The crossroads motif is a pretty big thing. The World Ends With You, for instance, has the Scramble Crossing, and the whole concept of the Reaper's Game starts with the entry fee: losing something important to you, with the potential to win it back along with your life.

Imagine the pressure being the translator for Nomura in English when you know every fan is going to pick your words apart to try and find some secret meaning that's not even here in the original Japanese.
Given Nomura’s symbolic interest in crossroads, I find it interesting that the letter “X” is used so frequently throughout KH (e.g., names of Organization members, the Dissident’s seal in DDD, etc.). An “X” is perhaps the simplest symbolic representation of a crossroad, so I imagine its use has been very intentional from pretty much the beginning. Cool to hear Nomura’s interpretation!
It could be why the X is in Nobody names. In the original story a man gives up his soul in order for the ability to play guitar. But in KH, a person gives up their heart and obtains a new life. So to symbolize they've been through the crossroads they add an X into their name. SoraX becomes Roxas. AnsemX becomes Xemnas

6:37 I love this observation, the hero ALWAYS meets with the villain during these crossroads: Sora-Ansem (KH 1), Aqua, Terra, Ventus-Xehanorth (BBS), etc… so it makes me think that Sora will NOT meet with another hero (Riku/Strelitzia) but an antagonist: either Yozora, Luxu or Master of Masters. It would make for a killer introduction to KH IV for sure.
I still can't believe they set up "See you in Shibuya" only to have Sora die, wait at the scramble crossing in front of 104, and not have that be Neku's world!
Neku and co did seem like they would have a role in a future game from their all too tiny plot in DDD, and the dreamworld connects worlds beyond light and dark or else Riku wouldn't have dreamt of Quadratum himself through his link to Sora
After this message I'm pretty convinced the Primordial Darkness's are in the box and waiting to be released like Pandora's box to possess the Foretellers and Luxu to be our main antagonists in this new saga. Good to see something after all this time to at least talk about something while we still wait.
If they do it right, they can really make that an emotionally heavy scene. The level of shock that this is what the master had planned for them and then Luxu letting it happen immediately right there would crush my soul 😢

I’m just saying, they left off where they did in the trailer for a reason. Edit: To clarify, the BBS crossroads that play before the fight between the Wayfinders and Xehanort/Vanitas. That scene cuts off abruptly and Terra/Aqua/Ven no longer have capes or the 2nd keyblades. What if this wasn’t just for stylistic purposes but rather because the first cutscene is set in the future? Think about how we know that Sora Riku and Mickey are all going to be missing soon, the Wayfinders are currently on their own mission anyway, and we still don’t actually know what creature Terra is standing on. All that with the added detail that they don’t see Xehanort walking towards them… just a dark figure.
With your comment mainly in regards of the wayfinders not just Ventus playing a role still in future stuff makes me wish for an idea for the trio along with the remaining dandelions that remain alive as far as we know to form a team to confront the fortellers, just be a cool idea as some of the fortellers metaphorically reflect them specially the wayfinders
Nomura bringing up the crossroads I think is also alluding to the very likely reveal that the “Daybreak Town becomes Scala ad Caelum, Scala ad Caelum becomes Traverse Town, Land of Departure, Radiant Garden, Twilight Town, and maybe more” theory is probably being realized in Missing Link
It's funny on how games turning 'this number of years' old doesn't make me feel old. I just turned 43 btw lol. What makes ME feel old is when my relatives my age have kids are now adults since I remember when they were babies lol. First time I felt this was when I was in my mid-30s and one of my oldest first cousins' daughter graduated HS (I was in HS when she was born). I was like, "WAAAA??? You can't be that old already!?" Also a similar effect is happening now with my parents' generation become elderly. My dad retired from work last year and his older brother just turned 70 the other day. The idea of my parents, aunts, and uncles getting old is a bit unsettling to say the least. As a KH fan, I always geek out whenever Nomura says something lol. I can't help it. His attention to detail when it comes to Symbolism is one of the reasons why I call him a genius lol.
