    Hey Jesus, thanks for the video!
    I want to get a Yamaha Electric Violin.
    In the back I can see that you use a Yamaha Silent Violin.
    Do you prefer the YEV or the YSV ?
    Whats the biggest difference ? Is it just the possibility to use headphones with the silent one?
    In another video I felt like the YEV has a better sound, which is more similar to a acoustic violin.
    Thanks mate

    Where can you buy a violin like yours?

  • @bsuli76

    Hi Jesus, can you please measure the neck/stop bridge/stop proportion? I'm look for a traditional 130/195mm ratio.
    Previously I tried a few electrics, but all were slightly off and I had issues playing in higher positions.
    I'd order this violin blindly if I knew it has 130/195mm (which the Yamaha webpage does not mention at all).
    Thanks!

    Hi Florido!! What is your opinion about YEV104 Vs SV250. I use SV250. Good Video. Appreciate your opinion. Regards. Can you connect 1/4" directly to a mixer or a body pack transmiter like akg?

      Have you tried peg compound if they are too stiff, or chalk if the pegs are slipping too much?

    • @1970Bilbao
      @1970Bilbao 7 лет назад

      I agree chalk is the way to go. If that doesn´t work then you are still under guarantee to get it fixed by Yamaha.

      I baught one also. I don't have the tuning issue. However, I do use Stravari peg Compound on my other Violin that has peg slipping. You can also try peg drops. Both are sold on Amazon.

    hi I just received my Yamaha Yev 4 string violin ! thanks for the comments ? i do have a question and concern. the bridge of my violin seems higher than the one of my older Yamaha SV100 violin, and that makes that the chords are higher in the higher positions and more dificult to play. i really feel the difference with my older SV100 electric violin. Did you experience the same with the bridge of your Yamaha Yev violin ? Also the lower G sounds much higher volume than the other strings, amplified or not ... Any suggestions or ideas, same experiences ? Thank you !
    Philippe

      Nope, not yet! Debating if I should or not. I really suck at the violin. But I am self taught, which makes it difficult because I am probably doing a hundred things wrong and don't even know it. But I keep wondering if maybe its just a cheap violin that is hard to play? Probably not, lol, just trying to put the excuse on that! haha

    Hi,
    I play Indian style music(carnatic) on violin. I use acoustic violin and want to buy electric violin. I have seen many musicians using SV-130 to play carnatic music however my tutor is NOT sure if we can use YEV series violins for carnatic music. If anyone is aware of this then please let me know. Thanks in advance.

    What would be a great way to hook the YEV 104 to a thunderbolt audio interface connected to a MacBook air. Would I need a pre amp or could I just connect direct to audio interface? How are you connecting it in a home studio environment?

    • @1970Bilbao
      @1970Bilbao 7 лет назад

      Due to the low Impedance of the passive Bridge Pickup, you cannot just plug your YEV Violin directly into the Audio interface. The Audio will sound too low to record.
      My advice it to connect the Violin to a Yamaha THR5A external Amplifier, this
      will allow you to transfer the Audio to your DAW on the Macbook Air via a USB.
      The AD conversation is exceptionally clean providing a superb sound without any
      noise. The sound is very impressive.
      There are several other great things about this Amp that make it perfect for this violin:
      The five-position switch for example allows you to select from different mic models, including Condenser, Dynamic, and Tube Microphones, as well as a Nylon setting. The Blend control works really great allowing you to switch between a straight Acoustic sound and the modelled tone. There is also a built-in Tuner and Yamaha have a PC/MAC editor program (THR Editor) that enables you to control all the settings directly from your MAC or PC.
      The AMP can be Battery operated or line powered, so ideal for live performances and busking.
      If you want to record your YEV Violin on your PC or MAC, this is definitely the way to go.

    Does this play acoustically?

    • @pkskyutube
      @pkskyutube 8 лет назад +2

      +Mike Moussa No, not at all. It requres either a headphone pre-amp or an amplifier. Some electrics have an internal amplifier, not this one.

      Can you play it like a silent violin for practice, not plugged in and without headphones?

    • @1970Bilbao
      @1970Bilbao 7 лет назад +1

      Silent Violins are not silent. I measured the YEV-4 Violin at around 16Db. The Other Violins in the Silent Violin range that I tested (SV-150 and SV130) playing the same piece measured around 18-19Db (Louder than this model). My Acoustic Violin playing the same piece measure around 60Db. When using an ultra Violin Practice Mute this came down to around 30Db. Please note that Mutes are prone to damage your violin this is why they are not recommended for extensive playing.
      The good news is that 16Db this is not loud enough to disturb your neighbors unless your walls are paper thin so this Violin can be used without an Amp for Practicing if required.

    • @pkskyutube
      @pkskyutube 7 лет назад +1

      Gary, how do mutes damage your violin?

    • @1970Bilbao
      @1970Bilbao 7 лет назад +2

      Over the years there has been some debate regarding whether extensive usage of mutes can affect sound quality because it changes the frictional forces on the bridge and body. There are several schools of thought on this and no one has been able to scientifically prove this either way.
      In my own experience (30 years experience) I have noticed this change in color with my own violin when using a Mute for extensive practice. This has always been a concern.
      The other point is that adding and removing a mute can potentially lead to the bridge being damaged. This “structural damage” to the bridge can also alter the way your instrument sounds. Metal mutes in particular have the possibility of slipping off and damaging your instrument.
      The great thing about the YEV Violin is that you can plug in a set of headphones to an external amp and enjoy the full sound of your violin while practicing. It is also significantly quieter than an Acoustic Violin even with the mute on.
