      Oh thank you! Honestly I am sometimes unsure if I want to stain it darker but you are right that lighter colors make everything look brighter and more spacious 😊

    Looks absolutely beautiful. Where are your workers from? They are real craftsmen. All family? Oh no, snakes!?!?! I’d have to go back to the city…hahahaha My mother’s bedroom ceiling when she grew up in Pirin had a carved wood ceiling. The house even had a hidden room and some doors were steel or heavy thick wood. Except for the snakes, and maybe they have a place in nature, you have your own Paradise. You are right to take safety precautions…Maybe a plum or cherry or other fruit tree would be right for your yard.

      Oh Pirin! All I can say is BEAUTIFUL! I love the mountains ❤️. Anyone who is lucky enough to have a house in the mountains is blessed and it sounds like you are one of them. Your mother’s house sounds like something out of a fairytale.
      Ooo snakes… the thing is I love them. I actually used to have a pet snake but my mom made me get rid of him haha 🐍. Out here they are scary though… especially the пепелянки 😳
      The workers are from the neighboring village. They are amazing! They work so well and so quick. I am always shocked at how fast they work. I think they like doing work at our house because we always cook them манджи for lunch 😃 😋

    That's a well stocked bar ...and probably even more well stocked by now 😂
    I know the whisky pros say that Johnny Walker Black Label is better, but I do enjoy Red Label's slight sharpness/bite. I've been working through various whiskies over the last few years, when I see them on sale. Do you make cider in Bulgaria ?

    • @sistersofbulgaria9396

      Ooooo he’s having soooo much renovating!! I am having a blast pitching into the renovations when needed but honestly I think he wants to be the man and take the lead 😄. I’m having blast decorating!
      I honestly think red label is real good too. Black label probably is better for those who understand but to me both are great. Whenever I visit America I bring him Double Black or Blue label and he gets soooo excited. The truth is black label in Bulgaria doesn’t taste the same (we even wonder if we get sold bootleg bottles without knowing) so we just go for the red here. If we are going to get ripped off at least it won’t be at the Black or Blue label price haha.
      Actually we don’t make cider in Bulgaria but that is SUCH A GREAT IDEA!!! I made beer and cider once back in New York and it actually turned out pretty good. I will definitely try it here!! You never know, we may start a trend! 😃 🍻

    Those stone roofs - it looks like those slabs must weight a lot. Does the supporting woodwork have to be very strong? Do the slabs ever get blown off by the wind? Why did people start using stone slabs rather than clay tiles?

    • @sistersofbulgaria9396
      @sistersofbulgaria9396  6 месяцев назад +2

      All great questions! Stone slabs are the traditional roofing style for this region of Bulgaria. Our village never had any other roofing in the past. Only recently did some people start using red roofs to renovate and only because they are cheaper. Otherwise the stone slabs are MUCH stronger and last much longer. All slabs you see are over 200 years old and still holding strong. If put in place properly they don’t move or fall. Each slab is placed very carefully and creates something of a “puzzle fit”. You are 100% correct about the wood beams heading to be very strong. They are actually full tree trunks. The only danger is if rain water passes through the slabs and drips repeatedly on the wood. This causes the whole roof, and eventually house, to collapse. Inevitably over 200+ years some slabs have moved or weakened and we have to stay on constant alert to make sure no rain water comes through. This is what we call “catching the drop”. 🌧️ 💧 If you make sure to do this they can last for years to come!

    Nice reno .Excellent job 👌. Do you need to get building permits in Bulgaria to do renovations on houses

      @sistersofbulgaria9396  5 месяцев назад +1

    Re-watching this video, I just noticed the comment about citrous discouraging spiders. Can you expand on this please? I live on a boat and I'm overrun with spiders every summer.

    • @sistersofbulgaria9396
      @sistersofbulgaria9396  3 месяца назад

      Ooooo we have SUCH A SPIDER PROBLEM. It’s crazy how quickly they spin their webs and multiply.
      Spiders dislike citrus and vinegar! What we do is we keep citrus fruits in a bowl around the house (but I’m talking manyyyy citrus fruits). We also rub citrus peels in corners, windowsills and doorways. It helps A LOT!
      I have a lot of experience boating (I basically lived on a Searay Sundancer 😄) and had all sorts of issues but never spiders… I’m surprised they are creeping their way in 😮. Water bugs were a huge issue on docks in the Carolinas but thankfully they never got inside the boat. Try the citrus trick! I think it will help.

    Вие сте българи. Отначало ви взех наистина американци. Не мисля, че истински американци ще изкарат в тази пустош, дето няма нищо за правене. Ще ви следя, защото съм убедена, че няма да изкарате дълго в това село. Може би го правите за роднини или само за летните ваканции.

    • @sistersofbulgaria9396
      @sistersofbulgaria9396  5 месяцев назад

      Българи сме, да 😊
      Това е селото на Дядо ми. Майка ми и баща ми ме пращаха тук всяко лято и се влюбих още от малка. Тук се запознах с приятеля ми (той е от Стара Загора, но баба му беше от тук).
      Права сте че не е лесен живота на село. Има моменти когато става скучно, особено за млад човек. За това редовно ходя при баба в София и Пазарджик. Ще видим как ще се развият нещата, но съм много доволна че лека по лека успяваме да съхраняваме семейните ни традиции и домове. ❤️
