indeed @stas anastasiou... Its really clear. But nowadays many researchers did single blinded experiment, just to make sure that they achieve what supposedly the want to.
you should of just moved to the west coast if you aren't out here alredy and bought a property and grown weed, would have been easily milliionaire a few times over.
I have read or wacth several content in order to understand the topic before but could not understand clearly. You made me understand within a minute Thank you sir.
This was helpful. I'm curious: when they test out vaccines, do they also do these as placebo/double-blind experiments to check for any potential negative effects?
Yes. If a number of people get sick and all or most of them are in the experimental group and not in the placebo group, then we can tell this is most likely adverse effect of the medecine being tested. However, if there are about as much people who got sick in both groups, then we can attribute the adverse effect to other variables.
Self-reporting is also an issue. Could having independent, measurable variables (like, how much can a person lift after taking the pill or placebo) can make the test more stringent? I'm trying to learn about these methodologies to combat superstitious thinking. Thank you for uploading!
This might be a stupid question, but if the experimenters don't know who got what, then who does know? How do they know what the results are at the end of the experiment if they don't know who got what?
Ah usually there's a qualified third party that is authorized to know which group is which and such and only tells the researchers the results after the experiment is over.
I'm kind of shocked as to how well you explained this. Did you go to school for this? Because I did. And your vocabulary and verbal demeanor is academically familiar
@@Simplelearningpro Just because you are educated in a subject or topic does not mean you can teach it. But you taught this better than most teachers I know.
3:25 if both of them doesnt know which group is which then it is possible to have the get the comparative data and how can one understands whether the Placebo medicines worked or not
Someone will know. perhaps the pills were give a number code that only the person who made the pills knows. Then at the end of the experiment, everyone finds out the number on their pill represents the placebo or real medicine.
I’m the double blinded test, neither the patients nor the doctors know which groups the patients are and placebo or treatment they are receiving. Then who knows?
Yeah but Nocebo and Placebo are both the same effect in principle. The only distinction is essentially whether we appreciate the results or not, but says nothing whatsoever about the underlying psychogenic mechanisms.
IF only they would do this to test the safety and efficacy of vaccines... Sadly, pharmaceutical companies production of vaccines (unlike every other industry) have NO liability and therefore no incentive to do ANY safety studies.
@@wetbread4243 this is how antivaxxers attack vaccines.. they try to pin side effects as caused by the vaccine because the efficacy of vaccines it's not questioned.
Correct. On a tangentially oblique note, to the best of my knowledge, there exists no evidence suggesting any distinctions with respect to the implicit psychogenic mechanisms.
@@mehtabalishahpuffgoawayplease They have to be aware that this is possible, otherwise it is unethical. Most research subjects sign extensive forms acknowledging that they're aware they might get the fake treatment. And they agree to this all the time. :-)
It just depends on what intervention you're testing. For example, we will never have double-blinded randomized trials for smoking being causally associated with lung cancer since it is considered unethical to deliberately bring potential death or great suffering to a person simply as collateral in pursuit of more articulate knowledge. edit grammar
You are officially my math tutor! I'm so glad I found you two weeks ago!
Thank you for your comment :)
Note that you are delighting young minds of the world with excellent conceptual explanations. STAY BLESSED!!!!
Thank you so much for your comment, Alem!
This is one of the best explanations I have ever had on placebo treatment. Keep it up
Thank you for your comment! It inspires me to keep making more videos. Feel free to support me on patreon as it would help me a lot
This was very good and clear thanks

This might be a stupid question, but if the experimenters don't know who got what, then who does know? How do they know what the results are at the end of the experiment if they don't know who got what?
I dont know but I suppose there must be someone from outside the experiment that help the researchers with that
hhhhh i had the same question ....Its a smart question not stupid bro
Ah usually there's a qualified third party that is authorized to know which group is which and such and only tells the researchers the results after the experiment is over.
You have to understand more.
There will be a guide for the researcher. He known that what pill has given to whom .
Thank you very much!! I'm having a problem with my science book. If only you didn't help me I might throw my science book away!
Even though the pill may present a statically significant result do you still have to demonstrate the reason why the change occurred?
good video, dude
thanks
Question, if there is a double-blind method, how can we then analyse the results? Asking because I have an exam this Monday. Great explanation btw.
I'm assuming that there's probably another person who knows who was given what

What the point of a placebo if you are going to get the same result?
just like vaccine trial right?
Hey Man, u r awesome, which software do you use to make this?
This was great, thank you
perfect explanation!
What's the difference between a blind experiment and a double blind experiment?
Thanks man but also ppl get stronger quicker and sum not so much so u have to factor that in too
Believing something will work doesn't actually make it work... the placebo definition was messing with me a little bit.
Thanks!

Actually, there's a different word for having a negative reaction to something simply because you believe you were going to; the nocebo effect.
Correct.
On a tangentially oblique note, to the best of my knowledge, there exists no evidence suggesting any distinctions with respect to the implicit psychogenic mechanisms.
I saw an ASAP Science video where they, in a clause, mentioned that a double blind experiment might some times be unethical. Why is that?
Fakit the patient being tested may need the actual treatment but don't get it while expecting to.
