On another subject, earlier in the film they showed that radiation being let off from Godzilla was enough to ruin pictures taken from quite a distance away. Can't help but wonder what that kind of radiation was doing to those people up close like that...
I think it's only lethal if you're around him long enough, and I think the radiation messes with the camera because of its atomic nature, could be distorting the light the camera lense sees through.

Personally I think what is meant by Godzilla 'protecting' humanity or the Earth and then proceeding to destroy the city, along with the statement there's Godzilla inside everyone of us is a statement on humanity itself. I think people meme the line, and it is kind of funny, but the statement is humanity will and can save itself, but humanity often decides to at intervals destroy itself and the world or society around it. Godzilla in this instance is that human dichotomy of preservation and victory in the face of great hardship, while also brutal and destructive pointed inwards and around. Love me some Godzilla 2000!

Godzilla saved Japan not out of an innate goodness, but out of an inherent instinct to "protect his turf" which is Japan (and frequently, especially, Tokyo). His fire breath over the city is Godzilla "marking his territory".
It's almost a philosophical statement. He spent so many years fighting something so distant from him. In a literal sense yes, but also he never fundamentally knew what he was fighting up close and personal. To win a war one must know their enemy; because he never truly knew what Godzilla was capable of he was always "far away". Like a parasocial enemy he was never truly prepared for. In the end he died the closest he has ever been to understanding Godzilla. In that WY he died being like Godzilla. Or maybe I am overanalazying., this was one of my first Godzilla movies, and Jumpstart my love for the franchise.
Godzilla is not mankinds ally. He only protects his territory but he is really a metaphor for the nuclear bomb and people forget that. He isnt even an anti-hero hero. He's a representation of mankinds evil
This Godzilla had a great roar, but the most memorable to me is in the last seconds of the movie. At 8:54 when he let's out that roar, but it fades as the music and film ends, is just poetic. The ultimate sign-off to say "That one was for 1998. The REAL Godzilla is back, baby.". Probably the best in the franchise, tied with the original. F*cking chills, EVERY TIME.
even though the voice acting can be cheesie, i still think i prefer the Eng version of this movie. i usually prefer the original versions, but this one has a few tweaks on the effects which improve it and some nice musical score additions.
