To me, the Heisei series is the best of the Godzilla series. It kept the original as part of the continuity, kept him as a dangerous creature representing the consequences of nuclear war that he's supposed to be, had the best-looking and most interesting monsters, and at times, when it did look at his softer side, it did it realistically, depicting Godzilla as a protective and territorial animal.
I think the ending to Godzilla vs Destroyah has a powerful, if not, emotional message to us G-fans. No matter how Godzilla dies, his soul and energy shall live on from his offspring. Even if this ended the Hesei era of the Godzilla series, we at least know this for certain that, Godzilla Junior will carry his father's path as being the next King of the Monsters, for both good, and evil. When his time comes, another Godzilla offspring will repeat, and goes the life cycle of the big G.
You know when I first saw this ending I didn’t know it was Junior as the new Godzilla, I thought I was Godzilla’s ghost or something, symbolizing that while he may now be dead his spirit would haunt humanity for the rest of all time, in other words: a god’s rage never dies. And that just gave me chills.
