    Just my $0.02... Lexus RX 350 2017... no navigation built-in... my car has the dial to select the stock options. The car came with Scout GPS (works with iPhone app) which is absolute trash. The bolts that hold the radio are hard to see and get to... especially the passenger side. Like one commenter, I also "lost" my passenger side bolt. It fell down in the center console never to be found again. I would suggest using a slim piece of cardboard to make a ramp... shove it up in the hole... that way, if the bolt falls out when loose, it will just slide down and out the hole. I had to use the camera on my phone to both see up in the hole and use my long extension with a 10mm socket to get it. If you do lose one of the 10mm bolts, O'Reilly Auto Parts sells a perfect replacement... Disco Automotive Indented Hex Bolts... Part #13258PK. I think the USB cable is too short... didn't have time to go look for and buy a longer one. I ended up coming out on the right side of the center console by the cupholders. The right side panel snapped back in and its tight on the usb cable, but it works. I ran the wires in the glovebox like the guy did in the video. Only one problem with that... the glove box will no longer close. Those holes/slots are needed for the glove box sides. I ended up running the wires from the back of the glove box by the cabin filter. I ended up taking off the cabin filter cover and leaving it off. This way the glove box will now shut. I was able to hide the mic cord and the gps cord. I got it all wired and tested before I put the car back together. It all worked great. Downloaded GApps and it updated fine. I put the car back together and then tested everything again. It all worked, except there was no contrast in the Apple Carplay Maps after putting it back together... it was very washed out with no color, you could barely see the water, streets, and/or green sections. I thought I had damaged the video cable or the usb cable... I couldn't figure it out. Went in to the Vline settings and messed with display but no joy. I was starting to freak out because Car Play was the whole reason for this solution (for my wife's car). Ended up being the car's default Lexus Display settings... had to turn Contrast way down and that got the Maps looking much better in VLine. I have only had it running for a couple of days but it seems to work like a champ. I just wish there was an adapter to connect the VLine to the original two USB ports in the center console. That would have been a nice touch. But overall, other than being an absolute pain in the ass to install (not VLine's fault... I fault the designers of the Lexus), I think the VLine2 solution is awesome.

      Thanks for your post. I used a magnetic socket after seeing your comments. Install was a breeze, aside from routing the usb back to the arm rest so I didn't have a cable dangling out of the glove box.

    This is great. Does this drain the car battery if I don’t use it for a while?(Sometimes I go out of country). In that case what should I unplug to save battery? Thanks.
    Also I’ve heard many complaints regarding the call quality with CarPlay - did this get resolved in the latest version? A remedy seems to be used Lexus OEM BT connection for phone calls, but then the screen won’t be showing CarPlay - it’ll show Lexus call screen instead - any workaround if we have to go this route?

    • @gromaudio
      @gromaudio  3 года назад +1

      Thank you for your interest in VLine system. It does not drain the car's battery if connected properly. However it is advised to disconnect it from the vehicle just in case, if you leave the vehicle for more than two weeks.
      The phone calls on the CarPlay work good now.

    I'm assuming a 2019 infotainment with navigation can physically be installed into a 2016 Rx 350. What other steps would be needed by the installer and Lexus to provide the 2016 RX350 car access to 4G network?

    • @gromaudio

      Yes you can do it. The VLine model for Lexus RX 350 2016-2019 is LEX89VL2, it is available here: gromaudio.com/store/vline/grom-vl2-lex89.html

      Thanks for info! The VLine and USB modem with SIM would enable 4g for the existing out of service 2016 RX 350 3G infotainment system. However, I presume Lexus won't allow me to register the out of service system (based on s/n and VIN?) and reactivate a subscription to Enform, correct? The original question though was can a newer model 4g capable infotainment (say 2019) be retrofitted into a 2016 RX to access 4g network and working Enform features (remote start, car status, car GPS location, SOS, etc)? Thanks