@OhKayEl The Recusant's Sigil, the 'X' is given to members of Organization XIII by Xemnas. The guitar is the instrument from the folklore Nomura spoke of in his message. Demyx wields a sitar.
hey jared here is a little something for you this actually reminds me of something ive seen about xigbar about a man who made a deal with the devil got 7 magic bullets once the all 6 were used the 7th will be shot by the devil at someone the man loves xigbar s title shares a name with that
It reminds me of how the term "star-crossed lovers" came from Romeo and Juliet. Which, despite what pop-culture would have you believe, isn't a romance. Romeo and Juliet have fairly little stage time together the entire play, and only share one conversation before getting married. What it really is, is the tragedy that young "love" wasn't enough to stop the family feud. It took two tragic, senseless suicides to bring an end to it. Peace between the families was gained, but their children were lost. The "star-crossed" thing is supposed to refer to how fate brought Romeo and Juliet's downfall, though scholars have pointed out both their decisions played a big role too. I'm not even sure if the play itself wants you to believe they're really in true love rather than regular teenage infatuation. But either way, neither Juliet nor Romeo deserved what happened to them. They were children who lost their futures because the adults in their lives created a conflict that the next generation got swept into. Something that has a lot of parallels in Kingdom Hearts.
My theory of what the Foretellers and Luxu may have lost? What if it was Ava? She isn't there with them and what happened to her I'm pretty sure is still more-or-less in the air.
Great Video like always. BBS came out when I was 17. Insane. Try not to feel old Mode activated. Where is your Hair gone Jared? It is so short. Oh noooo...
Demyx seems like a more significant character than we realise. All of this has exciting potential foreshadowing for the Lost Master arc but he specifically came to mind when Nomura mentions a “deal” and the instrument. He may be more important to the larger story and I’m looking forward to it.
I can just imagine Nomura lighting up a fat one with the homies and suddenly he gets all philosophical and metaphysical, and then suddenly he's like "holy shit, that's good! I gotta tweet it" 😂
This man knows what he's doing. He's a genius and knows how to rope his audience and play the strings. He gives just enough to get us going and still has secrets. He doesn't buckle under the pressure from the fan base. I'm sure he's watching all of it unfold. Just like a character in the shadows, manipulating and plotting. Love it all.
I've never been so heavily invested in a series like I am with KH. Literally been here since day 1 and this year i'll be 33. I hope we continue to get more KH4 info through this year and that Nomura takes his time to give us an amazing game and doesn't rush anything 😌
I don't quite understand... What did the BBS trio obtain? You could argue, Aqua "gained" safety for Ven. Ven gained a second (or third? fourth?) chance at life. But Terra? What did Terra gain? He lost his body and was trapped inside Terranort for 10+ years. I am probably overthinking it, but its interesting.
They all kinda had the same goal to protect each other and thwart Xehanort. Terra specifically wanted to protect his friends and avenge Eraqus by stopping Xehanort, the price was his body. Aqua wanted to protect Ven and Terra, the price was getting trapped in the realm of darkness. Ven wanted to prevent the x blade from being forged and the price was his heart being fractured again. BBS is a story of tragedy and the heroes sorta got what they wanted but their efforts only really delayed Xehanort's plan at such a great cost. They were all lost, not dead at least 😅 but eventually came back and ultimately at the end of 3 saw Xehanort defeated and got a small reunion with their master. The game doesn't exactly mirror the devil's crossroads because they aren't explicitly looking to gain something but rather ensure the safety of their friends and prevent Xehanort from winning
I just noticed that in the Sebuya Crossroad, there's a green screen with a white triangle on it and some japanese words (the triangle is 100% a kanji but come on man, this is way too much to be a coincidence)
I would say the first cross road appearance is ansem at the door on destiny island. The door that tied that world to the others but more of a symbolic way
I'm still catching up on games that are 10+ years old by going through my Steam and 3DS library and sometimes I wonder just how much they'll do for me as a gamer that wants to experience what they have to offer... and then you bring up that KH2 is about to be 20 years old and I've replayed that game at least a dozen times in the past decade alone and STILL want to replay it again TODAY. Wow. Just wow. Really puts into perspective just how freaking much it holds up all these years later. Meanwhile I can't really bring myself to replay KH3 for a third time. Once at launch, once through ReMind, and.... yeah, I don't wanna touch it again. KH2FM is still the GOAT of the series. Going on 20 years. Just some thoughts. And and opinions. Nothing more.
Watching The Gathering at the time was insane, had no idea where the series was going. Looked more like Dark Souls or something, what we got was not what I thought at all, I imagined something a lot more in the past
Okay...KH 4 begins with Sora awaiting Someone at a crossroads, I'm cool with that. Suddenly a blazing streak of light zooms right by him, suddenly coming to a stop right there, 50 meters away give or take. The waves from the sonic boom would rustle up all the surrounding dirt and dust, shrouding what it was that almost hit Sora. Sora would then approach said dust-cloud and suddenly voices could be heard. "I have no idea about the we've landed in but at least everything is still standing". "Your mom chased your cat through that gate and now we have to find them out here, in 'this' era."
