The red team will never be able to see this with an objective view - but the referee actually did a really good job and the large majority of his decisions were correct. The straight red was absolutely right as well.
Not to mention that two legged slide tackle he only gave a yellow, whereas that's a straight red as well, normally. Red team just needs to get their shit together.

As an amateur league referee, this game looks similar to the standard that I officiate at - so my view of what occurred is: Blue #13 comes in with a clumsy challenge, standing on the red player's foot. Definite free kick - referee is in the perfect position to see the incident, and make the call. Small case for a yellow card, but not warranted due to how the rest of the game has been officiated, and how both teams play. The red player who went down starts acting an injury. (Simple note - if you're ever actually injured - your body will not physically allow you to make theatrical movements, your body's natural urge is to stop moving. See the tackle at 14:08 for an example of this, a fair tackle - but the ref stops the game quickly, as he believes an actual injury might have occurred). Anyway, red #15 comes out of position to "help out" the referee and explain why he was wrong. He, obviously, uses some disrespectful language - gets a yellow card for dissent. Personally, I'm a big fan of doing this. All referees explain their limits, to both teams, before a game. After you book one player for dissent, 21 other players know where the line is and they hold back their own unneeded opinions..... Next comes the sending off. Through the side camera replay, we can see that the red player is communicating with someone other than the referee. We can see the referee is giving the player a chance, telling him to calm it down, or stop it. The red player can be seen ignoring this, to which the referee issues a direct red card! In my entire career, as a referee, I've only ever sent one player off, directly, for a verbal-only altercation - so what he said must have been pretty serious. The only official reason that he can issue the sending off is for "using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures". We can't hear what was said - but if any physical threats were made, then that is a definite cause for a straight red. I believe the player might have already had a yellow card - so even a lesser offense would have seen him get a yellow, then a red. Interestingly, there is a difference, that most couch supporters wouldn't know. Even at low levels, the referee needs to fill out reports when he issues yellow/red cards - explaining what was done, and why, to the local FA. Fines are generally handed out to the players as punishment (yes, the punishment doesn't end on the pitch). Getting a red card for two cautionable offenses is much less serious than getting a straight red card. Anything involving off-the-ball violence, or threats thereof, would always involve a panel sitting, where the referee would have to turn up and give his viewpoint of what happened (I hated doing this - it's a waste of my evening AND we don't get any remuneration for it), then the player would come in and hear his elevated punishment. It's not like a court, the player does not appear with the referee and cannot cross-examine him. He's there to hear his punishment and that's it. Players/club can contest rulings - but rarely do so at the lower level. If such a ruling is not overturned, then the club are penalised further. So, I found it interesting to read, in the comments, that this incident was contested and the player won! Overall, I think that the referee here had a very good game. Few little calls that I might have done differently - but he had a closer view than me, in all cases, versus my advantage of being able to replay them!

The problem here stems from the referee's earlier decision where he decided that the offence at 4:24 was worthy of a straight red when a yellow would have been sufficient. Early overreactions like these often make life even more complicated for referees because all players (rightly) proceed to judge every decision against the earlier one. Therefore, the red card at 4:24 should have been a yellow which would have made the decision to either give a yellow or no card at 9:20 much easier. For me, it's worthy of a yellow but I can understand no card. (The pain inflicted by having many players' studs stamped on my foot like that perhaps makes me a bit biased.) For the subsequent sending off - the player who was originally fouled seemed to be telling the referee at 10:11, "You can see my foot after the game." The referee clearly understood this as a threat resulting in immediately showing a red. It's difficult to even call this an overreaction because that would imply a yellow or a verbal warning would be ok. Instead, this is purely the result of either the referee mishearing or misunderstanding the player. The player was implying that once the referee saw the visual marks of the opponent's studs on his foot he would realize his mistake of not booking the opponent. My guess is that the referee heard, "You can see me after the game." If that's the case, then it's the referees mistake for mishearing. If he indeed heard the player correctly then he should have either simply ignored this comment (always my recommendation) or told the player he saw the opponent stamp on his foot but because he was playing the ball and indeed touched the ball before landing on his foot the best he could do was award a foul.
A lot of the calls that the red team were arguing the ref was correct. For example the advantage and offside call. Too bad they will never see this video.
William Forsberg thats exactly how you call advantage. You give it, if it doesn’t workout shortly after giving it, you come back to original foul. Ref did great except that first red card was inappropriate. That was yellow. He definitely had a chip on his shoulder for the Serbian team. But they did nothing to help themselves. Just STFU & play. But Serbs don’t know how to do that.
The goalkeeper makes a good point about the assistant not being even with the 2nd to last defender (appeared to be offside), but make your point and move on...don't belabor the point and be civil. In Serbian, one of the defenders says "He (the Center Referee) has it in for us". As a second yellow is being given for dissent, one guy is finally the voice of reason and says in Serbian "Leave him alone". The referee handled the game very well and didn't allow himself to be intimidated. Overall, he officiated a fair match and seems to better than the other ones I've seen in these videos. The straight red was well deserved for the kick in the Achilles. There was no attempt to get the ball and the sole purpose was to injure.
Totally agree, the Serbians let themselves down big time is this game, the ref set the level he wanted to game to be played at no one listened to him and he was consistent. The captain deserved a red card for how he acted and that was a foul he committed to win that foul to he wanted more and got himself sent off.
What I find especially ironic/amusing is that some of the few errors that I saw this ref make were interrupting advantage of the blue team to issue a card to a Serbian player. (You wait until the next natural stoppage to go back and issue the card.)

