Matilda is well aware that what she did is wrong, and that is not the way you treat your employees. But business is hurting, so she is sorry and she will magicly change. Whi would tell that yelling is not acceptable or shaming employees is not acceptable. 🤮🤮🤮
to be fair just because articles and certain celebrities/influencers were all about "no makeup makeup" (which still involved quite a bit of makeup) i saw plenty of tutorials and posts of elaborate colorful and sparkly makeup. people are much more into doing whatever looks make them happy which i'm really glad is the new norm (compared to when i grew up in the 90s/00s it felt much more pressuring to be on trend).
"CLEAN" labels work like this: You bring a cake to your friend. Your friend says, "Nice! Sally made me a cake, too!" And then you say, "Yeah, well, my cake is CLEAN." You didn't SAY Sally and her cake are dirty. You didn't explain what makes your cake cleaner than others. But I bet your friend is going to think twice before she takes a bite of the cake that Sally gave her. She probably wanted it, maybe even more than yours...but she will have the cake YOU gave her, because you made her feel the other one might not be safe.
Swedish labour laws are quite strict- so much more strict than US-laws. Behaviour like Mathildas is not well known in Sweden as far as I know (I'm from Denmark an we have similar labour laws all though Sweden in generel have much more rules that protect employees than just about anywhere in the western world). The employees are younger girls it looks like glamoured by an influencer and my guess is that they did not have the experience in their worklife to know that this way of beeing treated is unacceptable. I am often surprised by how little protection employees have in the USA - in general we good conditions as employees.
@@Elena-di5hr managers with Mathilda’s behaviour are pretty not unusual in sweden unfortunately. But it’s true that we have a strong labour regulations system so there a cases that the managers get fired or as they say “got bought out”.
Swede here, about Matilda, it is not cultural 😂 I had never heard of her before our national news mentioned these happenings. Believe me, every other adult I heard mention it offline absolutely scoff at her answer and think she 'behave like one of those rude foreign influencers' :p
I think Matilda Djerf is again what happens when people get hugely popular too young (she got famous before she turned 20), she is basically a mean girl turned influencer and then brand owner not unlike James Charles. I'm Nordic and she has been a huge deal here, I bought her clothing and I love them but I never bought into the influencer, I found her brand randomly and then checked out who she was. Honestly doesn't surprise me this has come out and her non-apology doesn't surprise me either.
The birkins are yes typically seen sported by celebrities, but it technically is possible for anyone to buy them. Basically you need to have a purchasing history of sort with Hermes themselves. So for anyone wanting to buy a birkin from jump, it’s very unlikely you’ll get to walk out with one. You’d have to be coming back trynna establish a relationship with their sales associates and get them intrigued enough to actually show you a birkin. I’d recommend following Charles Gross on this topic, he is luxury item collector and is very intune to how these high end brands function
Well, we're not getting orders from Fenty either. I have no idea if this is because I'm living in Europe but I ordered on Black Friday, too, and until today have not even shipping information. I reached out twice - no response. I first thought that is a me-problem and that I'm the exclution but no, when you look at trustpilot I'm not. Do Americans have the same problem?
If you live in the EU, this may (or may not, I am not sure at this point) have to do with the new GPSR regulations of the EU that came into force on Dec 13th last year. The reason why I am not sure is that cosmetics may already be subject to specific regulations, but generally speaking the new GPSR (product safety regulations) apply to all comsumer goods with only a few being exempt. Still, they should reach out to you and give you a refund, if for whatever reason they cannot deliver.
Hi! In real life I work for a tech company that is all data privacy specific to the ad-tech world. To answer your question there are many many laws and regulations around how data can be used, stored and managed and every country has their own data privacy compliance laws. Cookies that you see on websites are a ways of grabbing your personal data and when you agree to cookies you are giving permission for your data to be stored by those sites. In a nutshell there is a big mismatch in US data privacy laws and China.
25:03 The dupes are also from a 3rd party seller, since Wal-Mart's website is more of a marketplace now. Wal-Mart probably removed the listing but it'd be a neat trick for Hermès to sue the actual company that listed it, given they're in China.
