Yo byfe. U ever read the eragon books. They have a concept of true names that are said in magic. If u had someones true name it granted u power over them. The true name was usually a discription of the individual base person. What if the ahamkara, worm gods and calus r trying to guess our true name to exert that power over us
8:30 that is one of the most satisfying, interesting and well written Lore entries I’ve seen. It’s so good. It grounds the world of Destiny as it shows that these characters co exist with Ahamkara and such and research them as we players do. The Ahamkara and humans aren’t oblivious to each other in the Destiny universe. They recognize each other. That’s brilliant.
It would be cool if ghaul used an ahmakara (idk how to spell it) to overthrow calus and take control of the traveler, because that would mean that we had already unintentionally beat a ahmakara and might give us hope to beat the last wish. Also that would mean there is still an ahmakara alive.
When it turns out Calus is an Ahamkara. At least we know he knows of them or the Worm Gods. Based on the cryptic things he always says to us I bet he has had some sort of encounter with them.
Something I found very interesting: one of the voice lines you can get from Calus in between menagerie fazes, is (more or less) “Will you now agree to live here aboard the Leviathan? If you do, you must never go to the Dreaming City again.” It struck me as odd because of a couple of things. First, how does Calus know of the Dreaming City? The Awoken were able to keep that a secret from most everyone except Spider, who only knew of its existence, not anything to do with Riven or the curse. Second, why does Calus not want us back there? Is he aware of the extent of the curse? Is he aware of Riven’s presence? This ties into the fact that Riven uses the same set of words as Calus, in that she calls us “O Murderer Mine” after you complete the Last Wish raid. To me, all of this comes together to imply that Calus is aware of the control Riven has on us via the curse, and is attempting to break that control by using the same phrase: “O Champion Mine” why Calus would see Riven as a threat is interesting because i’m unsure of the damage to Calus’s plan she might cause. She hasn’t directly stated any knowledge of the coming darkness, let alone any intention to stop it. Just some things i’ve been thinking about.
Philip Alzate Thank you. I have been saying this forever and have not seen anything made about it. Ever since he was revealed to be a robot I had a huge suspicion. She’s just tricking us into trusting her which is how she gains power. Everything about the emperor screams that he is actually her. Would love a good video on this.
Excellent video, as always! I believe it should also be mentioned and considered that Calus' experience with Ahamkara may be closer than just learning about them through the OXA machine and athaneum worlds. In the Collector's Edition Cabal book, Calus' backup plan to try to escape the Midnight Coup seemed to have involved a bone of some kind. One crushed by his daughter. While not directly stated, it seems reasonable to suggest that it was an Ahamkara bone and that Calus understands, at least somewhat, the power of the Ahamkara. So, he may have more knowledge of their incantation and ability than mentioned in the video above. But, maybe something better left for a comment, rather than going off on a few minutes long tangent in your video. Either way, keep up the good work!
I just want to say, when using the giant hammer, Always use R2 (RT) attack. R1 (RB) does less damage and uses up more super energy. R2 has a giant AOE, and more damage.
I’ve always thought of it more like, Calus knows of our actions with riven and is either taunting or mocking us with a similar phrase rather than just a coincidence.
The first time I heard Calus say "O Champion Mine" I nearly returned to orbit on the spot. Mara Sov and others have said that Guardians are incredibly easy to manipulate, you simply have to wave a challenge in front of their face with the promise of shiny new loot. My belief is that the entire menagerie exists just to get Guardians to see the emperor favorably because he gives us cool weapons and armor and taunts and praises us throughout.
I think the arhamkara the worm gods and calus are the same using the ‘o mine’ but though time develop different mannerisms the arhamkara becoming more solidarity while the worm gods teamed up
In his hubris Calus believes that the spell of "O _____ Mine" works on Guardians, but our Ontologicality if not completely nullifying it then at least weakening it sufficiently to be resistable.
hey Byf. big fan for years now, but first time that I commented. i love your videos man. Your voice in combination with the epic music in the background makes one hell of an entertainment. you and myelin games are my major sources for all knowledge regarding destiny. small adivce though, try using the R1+R1+R2 combo instead of 3x R2 when using the sword artifact. it actually does more damage than spamming R2. anyway, great job man. you are definitely one of my favorite youtubers
Very interesting stuff! "O Champion mine" really had me wondering. I think you should make a video on our Guardian's 'paracausality' and how us Guardians 'Make our own fate' like in the Vault of Glass. This is the part of the lore I understand the least and would much like an explanation of.
The first time I heard Calus say this, I forget the exact line, but he was talking about Mara and the Dreaming City. The way I took it was as a subtle jab, that he knew what was at the heart of the Dreaming City. Ever since then, I've always thought "O Champion Mine" was Calus being cheeky, since he clearly has something against Mara.
So, I have a idea or a possible speculation. One of the lines calus says is "Now have you decided to live aboard the Leviathan?, If so you must NEVER return to the dreaming city" which can be taken in many ways. Like, maybe he is savathun, but 1. He most likely isn't, and 2. Why would savathun not want us to go to the dreaming city, it helps her. It could be a set for another allegiance quest where siding with calus can cause tech witches and the corsairs or even Petra herself not to trust you and say similar lines to how Drifter calls you a snitch if you side with aunor. Or if you side with dreaming city, calus can send his shadows after you randomly to hunt you down. Now the first allegiance quest, a lot more people sided with drifter since they like him and barely know aunor, this one would probably a more equal set since people like Calus and Petra. Or maybe he's gonna destroy the dreaming city, not at all likely
I honestly have never been this early. Was just chilling out watching Byf videos, clicked back to his main channel, and here it was. Gonna be a great video.
