OH MAN!!! This makes me so happy! I'm just about to get my license and been doing nothing but looking at bikes on youtube, and early on the XSR900 just hit me like an Amor's arrow. And I've just hoped it would be as good as I hoped it to be. No there's no reason to hesitate. God almighty I want that bike more than I want air!!

I too have an MT10, and admit I'm not the most accomplished rider and this bike is well beyond my ability, however she feels so special even at 50 % and that wonderful CP4 engine with aftermarket cans, plus ability to have OEM panniers, my only negative is hunting for petrol at just over 100 miles. Cheers Chase.

21 black mt10 here, started out riding around in mode 2. That started to feel limp after a couple weeks, so I keep it in mode 1 now. There is some off idle hesitation and lurch when taking off. Turned off the TCS and the lurch is gone. Just savin up for a mid pipe n can combo and a flash for full power potential! RIP my rear tire!

In both style and substance. A true to form naked retro street machine with a nutty 3 cylinder thumper.
It has a cool style much unlike its "gaming PC on wheels" brother, the MT09.

The tradeoff to go from excessive, almost unusable power to a more nimble bike that you can enjoy wringing out is ABSOLUTELY worth it. I went from a multistrada 1200 to a T7. Best decision ever.

I'm diggin it. I sold my Fj-09 after shattering my ankle and several back surgeries. Sold last year and have rode for over 20 years. Had an 05 FZ1 and traded it for the Fj with over 97,000 miles. Now starting to have withdrawals and know I can't take my long rides like I use to but have fun roads around where I live anyway. REALLY liking the 2022 XSR-900. Just hope the seat is more comfortable than the FJ. It was like a plank. I loved the one piece and how comfy the FZ1 one. I actually wish I could find another 05 FZ1, but not any for sale especially around me.

I’m coming from a MT07, and naturally thought of the MT-09…ride my friends and it seemed perfect…till I rode the 2020 XSR at Bike Week…fell in love. Now, with this 22 and the upgrades, I’m in more love. The difference between the 22 XSR & MT09 are perfect for me. A little less aggressive and twitchy from what o heard and that’s fine for me. Plus, while this bike has a retro style, it’s not too retro…at least for my taste…still low key modern. The seat is the worse, but it’s not a deal breaker at all! Thanks for the review…can’t wait!!

Clutches up effortlessly in 2nd and 3rd. That’s coming from someone who is very new to doing that. I’d buy the XSR only because it has cruise control lol. Yeah, I'm not loving the matching fender, tank cover and the little cowl under the seat. I would have to paint the fender black and the little under seat cowl black too. The truncated trapezoidal section at the back of the seat looks weird, and the old tail light just works for the aestetic. This tail ligntlooks like a Cylon eye.
Also, circumcising the fuze-box dealies on the sides just doesn't look quite right. I mean, a lot of people didn't get it, but I think it looks burly and cool, and it just looks wrong now that it's not there. The TFT probably is an upgrade over the LCD for most people. BUT I *like* the round LCD. Again, it works for the bike and the vibe. Truth be told though, I'd rather have a set of dual gauge pods with digital elements. // 2016 XSR owner.

OC: Been riding a heavily modified '03 SV 650 naked (customised GSX-R forks and brakes, custom rear shock, bunch of engine mods, more aggressive pegs, touring style clip-ons and various other mods) in western Europe for the past ten years, I wouldn't trade her for an MT-10. But I would 100% buy an MT-10 in addition, if I had the space (which I will, soon :D). If I had an MT-10, I probably wouldn't trade it for an SV either.
Having ridden both, both bikes are amazing, just in very different ways.
The MT-10 offers a confidence and a wildness that the SV will never have. Feels like riding a docile bear. Furious and sometimes outright scary when you want it to be, but just very reassured and steady when you just want to chill. I don't need to ride that bike at 10/10ths to get everything I want out of it and that is one of it's greatest assets. It's an experience, not a competition.
The SV on the other hand is light and flickable and you can use most of its' potential on public roads. But I'm literally unable to ride that bike relaxed at this point. I WANT to ride it at 10/10ths all the time.

I've owned a variety of bikes over the last 15 years. The xsr is by far the most exciting bike. Combining good looks, light weight and modern torque/performance is nothing but smiles. Plus it's a Yamaha, so parts/maintenance are cheap and it won't leave a puddle of oil in your garage. I've had harleys, sport bikes, and ADV bikes...nothing has come close to getting as much attention and people walking up to me to ask about the bike.
I'll lay down the argument that the first generation is the prettier bike, but Yamaha obviously cut some corners with suspension and tech. Looking forward to trying one of the new ones myself

The 5cm difference in the length of the swingarm between the MT 07 and Tracer 7 makes all the difference for stability. The 07 is borderline dangerous at high speeds in crosswinds. The Tracer was totally stable. Playfulness comes at a price.

OC: Yes, I'd go for something smaller if it suits your style. Harley is more usable than a Mt-10 but that's just not me. But, with regards to the XSR, do you think it is as comfortable for cruising compared to the MT-10?

Incredibly pretty bike. Simple, continuous lines. Sleek, large uninterrupted surfaces, tasteful headlights and small interesting subordinate design features like the vents and headlight bracket. To me, that is a properly executed design. In contrast to the MT line, obviously for a much younger and squidtastic crowd, the design reflects such intentions. Extreme angles, jagged edges, angry looking features etc.

Ive got a 2016 xsr900 as well as the new 2022 mt09 sp. I love the way the new and old xsr looks. If they give it full ohlins like the sp ill for sure consider switching to the new xsr. Regardless though you really cant got wrong with any if the cp2 or cp3 bikes. Curious to see if they'll give America the tracer 700

I owned a last generation mt09 and compared it back to back with the speed twin. I loved the look and finish of the speed twin but the yamaha triple is a way better engine. Since the speed twin engine is still the same and the yamaha fit and finish has improved on this model, I am sure this bike is much better than the speed twin. It is also cheaper.
