@@michaelfalkner1186 Unless there were insufficient players to begin the game, there isn't a reason under the laws for a referee to not start a match. No league (in several countries at both amateur and semi-professional levels) I've ever worked for has had a procedure for not starting a game. A referee who abandoned a match based on "I have a bad feeling about this..." would indeed have a very short officiating career.
@@jamesmeacham1305 Unless he felt the match was going to be so violent. I've actually been in park leagues in various sports where it is made clear that certain conduct is expected before you can begin the match.
If he had enough of a feeling, there should've been a procedure to notify either the head of the league or the grounds of trouble and get advice as to whether to proceed with the match.

Ironic to blame a referee for “losing control” when it is the players that had no control of themselves. If the referee had actually called these penalties to the extent said in the Laws of the Game, it would have been a 7 v 7 field. Yeah this happens you you don't make calls and don't set the right tone as a ref. players take it into their own hands and start trying to get even, and see what they can get away with. It just snowballs from there, the ref was absolutely terrible, from missing calls, to not giving out obvious yellow or red cards. Ref lost control of the game, players are to blame as well but when you don't control a game, this is what happens in a competition. I was a ref and a played for many years.
Andrew Smith you’re wrong. The safety of the players is the referee’s responsibility. Call the game off or issue warnings and cards to punish. Referee is the issue.

As a referee myself, I thought the ref was doing a decent job up until the off the ball incident. He needed to be more assertive and the players needed to show some more class.

Add a ref who doesn't give cards on obvious faults and you soon get a game, that not only goes out of hand but also usually leads to injuries. Yes because the referee did not see it and presumably no linesman informed him. You can not rule on what is not seen. Having said that There was a lot of gamesmanship in that game and as someone has already said thevreferee could have done himself a favour by laughing with the players at the innocuous examples of this and telling them to cut it out
My experience as a referee was, as someone has already said, make comments to players that will help to get them on your side. As someone has already said these older guys either get frustrated because they can not do what they used to do while others have never really made it and so play the game to see what they can get away with and to convince themselves that they are winners.

Sebastian Perez yeah, I run the RUclips channel and film the matches for my local football team and the league review the videos here. I occasionally have to edit out fans swearing at or shouting at the ref as a precaution just in case we get into trouble with the league if they believe that it is coming from the bench or coaching team. I wonder if that’s just here in England or whether it happens in other places as well

Football need to adopt some rugby rules: 1. Only Captains can talk to the Referee 2. Touch the Referee, suspension and fine for that player. 3 Verbal abuse of the Referee automatic card for the player 4. Pitch Invaders, banned from game for period. The player conduct in this match was inexcusable and brings the game in to disrepute. Canadian football Association should punish these guys.

Referee here. That look to me like straight red for "Serious Foul Play." Goes way late for the foot stomp and then wild kick to the shins of opponent. Ball is long gone. I think this referee maybe did not play the game at high enough level to realize when fouls are intentional.
When a Coach is Red carded and will not leave the area after the second ask, that is the ball game, especially with that kind of dissent.

The Ref was alright tbh, i am also a referee and he had a couple of 50/50 decisions but at the end of the day he was alright but the players destroyed their own game.

@@WrinklyTraveller I'd say about 50% of the referees that I've seen (refereeing adults at a very low level because that's where I've played and refereed) are considerably worse than this. The referee was not good but he had two teams that were being recorded and were still amongst the worst I have seen. The terrible challenges were bad but the cynical stuff off the ball or when the ball wasn't in play was awful. I assume he was expected to be a bit better than the level of referees I'm used to because this can't be the lowest level game and he wasn't up to it. Almost everyone commentating wouldn't be close to being up to it either.

The No.9 for Aurora Hearts started all this with his over reaction to a slight knock. His play-acting trying to get the opposition cards created a bad atmosphere. Compound that with the poor refereeing, there was only one way for this to go. If the ref had of nipped it in the bud at the start of the game you wouldn’t have this farce. Discipline on both sides was awful but you could see the ref was out of his depth when he kept asking the assistant ref for his opinion. Shocking!!!

This is a great way to show your kids that this is the way to play an organized game I’m sure everyone is very proud they are bunch of animals and of course they blame the ref if I was the ref I would have taken the head of both teams only to the center of the field and told them that red cards will be all I will be pulling from now and if they don’t like it Game over