At 9:50 / 17:34 That would be a Red if not a yellow, but sadly since there is no VAR, you can't replay what we saw as spectators. Just always keep in mind that the 3 refs aren't always able to see every little thing.
What? Where did you hear that? Often times, players will be courteous and return the ball back to the team that had control when the whistle was blown, but there is no such thing as an "uncontested" drop ball.
Some of the tackling was apalling. The referee did what he's suppose to do and adjudicate as he sees it. For me the buck stops with both the managers. They allowed their teams to kick lumps out of the opposition, no skill or ability in any of that brand of football they are coaching. They are to blame for not enforcing respect for the ref, he was just doing his job, and the players themselves should show respect for the badge they're playing for. Both teams are better than that.
Aggressivity and having a low level of football skills is a disaster in a low league football game. THat red team needs to calm down before someone gets seriously injured. People have to go to work the next morning.
I played in the over 30 league in Contra Costa County California. It never got this bad. No team fights either. A red card was rare too. I also played in a latino league that was some unscrupulous dirty playing. It really depends on the refs not tolerating malicious play.
I've never seen any adults complain so much. they're complaining about literally EVERYTHING!!! there was one point where nothing was even happening and someone on the field yelled foul! Take a second and chill and you might understand why its not a foul. Dont be so quick to jump at the refs throat.
I applaud the ref on that straight red. Yes, it was a bit soft for my liking typically; but that was not a soccer play stabbing at a guy's feet from behind after being dispossessed of the ball. That's how injuries occur; and it's not the ref's job to put up with that so that the numbers can remain even. Come to play soccer without the shenanigans and you don't have to worry so much about going a man down.
Jeeeeeez the ref came in with an agenda. How #13 with the afro for blue escaped a red is beyond me. Guy was flying late into tackles and throwing his body around no different than the other red players who were picking up yellows for seemingly innocuous fouls. Shows how much better red was than blue to still win 2-0 down 2 men most of the game (easily could have been 4-0...they missed two sitters).
Side note thou, blue team is trash. Red is full of Neanderthals that can’t keep their heads. They give you a two player advantage and you cant even score 1. Damn.
It's called "dissent" not "didn't say anything wrong". While most refs rightfully still make allowances, this is not an argument any knowledgeable soccer player should ever be making. If you're barking at the ref, you're "wrong".
The ref was trash, I think some people commenting are getting overexcited because he stood up to a team of whiners but so many of his calls were bizarre, he booked a fair few red players for being fouled and complaining about it, rather than focusing on the player that fouled. Red card calls were correct though.
KV Serbia players endless griping and complaining at the ref when they are winning 2-0; jeez, I wonder what they are like when they are LOSING?!? I havent done an adult rec league game in several years [western portion of Michigan] ... most i ever got was mebbe $55 a game ... sometimes as a 2 man crew, sometimes as a 3 man crew ...
They get paid anywhere from 20-60$ a game, it’s an over 35/40 league game. This isn’t the big leagues buddy 😂 plus the refs they have here are terrible, sure this ref didn’t have a bad game but he’s terrible.

Some of the tackling was apalling. The referee did what he's suppose to do and adjudicate as he sees it. For me the buck stops with both the managers. They allowed their teams to kick lumps out of the opposition, no skill or ability in any of that brand of football they are coaching. They are to blame for not enforcing respect for the ref, he was just doing his job, and the players themselves should show respect for the badge they're playing for. Both teams are better than that.

I played in the over 30 league in Contra Costa County California. It never got this bad. No team fights either. A red card was rare too. I also played in a latino league that was some unscrupulous dirty playing. It really depends on the refs not tolerating malicious play.

I applaud the ref on that straight red. Yes, it was a bit soft for my liking typically; but that was not a soccer play stabbing at a guy's feet from behind after being dispossessed of the ball. That's how injuries occur; and it's not the ref's job to put up with that so that the numbers can remain even. Come to play soccer without the shenanigans and you don't have to worry so much about going a man down.
Jeeeeeez the ref came in with an agenda. How #13 with the afro for blue escaped a red is beyond me. Guy was flying late into tackles and throwing his body around no different than the other red players who were picking up yellows for seemingly innocuous fouls. Shows how much better red was than blue to still win 2-0 down 2 men most of the game (easily could have been 4-0...they missed two sitters).

The ref was trash, I think some people commenting are getting overexcited because he stood up to a team of whiners but so many of his calls were bizarre, he booked a fair few red players for being fouled and complaining about it, rather than focusing on the player that fouled. Red card calls were correct though.
