    I think part of the difference is Joe is used to shooting a fwb300, where putting pellets in the same hole at 25 meters is the standard. To shoot that gun well also requires scopes that are also excellent. Walmart sells fun guns, decent accuracy, good value, but nobody is going to win accuracy competitions with those guns against high end airguns.

    I miss Kenny and his no-nonsense reviews of low priced airguns. He had an adequate knowledge of his subject, and always gave us the real deal as he saw it because purchased the guns he reviewed with his own cash. Therefore he wasn’t beholden to any one company. I didn’t always agree with his findings, but I respected the fact he was putting his opinions to public domain, expecting criticism and Evan ridicule from a minority of his viewing audience. Rest easy friend.

    Luv you pumpin out the vids Kenny. Up here in the great white north i got a Crosman phantom .22 from Walmart. Did the piston mod (only 495fps in Canada) and your trigger fix and can stack pellets all day long. Personally i would rather tune a cheap gun to kick ass than buy an expensive rifle. Its a hobby just like building models. When you are done its unique to you. Not a carbon copy that everyone owns!! And the look on their eyes when a $200 rifle out shoots a $600 gun is priceless. Keep it old school Kenny!!

    I like this guy. Shame to see by the comments that he has passed on.
    Here’s my 2p, no one ever started in this hobby with a $2500 PCP custom air rifle being their first airgun. Most started out with a Red Rider, crossman combo bb/pellet, or some other inexspensive unit from Sears, Kmart, Walmart, or the local General Store. Don’t sleep on the Walmart guns. Some of them are very fine and reliable shooters. Big money doesn’t always mean “must buy.” I love that Kenny told it like it is and wasn’t one of these airsnobs. RIP Brother.

Same thing with Guns or anything else, it's the snobs that can't handle it.

    If I'm understanding you right, the Ruger Air Hawk shoots accurately after a number of rounds down range. I bought one a few years back and shot maybe 25-30 rounds through it and it wouldn't group for anything. I stuck it away in a closet and there it sits. I shot a friends RWS and the accuracy was awesome. I had planned on buying one, but if this closet case Ruger will shoot, I'll give it another chance. Thanks!

    • @larsonfam3861
      @larsonfam3861 6 лет назад

      Buddy Fuentes the airhawks are the easiest air rifle to strip down and tune, the trigger is not a brain twister puzzle, and it all cleans up real nice. Strip that thing down and tune it up, round and polish the end of the trigger adjustment screw especially! chamfer the loading bore a little, make sure the oring at the breech is nice and proud, and you will be blown away by that airhawk. They are great guns, super simple and solid and really nice looking, just need those finishing touches.

  • @regsparkes6507
    @regsparkes6507 5 лет назад +3

    Actually, and Kenny is correct in what he said about Umarex,...they now own the greater number of 'air gun manufacturers and brand names ' out there. It's like Marlin and Remington rifles ( and perhaps others too ) these are owned by a 'bean counter' group of moneymen,....so Companies are like any other commodity that are bought and sold,....
    The best Air Gun to buy is the one that meets your budget and has the most positive things said about it.
    Enjoy the hobby and shoot safely!.

    Kenny, I've picked up 5 or 6 breakbarrel springers at Walmart and some of them have been closeouts and clearance so I got "better than good" prices, but they were all available elsewhere , just as you stated, at higher prices, even stacked against Walmart's regular pricing. And for the most part they have been worth more than I paid. I like Joe's channel but he was just wrong putting any of this on Walmart. Walmart in general catches a lot of hell, but if their deep discounts went away the most anti China among us would be pissin' and moanin' about the "good ol' days" when we could get a 500 count tin of Crosman HP pellets for sub $7. Thanks for speaking out on this issue. I know your health has been bad lately and I really hope you get better. The airgun world would be less without your "common man" take on things.

    I've owned high end and low end break-open spring piston rifles and pistols for years. The main conclusion I've come to is that it boils down to the individual firearm and the user. I own a Diana Model 34 in .177, and a Beeman Webley Vulcan in .22. I've owned Crosmans and Gamos, Daisies and Rugers. They've all had benefits and drawbacks. We're not talking about real data here, we're talking about personal preference. It's all good info.

    My comment is for the maker of this video which I very much enjoyed. I have a pellet gun I bought when I was around fifteen at the local Canadian Tire. I live in Quebec. It is a Ruko Gamo, made in Spain. This particular air rifle is 495 fps. In Canada, or at least Quebec if your pellet gun does better than 500 fps you need an firearms aquisition certificate. It has the safety in front of the trigger, So it can be on right up until you want to shoot. You just push it forward and safety is off. A decent set of sights and a tube magazine that 26 flat head only, pellets. Well, I had three boys and My youngest in particular seems to have super human strength. He breaks almost everything he touches. This rifle had a plate for lack of a better word, that when you cocked the rifle, the plate would come up. When you closed the rifle the plate would come down and a pellet would load into the hole in the plate . When closed the hole would line up with the barrel and the hole where the compressed air comes out to make the pellet go. One of these days I'm going to take out my scroll saw and cut myself out a new piece but for now the piece that stopped that plate from just falling out got broken the first time I let him use it. You mentioned that Ruko wasn't really good on quality control and the seals were kind of not good. The next time I tear it down I'm going to check that. It always seemed pretty consistent, still to this day. Well, if I could shoot it. Maybe the quality was better back in the early 80's? Late 70's. ? I know I paid 178.00 plus tax and the 22 was 69.00. I mean A real 22 not a pellet gun. Anyway I hope I got you interested. I've been trying to buy the parts to fix it and I'm just going to make them myself and save the hassle. The company never got back to me and didn't even have any info on my model. Thank you again for a great posting.

