This was the first ever scene of Godzilla I ever watched as a kid. I failed to catch the movie from the beginning when it aired on TV, so this was my introduction to the King of the Monsters. And actually, this was a fantastic first impression for me to have. Him blasting through the military like it was nothing, the distant camera shot of people watching him wading through the bay, and then all the ground-level angles of him marching through the city as civilians run for their lives. The scene excellently showed Godzilla's size and power, and showcased him as an unstoppable force of nature. And then later on, I learned that he was just rushing over to crush the villain who had hurt his son, making me realize that he was not just a mindless beast of destruction, but a sentient being capable of thought and emotion. He has been my favorite movie character ever since.
0:46 Imagine hearing alarms go off, running to the coast to see what's wrong, and seeing *that* in the bay heading towards you. Yeah, I wouldn't stick around.
Fun fact: the scenes of Godzilla going up against the navy is stock footage from "Godzilla vs Biollante", which you can tell from the fact that the Godzilla suit seen is BioGoji, not MogeGoji. They had filmed a new Godzilla vs Navy scene, but it wasn't used, for some reason.
The reason it wasnt used was because none of the effects worked properly during filming and they didn't have the time or the budget to reshoot it. If you look up the deleted and unused footage from this film some of the effects going haywire can be seen there.
I think the heisei series is my favourite Godzilla series. It recovers greatly from the Showa series, and does a very good job of hiding the mess it created and replacing it with this anti-hero.
The movie makers always have Godzilla walk behind the scenery and have massive explosions. If this attack were to actually happen, what is so volatile in the city to have such massive explosions.
0:45 inmagine that your out driving and you look at your right you see godzilla swimming across the bay you be like "well better start finding a new house” but hey you have a new wallpaper pic to put on your PC
Seeing that part where Godzilla started blasting them with his atomic breath it was like he was thinking 'Get out of my way you stupid humans I have no time to deal with you'.
I'm glad that you noticed that misspositioning in 1:18 too! :-) Your question about Godzilla's motivation: He's not just a reptile eating people. In no G-movie there's a scene where he eats people or eats at all. He's not a "mutated lizzard" like in the US-movie. Godzilla is a mystical, God-like creature, indestructible by men, the laws of physics don't apply on him. That's the fascination of the original Godzilla the US-version didn't understand.
@MessagesFromEarth Actually, I think it takes place over a very long time, as by the time Godzilla fights SpaceGodzilla it's already nighttime. By the movie's end, it's sunrise the next day. I noticed that the Japanese Godzilla is more of a tank, only the American one can move that fast.
@lagunesephitor I thought that too, but I asked a teacher of mine and she said it was a hotel in Kumamoto. Godzilla moves at super speed. First he's in the bay, then Tenmonkan, then Tsurumaru, and the next step he takes he's in Kumamoto. If only the shinkansen moved that fast.
Space Godzilla: Monster from Space Earth. Just so you know it was a throw away line from Futurama where they off-handedly mention a delivery to Space Earth.
at this point i can almost see Godzilla's perspective change of humans since they made a mistake, even when they were after him, he didn't fight back until they opened fire. I know hes just trying to get to his imposter that kidnapped his son, but still. this became much more apparent in the film after this too.
Because godzilla was going onto land and they wanted to avoid godzilla going through all of those cities like he ended up doing. But spacegodzilla could fly so his destruction was only in one city, so Godzilla would seem like the one that could possibly cause more destruction, also the army already sent their most powerful weapon, moguera, after spacegodzilla.
@Godzilla1704 I think he's just passing through. He doesn't care about what he steps on. He's on his way to get his hardcore battle on. He's not stopping to see the sights. I guess the Japanese Defense Forces didn't appreciate him trashing Kagoshima on his way to rock Space Godzilla
mostly because godzilla 2000 had a lot of bad effects, and kind of the same with vs megaguirus. For some reason a lot of the editings look far better than some of the stuff in the 2000s godzilla films.
One should never do, underestimate Godzilla's intelligence, and perseverance. He is not called King of the Monsters for nothing. No wonder most Kaiju from the Toho Franchise respected and feared him. Mothra however well she is the only one who could and can keep him in check. Godzilla got his "claws fool" there. Hey I made a Godzilla pun.
If they're so gung-ho to waste ammunition doing nothing to Godzilla (It doesn't work! Get it through your thick skulls!) they could at least launch some comically over-sized ICBMs at him or something.
@giuliafelix A friend of mine who loves Godzilla told me about this movie when I was over at his place one day. He had posters and action figures and all that stuff from when he was a kid. I found the movie and cut the best part out for RUclips
Why not just avoid uselessly fighting Godzilla, and concentrate resources on evacuating people? That way, nobody dies. In fact, has anyone considered what would happen if we DIDN'T shoot at Godzilla before he came onto land? Maybe he'd just ignore us.
Godzilla doesn't care about the city here. He's in hot pursuit of SpaceGodzilla, who has just kidnapped his son. If the city is between him and his son's captor, you bet he's gonna go through it regardless of resistance.
well actually in godzilla vs mothra they try to attack godzilla from a different direction trying to lure him in that direction but it doesn't work. And the military also does slow down godzilla a lot most of the time in the other films, so even though it might save 1 more 2 minutes, thats still a lot of time for someone to run out of the path of godzilla.
well actually that first clip on :36 is from godzilla vs mothra, the scene with godzilla's atomic breath shooting the ship is from vs biollante, but then they skip back to original footage and then go back to vs biollante footage for a split second and then go back to original footage.
@@Smar_0 That’s right, Godzilla is good in combat with his excellent strength and durability, and a whale for his shear size and ability to swim through oceans deep and shallow.
I can picture Godzilla rampaging in Manny and his family's home with many prehistoric mammals running and screaming in my head right this very second. ^_^
LOL! That's just like us...Godzilla heads towards Kyushu then afterwards....SPACE! There really is nothing outside of Japan.... I guess he couldn't go to Indonesia, Malaysia or for heavens sake the U.S. !
the only scenes that were from godzilla vs biollante was the one where godzilla shoots atomic breath at the ships and the small clip of the ship exploding, the rest is original footage.

