Very nice, but IMHO that it has a major setback: In an experiment, you control the conditions and have the feature of repeatability. Meaning (and correct me if I'm wrong): - Your control group is not the same. You must have the same set of cars passing by the same light, at the same hour of the day, the drivers being at the same psychological state/rush/ at the same biological state (e.g the drivers should be equally sleepy-hungry in every attempt etc). Therefore, the way I would propose for you to act would be to take the same control group of cars and observe them at e.g 5 consequent traffic lights which you have modified to be yellow when the cars arrive (if possible). (After all, 1 traffic light result could be just random). With this layout you can perform as many measurements as you like : e.g place a radar in a visible position in one of the lights , make sure that there is a substantial delay between two consequent traffic lights so that you can see how drivers act when they are delayed, place some oil on the road so that you can see if their perception of danger changes the outcome etc.
Pretty good, though in your experiment all cars got the same treatment! Two suggestions: 1) Have some cars see the radar gun, and others not see it. 2) Short summary stating that in the experiment you can say that radar guns cause cars to stop; but in the observational study you can't say that driving red cars makes people speed up because you did not apply any treatments.
Thanks very helpful. Re medical industry, this may mean that they can still run STUDIES on us without our consent and knowledge since legally (if I recall correctly) it is only illegal to run an experiment without the consent of patient participants. Someone please clarify my assumption
in a situation like this: An insurance company lets new policy purchasers choose whether they wish to purchase “accident forgiveness”, which allows the driver to avoid a premium increase in the event of an at-fault accident. Out of 200 new purchasers, 40 choose to purchase accident forgiveness. It is found that after one year, 8 of the 40 who purchased accident forgiveness got into an at-fault accident, whereas only 4 of the 160 that did not purchase it got into an at-fault accident. would it be considered an experiment or observational study?
Hello!!! Please help me.... We have a group presentation tomorrow and we are asked to present how will we show observation in gathering data. Please help me asap. Give me a scene about observation method. Please thank you
Thank you so much. Crazy how professors will for 45mins and confuse you when 2 minuites it can be summed up nicely
Thank you! Very clear to understand and not so much extra content, straight to the point!
I love how he mentions it's a radar gun.

Wow you made this so easy!
funny how the same car that stopped for the yellow light when there was noone there sped up when he saw the radar gun.
This is really helpful. Thank you
What is their similarities?
