  • Exploring further along the north western Cotswolds escarpment, we begin in Saintbury and drop south to Snowshill, back north to Weston Sub Edge and then head east across Todenham, finishing in Sandford St Martin.
This episode of gems offers a variety of interesting stories: churches under restoration, lost buildings, closed pubs and one very lovely John Piper window. These are classic English villages, well worth a visit to any Cotswold traveller.

I can't help wondering how many gems are there in this piece of land in which architectural beauty of the churches mingles with the peaceful landscape and together seem to defy the changes of time ...! The thorn of modern life has not been successful so far and I strongly hope that your voice and the National Trust will prevail ! Watching you always and looking forward to the next episode. .From Romania ,with love !👋👋

Originally from the Black Country, but 17 years self imposed exile in Spain.
A pity the NT won't let you into Snowshill Manor. As you know, it has to be seen to be believed.
We were told that the collector had crammed so much stuff in, he moved into the smaller one time servant's cottage to make more room, but then filled that up too!
It is the complete randomness of the objects that are a delight.
The Samurai collection is apparently better than anything in Japan and priceless. But not far from it are several cases full of embroidery thread! From the sublime to the utterly ridiculous and with no apparent rhyme or reason. That is why it is such a treasure.

    Robin,
I cannot tell you how much pleasure you Ross and the dogs give my wife and me, as the nights draw in your narration and images are a delight. We toured the area for 3 days by tandem in October...and used your videos as a guide! We, as you, fear that the unique beauty of this wonderful place will not lead to its downfall and by development...however sympathetic and well meaning...thank you again.

All IS well with the world and it's going to get even better. IF I ever make it back to England, I hope this visit to see the three areas I missed in 1971...the Lake District, Bath AND the beautiful Cotswolds. You make the beautiful countryside come alive for me, sitting quietly at my computer. Thank you so much.

Right from the beginning the bibery church was so beautiful, glostershires dales are one face of the Cotswold,In 19th century a church was Renovated, some of the churches and pub and manor dates back to ten or thirteen or fourteenth century it's all beautiful to look at and to go up there, Martin's story ,who was a soldier and due to his charitable character he was replaced from army to church is quite interesting. These Cotswold beauty's need an enormous sum so that they can be updated and renovated, Cotswold is really a beauty by it's cottages and ancient pubs, some of the perishes are from the time of roman's down to Edward the second and Elizabeth the one and,how in 19th century parliament managed them and lastly up untill now how it's holds on is remarkable

According to the inflation factor £1,700 pounds in 1864 England would be worth £250,000 pounds in 2022. So, they spent the equivalent of £250,000 on that church. Actually, I don't think you could replace it for a quarter million dollars.

As a practicing Christian, I have a very hard time being unhappy that your'e introducing your dogs into the inside of active churches, unless the animals are medical support animals. Especially if any of these churches rightly boast of the Eucharistic presence of Our Lord in the tabernacle there! The sacred are meant for our highest and best adoration not for uncessary browsing or unrelated instructions at all. Proper respect due to the nature of God's presence meant for Christ's sacramental interactions with mankind must be kept off limits. Out of respect for parishioners and worshipers PLEASE keep the animals outside!
