Thanks Mr. Greg! Found your channel after attempting to hang shelf brackets & anchor bolts weren’t “catching”. Now I’m watching all your videos & wanting new vents…instead of hanging shelves. Figured the addit info may come in handy. 😂
Changing vents requires some technical knowledge about your forced air system that a typical homeowner won’t have. There are HVAC people cringing as they watch this. CFM (air volume) is primarily related to the “free air” that can pass through. Based on what I see these won’t provide the same volume as the stamped grilles being replaced. That’s not just bad in terms of comfort: it can also increase the static pressure in the system.
Always use OBD type supply air grilles if you want to properly air balance your house. It is the only way it can be done properly. OBD = opposed blade damper. Linear is not the way I would do it in the home with existing grilles.
Howdy partner! Mainly a style and aesthetic choice. Although the aluminum shouldn’t ever corrode and they are a little easier to clean (less dust) as well.
This video inspired an idea to have a battery powered vent that opens and closes using automations from Home Assistant. I wonder if you can 3D print some vent that takes a 18650 and pairs some low power servos, wireless communication standard like 400Mhz/900Mhz, and a temperature sensor... when the battery gets low, Home Assistant could send a notification.
That second screw, he put in, didn’t even make it into the sheet metal. You can hear it scrape the bottom and went between the sheet metal and the drywall. I guess he did not want to do a two.😂
I've got 13 vents to change out this week. Did one today just to see how it would go, and have to say, getting those self-tapping screws to bite was a bear. Yours seemed to bite quickly. With a 6-inch bit extension I get a lot of wobble before it bites. Any tricks to making the next 12 installs go easier?
@@kevinkraft9753 howdy partner! Good luck on your project. You can drill a small pilot hole and that should help. An impact driver may also work. Some of our vents went in and bit easier than others. Hope that helps!
The prices are not that bad, I just checked online. They do look much nicer. I never adjust my vents and it gives the ceiling a much cleaner look. I was checking another brand but those needed dry wall work and are a bit noisy. These seem to allow proper air flow. Definitely worth looking into.
These look sharp! Price-wise I know they're not for everyone, but having just spent 6-figures+ on a full remodel, I wasn't about to look at the 23-year old dingy vents against a newly painted white ceiling.
I don't see how they really help directionality much. I really want something that will feed the flow along the ceiling, so places where I might site near a vent don't get very cold when the vent is running! The directionality adjustments seem far too inset to do this.
Guys he needs the views to pay for these things. LoL Nothing negative, I like the smooth clean look. Just the price. But that house needed that update. Its to nice not too. Reality set in for me after the watch. 😢
All the talking is about appearance of the new vents. Very little mentioned about function. Is it better or about the same as old vents? I suspect the latter on function. Probably no functional improvement.
Yeah, seems like an odd design choice since they painted the louvers black, why not put some form of finger paddle on each (to retain the individual control)? It wouldn't be visible.
It's easier than you think. True, no little lever to open or close, but lever or not, you still have to climb a ladder to adjust. I tape the end of a plastic putty knife so sharp edges are covered and I can easily move the dampers to direct air to the right, to the left, or straight down in seconds. Not a big deal at all.
@@kevinkraft9753there are broom/mop type plastic handles that have a hole in them. Accordingly, don’t even need a ladder to adjust the vents with an extended out lever.
Big no. No adjusting lever. Hard weird angle to anchor screws in. They really dont even look good on that ceiling. If you buy new "old style" vents, they will look better anyway.
Those aren't "NEW" vents 😂 I own a home that was built in the 1880's and the vents are OG from the late 1910's - early 1920's and they are exactly the same, but obviously way better quality
Great product, hard to adjust and a restrictor of airflow. I'll take function over form
I painted my old vents after cleaning them. Cheap fix.
You'd think the manufacturer would supply a specific tool for opening and closing the vents for what they cost.
I’ve never had anyone comment positively or negatively on my home ceiling vents.
Vents ? What vents ? 😂
I hear you, but you’d be surprised at the difference. The old ones are probably just fine - this new style just really pops. Thanks for watching!
I never noticed my air vents until I saw this video.
@@artistjjebsen we have grown accustomed to their dinginess. You put modern ond people would notice.
They are not marketed towards you. Snobs only bro ewe

Glad you find us helpful! Be sure to leave a comment if you have any other projects you'd like help with!
The main problem is that they don’t really have much any actual information like what’s the throw? How many cfm? What velocity?
If you click on the links...they tell you that.

