I love the explanation that we are "pulling the sound out of the instrument", and that the way to strike it is as though we have touched a hot stove. So helpful for a beginner. Thanks.

Love your easy style of Teaching! Straight forward, articulate and comprehensible. I've always found counting a pain and I just got you straight away on another video I saw. You should think of doing online course/video tutorials. I'll be in touch one day, cheers mate, From Australia.

I wonder if those Fuzzy ball on the end of a stick would take away the thumb slapping sound? Personally I dont mind it, But Dead Can Dance did Opium and it did kind of over shadow the tones.. And as I see your lesson I hear that sound and Wonder if there is a way to get the tones from the pan without the sound of the fingers hitting it.. Its not a must but I really want the pure tones for this project.. Though Im not a hand pan artist so Id be willing to take the input from any partner I get in this project with.. Hit me up if you like the sound of the idea so far and well talk more details..

A soft mallet perhaps, or dummer / golf gloves work as well!

@@JacobColePercussion HEY IM not sure if you where the one who was down to go a psyops style song using nostolgia like gyote or how ever you spell that dude we all use to know? if you recall the science behind it, and of course Fade into you Mazy star did not really intend it. Though its not my style nor something i want to really perform a lot, Id like to give that the entire work up. Because I personally believe the method isnt just can spawn a hit, But with the correct understanding all around will. Dono wtd with it but well will see.. A dead can dance kind of thing. cross the three. And Opium by DCD

Almost all semi/pro handpan players/tutorial makers were already percussionists before. But no one mention it. Its not possible to become a 'real' handpan player without to know how to play percussion instrument(s).
But that's only 2 cents from someone who bought an handpan, learned and played for a full year and is even today unable to play what you play at 2:08.

I mean, I think it took longer than a year for him to be able to just break out into that groove almost without thought lol.