    Proud Walmart gamo swarm maxxim w/3×9×40 gamo scope 177cal. And I can drive tacs at 30 ft all day hands down the best air rifle I've ever had. The trick to the gun is finding a pellet that the gun likes in my case I've found the crossman gold flight 8.5gr 177cal. They have devastating effects on small game.. I've never been so happy with a airgun. Next stop the crossman f-4

    Some long distance stats with my $85 Crosman F4 and $35 Winchester 4x30 scope from Walmart....Gun is great with 20 meter plinking too of course. Makees you say mmmmm about $300 guns.
    45 meters: Hit and penetrated crawfish tray 6/6 shots and made about a 6" grouping!
    70 meters: Hit and penetrated crawfish tray 3/3 shots and made about a 10" grouping!

    I thank you for this video Sir. Although I live in the UK where we don't have Walmart we do have a very large supplier here who specialise in low/mid price air weapons and I and others who I shoot with would completely agree on the points you have raised (especially about those awful Shark pellets). One cannot start talking about Rugers, Dianas , Gamos or even our own beloved BSAs unless you know (as you obviously do) who really makes them ! There is so much ignorance about air weapon manufacturers these days and I was very happy to see you explode quite a few myths. Well done ! :-)

    may not be the place to post this but here goes I bought a Ruger Blackhawk Elite from Amazon refurbished for $59.99 maybe being refurbished fixed the problems you talked about I am impressed by the gun didn't like the scope so I bought a CVLIFE 4x32 Tactical Rifle Scope Red & Green &Blue illuminated Reticle Scope with Fiber Optic Sight I would give it 4 out of 5 stars because it needs batteries other than that the price " I'm cheap " lol $47.99 but then you get what you pay for I have it set up the way I like it and thats what matters keep up the good reviews and thanks

    Ken I bought the legacy got it home and after taking the 3rd shot the gun failed to shoot after resetting the bolt multiple times it finally discharged, I took it back to Walmart. Went back to the sporting goods dept. and after looking I saw tucked in the back locked case a F4 I asked the clerk how much is this one? 79.00 he said, I said I'll take it!! After I got home I set it up with a 4 X 32 Bushnell... This gun is awesome, after sighting it in 5 shot groups at 25ft inside a quarter!! I can't believe Walmart here in Green Bay still had a F4 for 79.00, while in the top cabinet it was 109.00 I admit I was a bit worried about the 2 stage trigger But I'll watch your video on how to adjust it so it has a lighter pull... sighted it in and on Sunday morning from my window overlooking my backyard garden I saw a rabbit in the garden munching away on my veggies. I got the F4 from my computer room loaded it with a Crossman Premier pointed 7.4gr pellet. I carefully lowered the screen took aim for the head shot and let loose, the rabbit will munch no more. Upon impact the rabbit collapsed the kill was instantaneous. I'm estimating the shot was between 15 to 20ft. away, when I went to retrieve the rabbit there was a lot of blood and both entrance and exit wound told the story of a accurate shot and clean kill. So glad I decided on the Crossman F4... Very affordable and very effective! I know it was a short range shot but I'm confident it will be lethal to 25yrds IMO on rabbits & squirrels.

    FPS doesnt = accuracy. Most advertised FPS is with the lightest pellets in that particular caliber. anything over 900FPS gets squirrelly above 20 yards. Like everything else you get what you pay for.

      Only things that love speed are slugs, need over 950fps to really stabilize them.

    • @ralphmowery2898

      You should stay below the speed of sound or above it all the way to the target. If not the pellet gets upset by the breaking of the sound barrier shock wave.

    There is nothing wrong with Walmart Airguns or their real firearms. Most of the time what's wrong with the gun is the one that's shooting it. Too many people buy guns and they don't know a damn thing about them. Everybody thinks their an expert and a lot of them have had no real training with a firearm.

    Get yourself a Bear River Sportsman 900 .177 multi-pump air rifle. For $60-$80, It is an incredible gun. Using H&N Barracuda and Silver Point pellets, I consistently hit a 2" target between 40-50 yards using a red dot sight. I have shot thousands of rounds with it since I purchased it last winter and there is no noticeable decrease in compression due to the o-rings wearing out. For the $, you can't lose. I never heard of it before running across it online by accident. Check it out.

