I really enjoyed this one! I hope you guys will have a chance to interview Grant Morrison as well. Maybe some good artists like Frank Quitely, Paul Pope, or JRJR too. Keep up the awesome job! You guys are cool!
Fantastic interview and I honestly could have watched another hour of that especially with Mark going through his collection. I did find it kind of funny though that Mark talked about his entire career and never once mentioned Grant Morrison. I know they had a falling out years ago but he was the guy who took him under his wing and got him in at 2000 AD and DC and helped him form a lot of his earlier works. Just seemed like an odd ommision.
Jim Shooter had intended for the New Universe to be a Marvel relaunch, much in the same vain as what eventually became the Ultimate Marvel line. Shooter wanted a big budget for the anniversary stunt and he intended to recruit some expensive talent as well. Just imagine if he had gotten the green light to do Ultimate Marvel in 1986. We could have had guys like Alan Moore and Frank Miller headlining a full-on Marvel relaunch in freaking 1986!! What a missed opportunity...
I was lucky enough to own a comic shop during Mark's rise at Marvel and the founding of Millarworld. It was a great time to read and sell comics. His passion for comics shines through here, great interview!
Mark Millar man, what a legend. He’s proof there are superstar authors who have a very real understanding that the artist is just as or more important than the writer. Talented, driven, successful & still humble.
Never actually read or watched any Millar interview previous to this one lol. Very good material. Good questions, brilliant answers and some funny moments. Millar reminds a lot of Grant Morrison, idk if it's the accent but the sheer excitement of talking about comics. I could listen to him all day every day. Congrats on the video, guys. Earned a sub!
Oh my gosh, he's wonderful. I had no idea! And he's having a blast and just wants to keep talking and hanging out. You guys bring the best out of people!
Such a entertaining, and enlightening chat with Mark, makes me really get where he is coming from, it's great to hear his passion for comics, which really jives well with Ed and Jim's. Hope to see Mark return for a chat in the future.
SWAMP THING was my Millar gateway drug (didn't know about WHO'S WHO); remember picking up each issue and followed his amazing , twisted roads! Love the Millar on Miller discussion! And the look at the heart of the Millarworld empire was grand! It's amazing how far he's come ( remember AZTEC ?) Cannot wait to see what the future holds! Yet another grand interview, Gentlemen! Millar is right!🖖
I've never been a big fan of Millar's writing, but this interview really makes me like him, and let's me understand where he's coming from as a person. Thanks.
the guys you get to talk they can feel your energy and profound admiration, they really open up, its a real journey inside the greatest creators' methods!!! I'm learning A LOT WITH the last interviews, wow
great interview! I graduated from the Kubert School a while back and totally remembered doing those 3 magician pages from Fernando’s class! I had no idea till Ed said it that it was a Millar’s script! haha, so cool. I mostly follow comic artists and there’s not a lot writers that I follow, but Millar’s is one of the few writers where I’ve enjoyed pretty much everything I’ve read of his. It’s nice to see and hear that he seems like a genuine nice and grounded guy as well!
People forget and I certainly havent, like Millar said, you can't do a solid comic without the right artist to do it. A lot of people take that for granted, but the art still tells half the story. Smart man. Edit: I forgot to say, good work guys. You have never ever let me down and dont fucking stop for any reason whatsoever, ever! lol
Goddamn, guys. Great interview. It's weird to hear Millar refer to himself as a fanboy, I think the thing that marks him out among so many modern creators (and I'm using modern to mean 90s onwards) is his ability to look at projects from more of an outsider perspective. He throws in stuff that comics fans love but always has a logline or high concept that appeals to new or casual readers. To this point, I've been a fan of his efforts to elevate and promote probably more than I am his writing. The UK magazine he launched, CLiNT, was audacious in its aims. Bringing NSFW comics to supermarket and newsagent shelves, with articles to promote further investigation into the comics world. It was an outreach program disguised as a 'yoof culture' mag. Last point: his reaction to American Flagg was exactly how I felt when I read Marshal Law aged 10. My running around the playground pretending to be The Sleepman and terrifying the girls is exactly what Wertham warned us about.
Dudes, what a a great interview!! All dudes involved. You know I read Millar's stuff and I like it, I am more along the lines of Ultimate X-men. But when I heard him talk today, i didn't realize how motivational he was, and practical, man he can speak. He should def make more videos. I mean he speaks professionally and orders his thoughts very well. Man you guys did a great interview, it's flowing seamlessly now, just one thing to another without even knowing we made a transition, it's good. I think Mark should come along on some of y'alls interviews, y'all 3 work together really well, it didn't seem like interview, it seemed like guys hashing ideas together. Too cool!
Such a great interview. Learned a lot about Millar and his work/collaborators that I did not know about. He's a very good storyteller and his enthusiasm was touching. I'll admit his work on Civil War soured me on him, but it's undeniable that the story had a huge impact on the industry. Several things stood out: a) His 50/50 split between him and artist, extending up to an exec producer credit. Him even respecting that split when Millarworld was sold! So great to see the dude have such respect for his collaborators. b) Had no idea he was such a prankster. His Bendis story had me laughing so hard my stomach hurt. c) Didn't know he was such a fanboy. I thought his work showed some detachment for the characters and superheroes in general. Now I realize it's not out of a cynical outlook, but more of an effort to make comics accessible to as many people as possible.
I'm not into comics but more sort of creative entrepeneurship and this is a f*cking goldmine. This is the way it is done. People who f*cking love this shit talking to each other. Greatful for the channel and for Mark Millar being so open & honest. Nurturing!

Morrison co- wrote a lot of the early Millar stuff, and even ghost- wrote an issue of his Authority! He really owns him his career.
Good point. Millar forgets Morrison a lot
The Unfunnies is one of my favourite meta comics. I think its really clever and just stunning
Its so fucking cool to see how enthusiastic he still is about comics. Great interview guys!

Looks like Mark lives in a castle! Jeez, how big is that room? You can hear an echo!

Guys. I love you both, thanks for landing these interviews. You're doing it, so so right. Thank you.
I highly recommend Starlight with art by Goran Parlov along with Jupiter's Legacy by Frank Quitely. I love both of those series!
Jabba thanks for this recommend. Must’ve passed under my radar, already ordered a tp copy online
I really hope that one day well get the movie for "Starlight " with Stallone as Duke McQueen. He would be so freggin perfect.
Check out Empress by Stuart Immonen.

Holy crap, such a good interview with so many valuable takeaways!
I've never been a big fan of Millar's writing, but this interview really makes me like him, and let's me understand where he's coming from as a person. Thanks.
starting character writing in comics with sketches seems to be a sound way to develop them in a visual medium.

One of the BEST episodes! God I love this show.
You guys are on fire with all these shoot interviews. Keep up the great work!
Absolutely fantastic interview. Really thoughtful and compelling. Millar is as passionate about comics as you guys, and it shows!
Incredible interview. Thanks for the inspiration.

What a fun interview! This i why your channel is the best, comics bringing people together to chat it up and talk about why comics are the best.
Wow what a great interview!
Awesome interview guys keep em coming!
What a great interview...you guys killed it!!

I felt like I was on drugs after this interview! Best one so far!

I remember when Millar perpetuated a hoax about an unfilmed Batman film starring Gregory Peck in an old comics column he wrote waaaay back in the day.
Great Interview.
I really hope that one day well get the movie for "Starlight " with Stallone as Duke McQueen. He would be so freggin perfect.
Man this was a legendary interview! I’m so fired up right now!
