  • We are all about traditional living in the Balkans and Easter in Bulgaria is no different! Today I will show you another amazing dish my Baba (grandma) cooks in our little Eastern European paradise: Bulgarian Kuzunak (Козунак)!! This is a big deal because Baba agreed to share her secret recipe with you all and I really think you will enjoy this festive deliciousness!
Warning: Kuzunak is very difficult to make and requires tedious attention to detail. IT TOOK US 15 HOURS TO MAKE!! But was well worth it! 🥖🥯 🍞
    ABOUT ME:
My name is Laurie and I swapped city life (Manhattan, New York) for a simple life in a semi-abandoned village (Село) in the Balkan Mountains (Eastern Europe).
I literally woke up one morning and realized NYC wasn’t for me. I booked a ticket (the same day!), packed a little suitcase, and moved to my beloved teeny-tiny Bulgarian farm… lost in time. And when I say lost in time I mean LOST-IN-TIME. No time-crunching jobs, no watching the clock, hardly any internet service at all, really. Imagine a village from the Middle Ages… that’s pretty much what you get here. And I’m loving every second of it!
I went from living in a city of 8 million to living on an old, historic farm… population: under 40. From skyscrapers to crumbling abandoned houses. From fast food takeout to barrel grill cooking. The advantages of village life are endless…
Update: My boyfriend and I have saved up and begun renovating our abandoned ancestral homestead (farmhouse). It hasn’t been easy but definitely interesting and extremely rewarding. There is nothing better than farming, harvesting and foraging for our own food… and keeping tradition alive. 🌱

You are soo blessed to spend this priceless with your grandmas, not many people get this opportunity. Your babas are very sweet, hardworking and better chefs than any michelin chefs & bakers out there. I love what you have done to go back to your home country, it's the best thing to do. Enjoy and keep filming for us to get a snapshot of the good life in your home country.

Thanks so much Stephanie! It gladdens me to hear that other people out there cherish traditions! I am writing everything down as I go along and might even try publishing a book down the road 😃 There is SO MUCH to learn from older people. ❤️

You appear to have found a niche with the cooking videos. Its very informative. How our old folk cooked and many still do. Its so natural.

I accidentally started making cooking videos sharing older generation’s techniques. To be honest it all started when I was watching my Baba’s cook and I realized this has to be preserved. I’m so happy you are enjoying them and find them informative! 😊 traditions need to stay alive !

Баба Нина rules! ❤I guess you need to spend more time with her learning how to cook! LOL Tell her not to worry, Чичо Мемфис will help! 🤣Which Бира is that? Not Шуменско. (I know that one because I have friends in Noisy Town 🤣) That cookbook is priceless! Not only will you learn how to make every манджа you need to know, but it's filled with бабина любов!

Hahah you are more than welcome to help! I feel like your cooking skills mixed with Baba’s would make for a revolutionary meal!
The beer is Zagorka. My favorite out of them all! I dont know if it’s because my boyfriend is from Stara Zagora and I used to drink Zagorka thinking of him back when we had a secret relationship hiding from baba and diado 😅
The cookbook is totally priceless. I actually have people asking me to publish it and I’m seriously considering it down the road 🌶️ 🫑 🧅 🥕

Please publish the cookbook in both print and ebook forms in English. I haven't been able to find a single BG-specific cookbook. I did manage to find one with Polish recipes but BG is very rare (I've been a book reseller for many years so have dug through tons and tons of books!)

I am SO HAPPY AND EXCITED you messaged this because I have been seriously contemplating publishing Baba’s recipes!!! Hearing that you would be interested in her recipes just motivated me to pull through with my plan. Thank you so much for letting me know! I will start looking up how to publish it. Do you know of any good publishing companies by any chance/ how the process works? I have never published anything before lol

@@sistersofbulgaria9396 keto diet doesn't suit everyone. People have different metabolism etc. I doubt it would suit you as you'd possibly begin to lose weight. With some people it causes the weight to fall away so quick. I just about only need to look at food to put on weight haaa. But anyway keto is also great for people who are diabetic. Or who have certain severe health problems.
Anyway, im lucky im actually someone who's able to stick with things that i decide to stick to. Wanting to be more healthier is a good enough incentive anyway. But your videos for me are like an addiction to food porn or something. I can still almost taste the food with my eyes 🙂 .