I was shocked to learn that Laura Geller was sold long ago; the brand must have a great relationship with Laura because she’s been the face the whole time. I looked her up because I was wondering how young she was when she started specializing in mature skin (30s lol), was shocked to see that she “took the money & stayed” long ago. I’m guessing she either has minimal ego or just appreciates the ability to not work 80 hrs/week, usually founders have to be run out of businesses to level up or stabilize after a trend cycle.
Chargebacks have timeframes, depending on whether it’s debit or credit, Visa or Discover, etc. please don’t waste months going back and forth with merchants. Some merchants know the timeframes and will string you along until they’re timed out. Once you exceed timeframes there is no recourse to recover the money. Save EVERYTHING associated with that transaction (receipts, emails, etc) and call the number on the back of your card to dispute if you are getting nowhere on your own.
honestly, i could even understand being snippy or impatient with employees because of stress. but what matilda did is straight up bullying, to be frank
I think we're going to see a lot of people closing down their businesses. The market is so saturated right now, and the threat of tariffs mean a lot of people won't be willing to take the risks unless they are big enough.
I remember a video she made telling about one of those laser hair removal devices. She actually acted like a normal person and I thought why can’t she act this way all the time?
Im 57 yo and enjoy your channel, but im too old to care about the young influencer brands, drama, etc. I stick to the OG brands that have lasted 30+ years

Seeing the Matilda story here is crazy cause it’s been such a big deal here in Scandinavia. And hearing Swedish ! People are so angry and pissed off because she has so many followers still. And I’m over here like….well look at JS and JC 🙈. I was actually dying to try her hair mist cause it’s apparently amazing for thin hair but I’m not going to now. And I only think she made a statement because she got caught.
Hidden cosmetics ghosted me like that too. i had ordered in June 2024 and even in November I still didn't hear anything. DM's, comments, emails EVERYTHING went unanswered.. they continued to post on instagram and never hear anything. positive comments were being replied too but my comments NEVER. i eventually got my money back from my bank but it was a fight! still frustrated to see that they are posting like nothing is wrong.
Wow!! Thanks for the Laura Lee info. I wish her the best of luck😊 I just spent 50 bucks. I just ordered a very nice brush set, 3 lip glosses, and the Fool Fantasy palette. 70% off discount shows in the cart.
I don’t get the appeal of Hailey. I think she’s one of the most regular “celebrities” i’ve had to see become famous. She doesn’t even have a personality that is enticing or anything like that.
Honestly I’m not surprised Laura Lee is shutting down her makeup company simply put there is too much competition now for makeup that their now starting to cannibalize each other. You’ve got influencer, celebrities, indie, drugstore, conglomerate brands and etc. It’s just too much for the over saturated market. On top of that skincare has completely taken over. Not to say makeup is over, it’s still popular but not the juggernaut that it was before.
If you are interested in a Birkin style bag, Amazon has a brand, Daisen ,who sells nice ones. They're vegan leather and come in a nice dust bag. I adore them. I've wanted a Birkin since I saw one in vogue as a young girl. I'm 60. For those who are uncomfortable with the concept. Nobody is losing out. Nobody. If you want a Birkin and can afford it, you're not going to settle for a look alike. And likewise if you consider a look alike, you're not able to pay 10k to 300k for a handbag.
