People, listen to your gut, it will lead you in the right direction.
Last year, a friend of mine was going through really hard times. She was effectively homeless. She had texted me to meet up and I said I would buy her dinner.
I was sitting in my rental van where she wanted to meet me, and she kept badgering me to go somewhere else to get her. Almost relentlessly bugging me about it. I kept asking her why, she wouldn’t answer. I wouldn’t go and I ended up just heading home.
A few weeks later I learned through a mutual friend that she was diagnosed with extreme schizophrenia a year prior and ended up getting arrested for stabbing somebody several times just a few days after her and I were supposed to meet.
Had I not trusted my gut, I probably would have been hurt, or even worse.

What I find ironic is how much the result of their plan diametrically opposed the intent. They wanted to destroy Brandy, to erase her from their lives and completely annihilate her existence. But in doing what they did, they immortalised her in the memory of everyone nearby and instead of destroying her, they made her into an ideal that no murder could destroy, and all this with their own lives as sacrifice. In a way, they were the architects of their own worst case scenarios.

But even with all the good in my life, I would have given it all away to increase the chances of them getting put in jail.

It wasn't love to begin with. Abusers like her just use others as accessories and punching bags; they use people, rather than love them.
I wonder what made her victim vulnerable to accepting abuse. Most people would walk out the minute it started. When people stay, the abuser feels more and more entitled to them over time, and they feel more "ripped off" and wronged, when they leave. You took their THING from them, when you leave. It's so dangerous to leave once they feel they own you, and abuse victims who stay don't understand that you can never, ever safely go back.

My sister and I are the babies of the family and the only girls.
That, coupled with a “near miss” situation as kids (prompting our move to the USA) our dad was/is especially paranoid about our safety-and some of the best advice he gave all of us kids, about “trusting our gut no matter what,” was…
*”No matter what the situation is, if it REALLY doesn’t feel right-BAIL!! Because it’s better to have a moment of embarrassment, miss out on a potential job/housing/education/romantic opportunity, or to have people possibly think you’re weird and talk shit about you…than for you to be dead and miss out on EVERYTHING!!.”*
I still heed that advice every day.❤️
I hate that it’s a necessity to learn these types of lessons and I wish we lived in a world where beautiful souls like Brandy could still be here and were always m safe.

As many other have said, if you feel something is wrong then turn around and listen to your gut, but also another thing to keep in mind is to be aware of the other person's demeanor. If a person you knew were mad at you, or you knew they were dating someone who didn't like you, and suddenly they invite you over to meet up, then don't go. If you feel like you have to go, make sure you go meet them in a public place and make sure you have someone else with you. It's very suspicious to see someone who dislikes you a lot suddenly turn around and say they want to meet up and make it up to you. That's a huge red flag.

You're one of the only ones in the entire comment section making a point to focus on their sexuality, just saying.
That said, I was also happy with the overwhelmingly positive comment section.

Great, as always Adrian. It's scary that when you get involved with someone, you often don't know right away if their unstable. One sign is a troubled upbringing where they hate their parents. It's definitely a red flag.

    • @koopatroopa187
      @koopatroopa187 2 года назад

Yeah, I don't think hating your parents is a red flag whatsoever. I have a very small circle of friends because I would much rather surround myself with truly beautiful people than have a wide circle of meaningless relationships with people I don't have any real connection with. Some of my friends absolutely hate their parents or hate a parent, and some of my friends love their parents. They have every right to dislike their parents and I don't judge them for it, nor are they violent people. I myself have a very bad relationship with my sister (because she's an awful person and I don't want to be around her); and while I do communicate with my parents (albeit infrequently), I have spent a large portion of my life living overseas because of them. I spent 9 years in a shitty marriage with a woman who both emotionally and physically abused me. I'm pretty sure if I was capable of violence, I'd know that by now. I absolutely do not believe that you can judge a person based entirely off of their relationships with other people. My friend Julie would tell you that I am her all time favorite person, and a lady named Claire told a judge that I was a stalker and sexual predator because she was upset with me that our very short lived relationship didn't go her way and filed a restraining order against me in some weird form of spiting me. My advice is to take all romantic relationships slow, and don't ever feel like you can't just drop someone out of your life.

@@koopatroopa187 Everything has its exceptions. If a parent/s commit heinous crimes, of course you have right to cut them out of your lives, but other than that, you must realize that your parents are the only ones you'll ever have and are faulty human beings like everyone else. We must accept the challenge to forgive them. Siblings and friends are a different story. The point is that when a young person hates their parents over their strictness, divorce, vises they have, etc., you have a person that has a lot of vengeful anger in them. A person who lashes out at anyone who angers them. Being friends with someone like that is not the best choice as this case proves.

@@koopatroopa187 As much as we all hate to admit it, hate and resentment is something we need to conquer. It's a challenge and it's easier to turn your back on challenges, but in the end, it just festers inside you and comes out with hostility or even worse. Even children that had parents who ended-up lifers in prison found that as they aged, they had to make peace with them. Most of us don't understand until it's too late that forgiving people is doing way better for you than for the other person. You have to cleanse that toxin from your body.

Love your content Adrian, but this time around something really resonated with me. Perhaps it's the way you told it or the gentle voice you have but this felt very sentimental. I teared up and really felt like I wanted to be a part of that community who celebrates her every year. The empathy displayed here didn't go unnoticed.

It's truly something special that a youtuber finishes videos on these kinds of subjects with "And stay safe". Showing empathy/concern throughout the video and ending the video on such a thing is just beautiful and I wanted to say that it definitely stands out in the crowd. Thank you for all the time you put into these videos.
