for how the machine knows where to place the design elements I'm fairly sure that when the mat and media are loaded the machine does a pass, maybe two, that scan the top and bottom of the media and places the elements appropriately. Which is not to say that if the media you feed in is too small you run the risk of the cricut still cutting the elements anyway.
How do I get to the design space. ? I have it down loaded but can’t get back to it !

You showed a dial to adjust the cut on a cricut Maker 3. Mine doesn't have a dial. Is the dial standard?
No worries, the dial is for the Explore line up, I just wanted to show that for those with an explore, because the set up is the same for both machines.
I am actually thinking about buying the machine, but your response will be what decides my decision, so I would like to ask you if we can use it for gold foil or not

So, I'm officially an idiot. I did the tutorial, which is great, but I didn't know that my light grip mat still had the plastic coating on it when I put it into the Cricut for my test cut. Needless to say, that was a disaster. LOL UGH. I own a woodworking business, and I'm trying to expand my horizons with the Cricut. We bought the Cricut Maker 3, and just perusing videos on it, I see that it is an amazing machine!!
Well you’re not the only one feeling like an idiot😂 I forgot the whole mat underneaths because I used te smart vinyl but just a tiny square of it. Full on PANIC it scratched 2 tiny strokes but nothing bad but whew💀😂

is it normal for my door that won't open when I open top door as you demonstrated on this video? I literally manually pull down the 2nd door!
Yes you have to manually pull down the bottom door.
How does it know if you’re using card stock or any other?
You tell it what you're using when you go to make it.
Design Space only shows for MAC. So does that mean it doesnt work with Microsoft WIndows?

This machine only works if it's actively logged into the cricut servers? AND our personal designs must be uploaded to their servers before we can use them on our machines in our own home?
I use Google docs or word for my own personal stuff.

The color that you put on the mat is what it becomes. The color in Canvas (on screen) doesn’t change the color of the material. It’s for you to keep track of your layers if you have multiple.
Mine didn't even come with a blame or tools..

Is it because you're on a computer and I'm on a tablet?
Yes, but you can download new fonts into your tablet if you want more to work with. There are lots of free font sites out there like www.dafont.com

Some are sold as a bundle deal with tools and or sample materials