If that happen I'd automatically start playing this them that's played since it's so damn cool!
Such an awesome underrated theme for Godzilla it gives hes a hero but still an unstoppable force
The entire segment of him marching to Fukuoka is epic, the music is just awesome
You forgot one more piece of stock footage: When Godzilla roars and fires his beam at the ships, it's from Godzilla vs Mothra: The Battle for Earth
Yes.
The reason it wasnt used was because none of the effects worked properly during filming and they didn't have the time or the budget to reshoot it. If you look up the deleted and unused footage from this film some of the effects going haywire can be seen there.
@BluePanic That's because they used the GhidoGoji suit (which is a refurbished BioGoji suit) for that entire sequence of him coming out of Mt Fuji.
@@skullcubestudios1460 yeah I noticed that
What I like about the heisei movies is tahy can make Godzilla looks totally unstopable yet still a character
This is almost 20 years old and I can never forget.
I think the heisei series is my favourite Godzilla series. It recovers greatly from the Showa series, and does a very good job of hiding the mess it created and replacing it with this anti-hero.
JamarBenson And they gave Godzilla a little bit more of a personality and some character development with Junior.

Yeah but luckly the legendary Version understand it.

Why was the navy even attacking Godzilla when Space Godzilla was already attacking?
Ryan the OG Godzilla is probably a bigger threat than that Space Godzilla Phony.

Why does this quality look better than godzilla 2000?
Higher budget, g 2000 was rushed because of the 98 movie
mostly because godzilla 2000 had a lot of bad effects, and kind of the same with vs megaguirus. For some reason a lot of the editings look far better than some of the stuff in the 2000s godzilla films.

Perhaps a little known fact, Godzilla, pronounced "Gojira" in Japanese, comes from the words for "Gorilla" (Gorira) and "Whale" (Kujira)
So he is a Gorilla and a whale mixed together?
I thought he was a lizard and a whale.
@@Smar_0 That’s right, Godzilla is good in combat with his excellent strength and durability, and a whale for his shear size and ability to swim through oceans deep and shallow.
@@Smar_0 he's an amphibian dinosaur with laser breath, the reason why he has gorilla in his name is to symbolize his strength on land