From hearing you talk about this, it could be that from the KH3 Re:Mind fight w/ Yozora could be that he's saving Sora from the MoM. He was in the trailer for KH4 either looking at or creating KH in the sky & Yozora could be the one to show up and help/save Sora from his fuckery.
You know I wonder if we’re are ever going to see Terra, Aqua, and Ven duel wield like they did in the KH2 secret movie. Or if that’s actually no longer considered cannon.
5:22 we don't know what's in the box?! Surely I can't be the ONLY ONE who heard Pete tell Maleficent in KHIII that they're looking for "the Black Box with the Book of Prophecies in it" right? Did Cynical and everyone else just miss that?! 😮 I think you guys could do with a few more playthroughs. I've completed it 10 times as it is now my favorite KH game, dethroning KH1. After you complete Olympus Pete says it while digging. Unless Pete and Maleficent are wrong. However, it makes sense because in X Back Cover, we see the Book of Prophecies, but when we see the box Luxu has the book is NOWHERE to be found. 🤔
I don't think they said out loud at any point the book of prophecies is in the black box but it makes sense with how Maleficent's character wants to achieve greater things like the "knowledge of the future", I skipped the lore of recoded but she seemed more mature to me in KH2 and she avoided Sora and his friends the entire game so it makes sense I guess.
@danielc.b6347 they said it out loud. Trust me. I've played the game 10 times and I just looked up the Olympus Cutscenes to check. Pete's EXACT words are "are you sure this black box with the Book of Prophecies is for reals?!"
A random thought struck me: What if on top of Quadratum being a “Square”, (4 sides) the square box that is Quadratum has four WALLS, the fourth of which will be broken?
I’d for sure love an in between game similar to BBS following the Lost Masters and potentially the dandelions. It seems almost necessary for IV to make sense and connect to UX. The idea that the return is apocalyptic is interesting… could explain why Sora’s in an alternate reality, akin to data world contingency plan. And Maleficent’s involvement HAS to be explained more, I’m convinced she’s now housing the final 13th darkness, most likely the strongest.

With your comment mainly in regards of the wayfinders not just Ventus playing a role still in future stuff makes me wish for an idea for the trio along with the remaining dandelions that remain alive as far as we know to form a team to confront the fortellers, just be a cool idea as some of the fortellers metaphorically reflect them specially the wayfinders
they removed the capes because the psp couldn't handle the cape's physics
first drop of KH news in god knows how long, god damn I am starving lmao
You could say they are all at different crossroads. Waiting for the other to show up.
IT'S 8 AM AND I WAKE UP TO DIS!?!?!?!?
Nomura bringing up the crossroads I think is also alluding to the very likely reveal that the “Daybreak Town becomes Scala ad Caelum, Scala ad Caelum becomes Traverse Town, Land of Departure, Radiant Garden, Twilight Town, and maybe more” theory is probably being realized in Missing Link
It’s 5 am right now and I’m wide awake for this! Yay! ❤️
5:40 *roll credits*
wild to come back to gamersjoint after so long looking for kh info.
Devil Myth + Guitar =
De + My + X
How did the guitar become the X?
@OhKayEl The Recusant's Sigil, the 'X' is given to members of Organization XIII by Xemnas. The guitar is the instrument from the folklore Nomura spoke of in his message. Demyx wields a sitar.
BRO FJSHEJWKEIEH OMG
if the keyblade graveyard and the shibuya crossing are linked, would all the dead keyblade wielders now be residents in shibuya too?
Like LOST when during seasons 5 and 6, changes the island location with the wheel spinning...
My addiction has been fueled. Thanks nomura 👍
This is so deep and it seems Kingdom Hearts just keeps getting deeper
hey jared here is a little something for you
this actually reminds me of something ive seen about xigbar about a man who made a deal with the devil got 7 magic bullets once the all 6 were used the 7th will be shot by the devil at someone the man loves
xigbar s title shares a name with that
I’m so excited! Thanks for this video I’ve wondered about updates on kh
Bro, did you forget about the crossroads with riku, mickey, and diz at the end of chain of memories?
That was a super interesting reading of the star-crossed lovers!
FF versus 13 was suppose to be this!!!