I’d recommend removing that popcorn ceiling step #1 in modernizing your home. It’ll improve the look of your new vents
Good call, partner! I have removed whole home popcorn before and it's a big job. Maybe a project for down the road.
Is there any kind of sound rating on those?
These are cool. Thanks for sharing. Is there anything similar for return air vents? I love to cover up the ugly ones we have in our kitchen area.

If you want to properly balance your system, you use volume dampers.
So what's the advantages over the old vents?
Howdy partner! Mainly a style and aesthetic choice. Although the aluminum shouldn’t ever corrode and they are a little easier to clean (less dust) as well.
None.

They make them already
Neat idea, partner!
I've never seen a vent with that, but I know they have attic hvac dampers that do that, accomplishing the same thing.
That second screw, he put in, didn’t even make it into the sheet metal. You can hear it scrape the bottom and went between the sheet metal and the drywall.

🤡🤣🤣😂😂
I said the same thing. It went in to easy. No resistance 😂😂😂
That's why there are 4 holes. If 2 are secure it's not going anywhere.
Having something that rotates the bit will make your installation easier
For sure! Thanks for watching!
Everything in the ceiling? You are running life dude
Thanks, partner! You can too!
Simply paint the old vent?
Not when it's rusted out and the has flaking paint. It's better just to buy a new one.
Painting old vents is a good inexpensive option. But, these new vents are a game changer in terms of aesthetics!
That's a really nice Slava Ilyayev you got in the background.
You’ve got a keen eye, partner!! Thank you!
your link is a dead-end?
Howdy, partner! The Amazon links in the description should be good or feel free to google for other suppliers. Thanks for watching!

Those vents are too expensive and impractical.
Noisy af as well

WTF how does the YT algorithm know i have these in my new house when I have not even google searched this yet?!?!

Have these and they suck - once you close them it is really hard to open them. Regret getting these.
Yeah but $50 to $100 each on Amazon?? Might be cheaper on Alibaba
For the Price, not really worth it.
Someone is going into serious debt trying replace some air vents🤔
Any link for on where to get it thanks in advance…
Howdy partner! There should be a popup in the video and a few links in the description too.
Not at that price lol.
Still have popcorn ceiling....
Great idea for a future project video. Thanks, partner!
There great, but this will cost over $500 to replace all my vents!! jess

too bad they don’t direct air left and right in addition to straight.
remote control vents are better
No one us paying $100 per vent.
Look nice but at 3x the cost? Nope.
And they have poor flow
No good, no lever to easily open and shut. I need to close and open based upon heating or cooling. These would not work for me.

At 1:47 he says you can close them completely. I wonder…
No, your new vent cover, the flow area is less than the old one. The old one also has simpler designs to choose from.
Lost me at using a puddy knife to open and close them. I close vents in rooms that I don't use often. This looks like pain.
did someone get paid
Just paint the older vents and they would look up to date.
I actually think the new ones look horrible.
kinda like a german car, just for looks
The price is ridiculous
Buy the same vents and replace the old. Save yourself a grip of green backs
Fuck that! $50 a vent. Waste of money. My old vents work just fine.

Vents are nice looking, but impractical. The popcorn ceilings look much worse than a painted, traditional directional style vent.
Purely cosmetic. No real functionality.
Sorry but I'm more concerned with function.
What a joke, no actuator lever to control louvers?…might look modern but totally useless!!!