    Hey Kenny, I watched the same videos. Now, I'm not a high end air gunner, but I enjoy target shooting in my backyard. When Joe talked about never buying scopes in blister packs, I was like, but I have two and I have never had any problems with them. I also have the Umarex NXG, which he said to avoid. I bought it at Wal-Mart without the scope and put one of those blister pack scopes on it. I haven't had any problems with either of them. I enjoy the videos, keep them coming!

    Its good to see an old school ol boys stating the facts for the kids. I must say you absolutely know exactly what you are talking about as I have had about the exact same ball of wax you are talking right here. I had my 1st BB gun when I was 6 years old. I was taught safety 1st with that Daisy lever action bb gun. I went hunting with my Father and i carried that BB gun (it was much cooler than the stick he made me carry prior to that) LOL. Yea I was not going to kill any Pheasants, Rabbits, Deer or anything else with that gun but my Father taught me safety with that BB gun. Yes I still have that gun to this day and it cocks and shoots every time. I have been around guns my entire life and by God I know safety like no other. The reason for the long winded story is "kids now days think they know it all and have their opinion of everything and dont give a damn if they steer people off the correct path" This is my opinion and only my opinion but I would bet Dollars to Doughnuts that most of the old boys like my self and you would agree. If you did not agree you would not have made this video. (Can I get an Amen?) When I turned 11 years old my Father bought me a brand new H&R 20 GA. single shot and he knew that that was the right time to give me that shotgun because he taught me safety 1st. Yep I am almost done LOL. In 1984 the day after I got out of high school @ 17 years old (my Dad signed the approval paperwork) I was on my way to Marine Corps Boot camp. I had been in the delayed entry program for 9 months. By God himself I found out just how smart my Father actually was and just how little the punk kid that I was previously did not have a clue about. This country would not be as F'ed up as it is if kids would just learn to shut their trap ad open their ears. Yea I went way off track but I think the bottom line is there.

    I agree with everything u said. I have a whisper fusion elite which is 1 of my favorite guns. I bought the swarm maxxim in .177 and it shoots hard but only likes 2 pellets. Rws super point and crosman pointed. I tried 15 or 16 different ones and those r the only 2 is shoots straight. I also have the .22 and it loves at least 8 different pellets. They both jam with cheap Daisy pellets but besides that the magazine has worked great. U really should get the .22 swarm maxxim it's a fun gun to shoot. My crosman tr77s np will hit the claims with ease and my Benjamin np xl 725 and 1100 might not hit their marks but come close and shoot hard as hell. I have also bought 3 scopes in bubble packaging from wal-mart with no problems. That's just the manufacturer trying to save a few bucks. Keep up the reviews and thank u for sharing ur knowledge with us.

    I've got a Gamo Varmint that I made some videos about that shoots surprisingly well and of course my Swarm Maxim .22 does quite well too. However I experimented on polishing the barrel riffling in it to discover it is shooting even faster with lead pellets. About 770fps and PREDATOR ALLOY moving more than 850fps accuracy is still great too being zeroed at 35 yards and sometimes even at 50. not too bad after over 1000 pellets . A couple drops of silicone oil in the chamber to keep the seal from losing pressure also really seems to bring out the best in the gun . Even compared to hw95 it only pushing around 695 fps. I think the seal is wearing out cause I could remember being able to push over 730fps with 15.4 grain H&N match pellets

    Walmart online has free shipping to your address or in-store pick up on orders over $35. The Diana model would be even less costly when making your purchase thru Wal-Mart's website.
    Also, I bought the Crosman SNR 357 Revolver for $49.95+tax thru Walmart.com. In-store price is $20 more, which is about the same price at other local stores.

    An enjoyable, factual, retort :) With spring piston or strut powered airguns, its all about what you, as a shooter, put in it. I believe that those mechanically enclined could tune almost any of these break barrels air rifles to outperform their factory set limitations. Whatever the price tag ... its about how much time you want to spend tuning your platform, and learning how to shoot it with its favourite fodder. Thank you for your video, your sensible comments, and your relaxed approach.

    my experience at walmarts. i bought a beeman with changeable barrels. 22 and 177. nice gun shot great very very accurate.bought a benjamin titan. there was some kind of issue with the safety. so i took it back. didnt want money back just trade it for one with a working safety. nope, no way, policy is once you pay for a airgun its yours.so i had a dangerous airgun.i ended up replacing the safety myself. sure glad no one got hurt with it. would of hated suing walmarts for a few million or so. i dont shop there. so many bad experiences there. but lots of other places not only sell these same airguns but cheaper too. and if theres a problem, you can send it back! :)

    I've bought two Gamo air rifles from Walmart. The silent cat springer had a few minor problems but is quite accurate if you know how to use it. Part of the problem may have been that I clipped the silencer off the end because it was not needed. The bone collector .22 I got is very good. Mine has no silly silencer on the front. If you tighten the scope mount hardware and get her dialed in with the bushnell scope I installed she is very accurate and powerful. It's a bubble pack bushnell. I think maybe I got lucky and got a good Gamo both times. I've no way to judge quality over many rifles the way you have. I don't doubt the lack of skilled assembly you've described.