Seeing you get back in your groove, making videos; especially KH videos feelsgoodman. Been following you since 2014. Keep on keepin’ on dude
My theory of what the Foretellers and Luxu may have lost? What if it was Ava? She isn't there with them and what happened to her I'm pretty sure is still more-or-less in the air.
That man was legendary blues musician Robert Johnson. Also the 1st member of the 27 Club.
Great Video like always. BBS came out when I was 17. Insane. Try not to feel old Mode activated.
Where is your Hair gone Jared? It is so short. Oh noooo...
There's also the crossroads at the ending of Riku's side of chain of memories, where DiZ was waiting for him
I could listen to this guy yap about KH all day
2:37 Not Remind me only Demyx but also Ghost Rider 💀🏍️
7:32 💔⚫ Shadow The Hedhehog also appears at this Shibuya CrossRoads, as well Reynatis, TWEWY NEO and Alice in Borderland...
I wonder if he's a fan of the Supernatural TV Series. The Crossroads myth plays a heavy role in many seasons.
I was reckoning the same thing
YES I wonder that as well 😂
so true
Demyx seems like a more significant character than we realise.
All of this has exciting potential foreshadowing for the Lost Master arc but he specifically came to mind when Nomura mentions a “deal” and the instrument.
He may be more important to the larger story and I’m looking forward to it.
Thanks for uploading so fast
I can just imagine Nomura lighting up a fat one with the homies and suddenly he gets all philosophical and metaphysical, and then suddenly he's like "holy shit, that's good! I gotta tweet it" 😂
The crossroads motif is really cool appreciate an explanation from what Numora said
This man knows what he's doing. He's a genius and knows how to rope his audience and play the strings. He gives just enough to get us going and still has secrets. He doesn't buckle under the pressure from the fan base. I'm sure he's watching all of it unfold. Just like a character in the shadows, manipulating and plotting. Love it all.
I am so hopeless for 4 rn that this PHYSICALLY made me cry lol. Thank you Papa Nomura❤️
I've never been so heavily invested in a series like I am with KH. Literally been here since day 1 and this year i'll be 33. I hope we continue to get more KH4 info through this year and that Nomura takes his time to give us an amazing game and doesn't rush anything 😌
5:40 he said the thing!
Thank you I'm glad we got some thing! Nomora is obviously the master or masters.
❤❤❤ super thanks for new info
Oh mighty Jared, flipper of chairs and slapper of meats on table, what word hath Nomura blessed us with this fine day?
I think the 104 building in Shibuya is just a reference to the World ends with you game, and it will be a new crossover in the next KH
@@carlosbanderas6789 Good explanation!
When you have the “All notifications bell on” and its been 16 minutes since upload… why RUclips?
Crossroads in KH games means that you can play as multiple characters in the game, like Terra, Ventus and Aqua in BBS or Sora and Riku in COM
I just noticed that in the Sebuya Crossroad, there's a green screen with a white triangle on it and some japanese words (the triangle is 100% a kanji but come on man, this is way too much to be a coincidence)
Time to wait another 1000/2 Days!
I still love the theory that what’s in the box is just something that will help either light or dark to prevail over the other
I would say the first cross road appearance is ansem at the door on destiny island.
Some of The OSTs for the xehanort fights at the end of kh3 are called “critical crossroads”
Watching The Gathering at the time was insane, had no idea where the series was going. Looked more like Dark Souls or something, what we got was not what I thought at all, I imagined something a lot more in the past
2:36 at the beginning scene remember the movie (ghost rider 1)
Imagine he meets xehanort at the crossroads FULL CIRCLE with that line from kh3
You know I wonder if we’re are ever going to see Terra, Aqua, and Ven duel wield like they did in the KH2 secret movie. Or if that’s actually no longer considered cannon.
KH2 is my favourite game of all time. BBS is *very* close. Highly underrated imo. It’s not perfect, but it’s darn close.
Agree but flipped. But we still on the same page ❤
The person waiting at the crossroads is the Player (You, Me).
And Maleficent’s involvement HAS to be explained more, I’m convinced she’s now housing the final 13th darkness, most likely the strongest.
he saw your last video, he stubbled across it when he was catching up on lore 🤣
Shibuya incident at the crossroads OOOOOOOOOOOOO 😮
I really hope that the World Ends With You characters show up in KH4.
Birth by sleep is a great game
Damn i didnt even know BBS came out on my birthday until today
hey if i only have time to play 1 KH game , what one is the best game for a first timer ?
