  • This is one of only six Hopkins designed and built coasters currently still operating. There are five others in the USA that we have filmed and one abroad that we haven't. Do you know what it's called and where it's located?
    You can watch the off-ride video we posted to see what this fun family coaster looks like: • Video
    Story Land is located in Glen, New Hampshire.

    This ride has changed since I was a kid living in neighboring North Conway. In the late 70s I remember it was called the Iceberg Coaster, and at the end the track dropped down to about a foot above the water and shot across the pond. They were doing renovations / additions just as I was moving to another state. I have many happy memories from that park.

    My daughter's first roller coaster! She's 4 but she loved it and rode it twice. One must start somewhere!

  • @noxxicstarr9952
    @noxxicstarr9952 10 лет назад

    The video doesn't do it justice for the speed. It's accually quite fast. It was made with kids in mind, and a good coaster for beginers who wants to start the thrill. This was my first coaster and, even thou I didn't like it, my nephew and niece did, and that's all that mattered.

  • @roaqua
    @roaqua 8 лет назад +9

    I love how some comments say "Lamest coaster ever!!" Its pretty fast irl. (I went on it)
    Edit: Also the design of it is amazing. if you don't like it go on some death roller coaster k?
    ANOTHER EDIT: Ohhh the reason why its fast irl. is that they updated it now it goes faster.

    • @jasonhook3884
      @jasonhook3884 7 лет назад +1

      I disagree. This is still very slow, even for a family ride. Modern family coasters (Roar-o-saurus, Wooden Warrior, Firechaser Express) are decently quick, and still make this look like those little dino coasters you see at traveling fairs.

    • @roaqua
      @roaqua 7 лет назад

      You have been on it right?

    • @jasonhook3884
      @jasonhook3884 7 лет назад

      Roaqua A few times. And compared to most modern family coasters, this still lacks any real speed to me. Not to dissimilar from the Santa Monica West Coaster.

    • @roaqua
      @roaqua 7 лет назад

      Jason Hook If you gone on it back in like 2009 or something they updated it and it went fast for me. And i went on the roar-o-saurus.

    To answer your question about the Hopkins coaster that's abroad, that coaster is New Wild Mouse Coaster at Misaki Park in Osaka, Japan. Here the RCDB link: rcdb.com/2407.htm

    I see in 4 years nobody has answered the question in the description. The one Hopkins coaster, as far as i can tell, that you have not shown is Cliffhanger at Ghost Town in Maggie Valley NC. Formerly known as the Red Devil and later changed and repainted. Ghost Town has since been closed for years due to low attendance. It was the first roller coaster i rode when i was 9 years old. Set on the side of a mountain it drops straight out of the elevated station and goes straight into a loop. The chain lift is at the end of the ride bringing you back into the station.

    If, as an adult, you find this coaster "lame" or whatever......perhaps you are taking yourself just a wee bit too seriously?

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin 7 лет назад +1

      Or they're just not considering the purpose of Story Land, which is a park for families with younger children. The clever thing about Story Land is that it has almost no "kiddie rides" as such: you don't park your 4-year-old on a ride and stand there and wait, like you might in the kiddie section of a regular amusement park. They're all family rides that parents can share with their children. But that means that they have to be gentle, for the most part. Roar-O-Saurus is the exception--though it looks small, that one's for the more intrepid. But this one is for the little ones.
      The Polar Coaster was my daughter's favorite ride when she was 6. After she went to Walt Disney World and rode Big Thunder Mountain, she was kind of spoiled for this one. But at the time, it was enough of a thrill.

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin 7 лет назад

      (Just about the only exception I can think of is that tiny playground merry-go-round that you can see here around 1:37 . That's probably intended for the entertainment of wee ones who are too little to even enjoy the Polar Coaster, while their siblings are riding.)
