    Rest in peace, Kenny. I really miss you and your reviews and informational videos on airguns. I still watch your videos on your channel. I refer others to do the same. I'm thinking of buying a new Crosman Vantage, so here I am watching this video again. I always valued your opinion, your knowledge, and your shooting skills. You lost your fight with cancer. I'm right in the middle of mine. Kenny always gave a solid no-BS review of an airgun, and I liked that he reviewed lots of inexpensive ones for those of us that can't afford the high end stuff.

    To Kenny’s family - sincerest condolences. Absolutely LOVED his videos. In this one, I learned about the longer screw trick - that info is priceless. He will be sorely missed...

    A good optic cleaning ( 4 times) made a big improvement in clarity for a 4-32 scope. Ajustments windage and elevation work spot on. No peralix problem. This Center Point is a good air rifle scope.

    I have this rifle in both .22 & .177. Both are tack drivers. especially at this price point. I did the trigger screw and RC bearing mod to both. As for the scope. I found that if you unscrew the objective lens ring then focus the scope. they are fine. My .177 needed almost 2 1/2 turns out. I only used a small punch to hold the lens ring, to make sure the focus didn't change while tightening the lock ring. If it moves in the future (I already have over 500 rounds through it) I will refocus and locktite it in place. For a 4X30 scope, they really aren't that bad. I am using a Barksa 3-12X40 AO on the .22. Like all air guns they do differ. My .177 liked the 7-8 grain pellets best. I still miss my old RWS Model 45, nut this gun has more power and is just as accurate. I can't wait to take it hunting. The RWS Super H Points should work wonders on bunnies.

    Thank you Kenny.....reviewing the rifles at this price break is important and shows that higher prices don't equate to better quality of shots or workmanship.

    Kenny, I got my new Crossman Vantage NP a couple of weeks ago and I did the RC bearing mod to the trigger. The rifle really shoots nice thanks to your trigger mod! Thank you! The pellets the rifle likes so far are the Ruger pointed pellets from Walmart. I tried the Crossman Hollow Points and they don't seem to be as accurate. I have a variety of pellets on order to try out. I know this rifle will be a nice and quiet squirrel getter! Mines a .22 caliber. Thanks a bunch for a nice thoughtful review on this rifle.

    I did exactly what you said you would do as far as sanding down the stock when i got mine from walmart this spring. I didn't stain it i just put many coats of lacquer on it then a fine wet sand and then a good polish and boy is it pretty. Good review btw.

    He makes a good point on people returning because of bad scopes. When I was looking at reviews people were giving the gun 1-3/5 because of the scope being useless

    Always enjoy your videos because you're blunt and honest. You're my go-to airgun reviewer before I buy another gun. Also have this gun but with a spring power plant and it's excellent. I did just pick up a Benjamin Prowler Nitro Piston for $79.99 from Academy and I like it better than my Vantage springer. It has a synthetic stock but its solid peice of plastic, so heavy like wood. The stock mold fits like a glove, balances better, and just has a better feel. It doesn't have open sights though. I suspect it's the same gun as yours with different configuration. It averaged 1003 ft/s with extreme spread of 12ft/s with CPHP 7.9gr. I'm sure it would do better with better pellets, but accuracy was great at 15 yards (dime size). Anyways, just wanted to share another gem of an air rifle around $80 in a different configuration.

    Ad always, Great review Kenny.
    I have one of the Vantage spring models in .22 and it is a very accurate and hard hitting little rifle with several pellet types.
    I did the RC bearing mod. to trigger a couple years ago and it made a world of difference.
    I have taken legal to take invasive species dove beyond 60yds with the rifle which delivers a silid thump and instant kill at that range on those large pigeon size doves.
    this gun shoots just as accurately as some of my much more expensive Hatsan Vortex and spring powered rifles and is lighter to tote around.
    I'll have to get one wirh the NP power plant now and see if mine is as good as the one you reviewed here.
    Thanks again, for the excellent videos.

    Crosman counts on people thinking the cheaper guns are inaccurate and springing for the more expensive guns. If they improved their cheaper line of guns they would lose revenue on the higher end models. Only smart people benefit by knowing how to install and sight in a proper scope.

    Thank you for this very well-explained and thorough review. I am going to buy one based on your review. I would appreciate it if you give the exact model # of the Leaper UTG 4x32 scope you recommended and the best place to buy it from. For this rifle, I am willing to spend up to around $40 for a better scope.

    Hi Kenny, thanks for this amazing gun test, but imagine what this gun could do accuracy wise, when rested with a proper soft bag resting method !
    Also all that drilling debris going down the trigger housing apparently worked wonders with the trigger mechansim, LOL !

    I think I may have a good test for 2 or 3 different break barrel guns. It has to do with the gun stand. I would love to see a good accuracy test with the front of the gun resting the stock on the stnad, against the muzzle of the gun resting on the stand. For a break barrel gun, I think the rest, or bi-pod close to the muzzle will get better groups, as it will help assure "full lock" for a break barrel gun,---IMO.

    Interestingy, Kenny talks about Crosmans junk 4x32 Centerpoint scope, and asks why they bother to include it. They still sell the .177 caliber Vantage with that scope for about $109. But, they sell the .22 Vantage for $90.75 without a scope. I'm considering getting the .22 Vantage. I have enough .177 brake barrels.

    Awesome review Kenny and your right it's good to have a good .177 around and at that price point ya just can't beat it. Kenny I want your opinion I liked your review on the Beeman Dual caliber in Nitro Piston but which gun is the most accurate and out of the two guns if you had to choose one which would you choose to keep?

  • @fsdarrell

    Great review. These guns have such great potential; it’s a shame that Crosman puts such bad triggers and scopes on them. I have an Optimus 1000 which is identical to the Vantage. I swapped in a GTX II trigger (like the Charlie da Tuna) and added a Bushnell Trophy 3-9X scope - much, much better. I recently installed a Nitro Piston conversion kit from scopesandammo.com. I find the rifle is just as powerful, but smoother to shoot and doesn’t require as much of the “Artillery Hold” to shoot accurately now that the big steel spring is gone.

    Crosman makes 3 or 4 NP rifles in that $100 or less range. Is the Nitro pack the same on them all? Are you just paying for the different stocks and barrels? Thanks to anyone who knows. Nice review.

    Is it true that a break barrel air rifle optimum length barrel is 10" ? After that the pellet slows down ?

    • @myairgunreviews
      @myairgunreviews  7 лет назад

      That's the Minimum length. I think Optimum is 15". Anything longer can drag the pellet speed down.

    • @HarryWebb46
      @HarryWebb46 7 лет назад

      Unless I was properly trained I wouldn't attempt it. I have seen several stocks revarnished and none of them were really that well done. The factory will use professional sprayers which is why it's almost impossible to improve with a home kit style.