I agree wholeheartedly. As insightfully explained in one of your previous videos, the game is called Destiny and when it comes to our destiny being determined by someone else or by our own decisions, this phrase in question really provoked the player’s perception of what’s really going on as we play the game. The phrase most undoubtably has power though, don’t even wonder about that: I haven’t taken off my Skull helmet since I put it on September 2017!
I remember a lore part where Calus tried to save talking bones as he was being coup-ed. I would doubt him to care at all about another Ahamkara’s bones if he was one. After wondering about his O champion mine line(s) for a couple weeks, I think Byf’s analysis as Calus trying to exert control is spot on. Remember Calus’s last champion? Didn’t go so well. He tried to get revenge but we did it first (or he couldn’t) so now he’s trying to get on our good side. I think he’s scared and trying anything to prevent us from toppling him too.
I pose a different theory, in the context of Calus saying “oh champion mine”, he also talks about wishing to have us put in a good word with the awoken for him. Because he “would so like to meet what they hid behind their borders”, he then says the line in question. I think he says this as a hint to us, basically he knows that the awoken have an ahamkara hidden in the Dreaming City and he would very much like to add it to his collection or perhaps use to gain that which he cannot have. Possibly as Byf said, control.
My best guess is that it is basically some kind of spell similar to Friends in Dnd. Its meant to make your target easier to sway, but doesnt grant you direct control over them.
Tyler Oag - On my hunter gear(don’t know if it’s the same for all classes), it talks about killing Ikora and Amanda Holliday, and some others. It’s crazy.

Some people say they can outsmart titan, perhaps, perhaps. But ive yet to meet someone who can outsmart shoulder charge
I swear you choose the greatest soundtracks to put in the background. Shadow of the Walker was just perfect for this.
Video starts at 05:13, i don’t think you can donate at the mean time
remember guardians, saving the universe is bound to drop the motherload of all loot
Byf: "O Viewers mine"
Me: **loads Last Word with malicious intent**
I think the arhamkara the worm gods and calus are the same using the ‘o mine’ but though time develop different mannerisms the arhamkara becoming more solidarity while the worm gods teamed up
In his hubris Calus believes that the spell of "O _____ Mine" works on Guardians, but our Ontologicality if not completely nullifying it then at least weakening it sufficiently to be resistable.
You're the man byf. Keep up the good work. Been here since d1 and I don't plan on ever leaving
Keep up the great work for St. June... Oh Lore Master mine
Ok great video really but at 10:47 your health syncs perfectly with the music
hey Byf. big fan for years now, but first time that I commented. i love your videos man.
Getting a really heavy "Would you kindly..." feel to this. :/
Confirmed... Byf is Ahamkara...
... O' Loremaster Mine.
I absolutely love your channel and learning about the really cool lore of this game!
As soon as he said that line I was like that sounds familiar.
Then I was thinking if Callus and Riven are both linked to Savathune.
When has the phrase, “O ____ mine,”
ever had any effect on us?
Have you forgotten, Byf, Guardians make their own fate?
I dunno, I feel pretty attached to my Skull of Dire Ahamkara. And hungry. Definitely hungry.
@@Alexander.Lockwood Honestly how can any of us NOT be attached to it, even after the nerf
Pediatric Healthcare Professional here... thank you Byf for taking the time and resources to go above/beyond for the kids. Wish I could be there
You should cover the opulent armour set lore.
It talks about the owl group and shadow of earth
Tyler Oag - On my hunter gear(don’t know if it’s the same for all classes), it talks about killing Ikora and Amanda Holliday, and some others. It’s crazy.

Amazing vid as always Byf!
Awesome video like always, thank you for what you do with lore. You help me during work when it’s slow to past time and grasp my attention. More importantly, thank you for what you, toast, and peanut butter has done for the community. #littlelight #thankyou
Wow amazing job with the donation to those little kids im very proud of being a member of this community. Thank you BYF.
I don’t usually make comments like this but I live in Memphis, TN ( the home of st Jude) and it’s a great place that helps tons of families and absolutely worth every cent and second of yourself you are willing to give
Not gonna lie, I got chills when you said O, viewers mine.
Always such a huge fan of your videos. You've painted the story of destiny better than anyone, so thank you. Also I have a shirt on the way and I'm so excited! Supporting such an important cause via one of my favorite RUclipsrs, easiest decision ever 😁
Can you explain paracausality?
Petition for Byf to be the next Speaker for the Traveller
Calus is a hybrid of vex and cabal because in the insight terminus oxxot might be a psion and the Oxon might be a vex from the golden agent
I think the entity Calus met in that 'absence of everything' is the same one that taught Oryx to Take. And probably what taught the Worms and Ahamkara as well
Ever since I heard it the first time, I've been eagerly awaiting something from you about it.
Can someone tell me the name of the soundtrack playing @ 2:20 ?
I know it played in the cinematic D2 trailer & some of the edz forges.
You have no idea how much I freaked when he said that...so excited to see what your explanation is!
Edit: I would prefer if Riven and Savathun has a hand in this somehow.
