  • In this short video I demonstrate how to deactivate the alarm on my Harley-Davidson Dyna Fat Bob. The procedure is similar on most HDs. You need to be able to deactivate the alarm to do some maintenance work and to remove or disconnect the battery.

    Had some loose wires from the previous owner that I wanted gone. (the positive was disconnected, but the negative was still attached, and it didn't look good having an old, rusty connector hanging out from behind the cover) I, and presumably my neighbours, were quite surprised by the blast of sound when I uncoupled the negative pole. I managed to get the useless stuff out the way and reconnect everything, but this video would have saved my ears some trouble. Good to know for next time though.

    Hi, not sure if you can help me? 2018883 iron, kept in the living room, so you'll see why this is a MAJOR issue... turned ignition on, fob present but realised bike battery was pretty low. Bike didn't give option to enter PIN but alarm went off anyway.. for about half an hour on and off. So, I put a charger on it over night. Now as soon as I do anything with the switches the alarm goes off.. for about half an hour on and off. So, I have removed the battery and am charging on the bench.. only seeing about 12.6 volts currently, (no pun intended). I have now changed the remote battery and removed the main fuse. Can you tell me the sequence for reconnecting the battery please and shutting the bloody alarm up? If I could find the siren I could remove it.

      Hi Nigel. That sounds like a royal pain. My concern is why is the alarm going off if the fob is present. My first step would be to fit a new battery in the fob. Even if you already tried this. I had a similar problem when I fitted a new fob battery which turned out to be duff. Only when I replaced it did the problem go away. Another possibility is a fault somewhere in the wiring system. Have you seen my video in which I discuss a fault in the rear indicator wiring causing the alarm to trigger? Good luck with sorting it. Electrical problems are the worst to track down.

    Hello, thank you, and yes this 'little video' was very useful. Just one question: After you pull out the main (orange) fuse, do you / can you turn the ignition off? And can you take the fob and key away until your return to the bike to continue working on it? . . . Sorry, I do have one more question. I saw a video in which it was said that you can pull out the bike battery fuse (one of the many little fuses behind the panel) instead of physically disconnecting the battery. Would you know if this is correct? And if so, presumably you would pull it out after pulling out the main (orange) fuse so as to not set off the alarm? . . . I've just discovered you channel, subscribed and looking forward to watching other videos on it. Again, many thanks !

    What do you do if you’ve removed the battery without doing this?

    • @SongsFromTheSaddle
      @SongsFromTheSaddle  10 месяцев назад +2

      The alarm will go off, unless you don't have one. (the alarm has its own battery). Reconnect the battery, switch the ignition on and off with the fob present and it should cancel the alarm.

    My problem is slightly worse, my bike has been parked for a little over a year now and iv lost the keyfob, to make things worse when i tried to start it up the other day with the passcode, i realised the alarm went off when i removed the battery to properly charge it and now it wont even let me enter the passcode, is there a way around it? Its a 2016 sportster superlow

    So you've removed the 40amp fuse with the ignition in the on position, do you just leave it in this position (on) during duration of battery removal and reinstall ? if so, do you also leave ignition in the on position when pushing the fuse back in ? thanks 👍

    • @SongsFromTheSaddle
      @SongsFromTheSaddle  Год назад +2

      Yes. Just leave the ignition in the "on" position & keep the key fob nearby.

    If the bike is stored for a few months with a lithium battery and dont want any parasitic draw, is removing the 40 amp fuse a good approach or is their a simpler method?

    A I got a question for you I got a 2009 Fat Bob CVO none of the Harley-Davidson dealers I called can tell me how to find my pin and look at it they all give me every other way to turn this change that do that do the other thing would you know I'd appreciate it

    • @SongsFromTheSaddle
      @SongsFromTheSaddle  9 месяцев назад

      Mine's a 2008, so hopefully the procedure is the same for yours. This is what you need to do: With the key fob present, turn the ignition switch on-off-on-off-on. Press the left turn signal button twice and release. Press the right turn signal once and release. Both sets of turn signals should flash three times. Your PIN should now appear on your speedo screen. Make a note of your PIN and then you can just switch the ignition off. If you want to change the PIN, when it appears on the screen, the first digit should be flashing. Press the left turn signal button the number of times you need for the first digit (eg, press it 7 times to make the first digit 7). Then press the right turn signal button to advance to the next digit, and repeat the previous step, etc. Good luck!

    I want to know how to permanently disable the alarm and have it run like a normal bike w/o those gizmos and dead key fob battery to worry about.

    • @SongsFromTheSaddle

      Search "Completely Disabling Buttonless Fob Security Systems ('07 up)" Have no tried it and it looks like those that have had experienced success and failures. Removing and replacing the security TSM makes sense though...

      Yes. You only need the fob present to deactivate the alarm. Just remember to have it present again when you reconnect.

    Thanks for the vid! I started removing my ignition coil and horn to relocate in my sportster then remembered I needed to remove the fuse to be safe. I didn’t know how to do it correctly and the alarm went off when I disconnected the battery! It was only later I realised you had to disarm the alarm by turning it in. Would there be any issues when I go to connect everything back up? Just have the fob near and switch it to the on position? Cheers!

      @@kayoedowner6711 Yes, you need the key present in order to do this, so it is no help to would-be thieves. I can only assume @Paul did not actually watch the video. I would not have posted it if there was a chance it would present a security risk to owners.