@Rayanneey it’s plastic made to look like leather, it doesn’t feel like leather and is not as long lasting, even the “vegan leather” that’s made with plant/mushroom fibers is filled with plastic. It will always be better for nature to buy real leather and take care of it properly instead of plastic leather but I can understand if people don’t have the money for it
@vanessaa7602 honestly was worried I came off as a bit too b*tchy in my reply but I've seen too many people talk about plastic leather as if it's better for the environment than real leather and I wanted to make sure they would be informed properly and not fall for any of the fake descriptions of it "being better for the environment", because yeah so much "vegan" stuff is just plastic like vegan wool = plastic vegan leather = plastic It's honestly much more genuine to call it's Faux leather than vegan leather if you dont wanna call if plastic leather, but I'ma stop rambling now lol
Most likely with the talc testing manufacturers are going to test it themselves for all incoming lots of the materials. That way if they find evidence of asbestos they can ensure the material is clean before manufacturing of the final product
The problem (and good thing) about companies these days is that they all think the shit that happens behind the scenes will stay behind the scenes. Thats how it had been for corporate companies for so long. But now people can prove things with cell phone pics/vids, theres more regulation, people are not afraid to speak out about extreme conditions. They are now more susceptible to being caught, it blows me away that they still try to get away with this stuff. Any company is one bad story away from being cancelled. Maybe its just me, but im so over all these “celebrities” having their own brands. I want to support the people who work hard to earn their money and who actually need it. For examplemoms who start to support their family and put all there blood, sweat, and tears in. Or a POC who used to be overlooked. A lgbtq entrepreneur who creates for the love and education and support their community deserves. Stuff like that.
I once followed Mathilda just for her hair... It's insane. She suddenly showed up in my feed yeeears ago, and her hair was/is absolutely iconic. Just for that she has an insane following. However, her kindness was so over the top that it didn't seem genuine to me and I thought my pessimism was at fault. So I was a passive follower and then saw this... Was I surprised? Yeah maybe at first, but then I remembered all that seemed off...
Jen, this was a very interesting episode (they always are) but I’m happy you brought up Matilda Djerf! In my opinion She has been so purposefully mean, an asshole, very entitled and very cruel to her employees for a very long time. It’s about time more people like you Jen are bringing this information onto RUclips and into the forefront! She has always given the “Miranda Priestly from Devil wears Prada and Anna Wintour attitude” but worse! I typically hear all super trendy things through my niece. She’s 17 years old and is very into IG and TT. I did watch the video with the employees and I felt incredibly sad and angry! The toilet sent me over the edge, the people who would feel constantly stressed being in the same room as her, having panic attacks is so disgusting to hear! You were not hard on Matilda at all in my opinion! Her “apology” wasn’t a sincere apology, she’s scrambling because this affects her money! I know she said she has hired professionals and will be implementing anonymous feedback forms on how the workplace is…..come on. You really think anyone who works under her would be honest? I wouldn’t be. I would be too scared that she would dig through things to find handwriting styles, looking through computers and their history. I would like for her to step down, have her platforms taken away and really do the work to grow and become a decent human being! Then come back to the company and let’s see what the employees have to say! I really wasn’t surprised to hear that Laura Lee was closing her cosmetic line and clothing line. I adore my products and clothing that I have. I feel like she’s been hinting that she was going to be closing her businesses and moving into a different direction. I applaud her for creating and maintaining these businesses with no inventors and doing it herself, with her husband Ty, her employees. That’s a huge accomplishment! I remember when she was the face of the Too Faced Peach Collection! I agree that the peach collection is absolutely the best selling collection we’ve seen to date at least in the top 3 of all time. I hope that she continues creating what she wants and is so happy ❤ with her decision and I wish her all the happiness and success moving forward! I’ve always loved Jeopardy! I will get some questions right but my recall memory is awful but I did get the questions all correct and yes it does feel so good to get Jeopardy questions correct, truly lol! Everyone have a wonderful day or night wherever you may be in the world ☺️
44:27 Im my opinion- its a “back-door” issue. Looking at legal filings it seems there is a backdoor to the app that allows data collection on ALL devices connected to a wifi . Whether or not they have the TikTok app uploaded on that device.
Let's be real: T*ump isn't concerned about protecting anyone. Whoever he agrees is an "acceptable buyer" for TikTok is someone we should absolutely be terrified of.
I think it’s only the Ciate London US site that’s having the issue. I am one of the people who has been waiting on an order since before thanksgiving. But they are still going to have products in the Allure January boxes. I keep telling myself they are just waiting for a shipment of products from the warehouse in the UK and had a bigger response to the Black Friday sales than they were expecting. I guess we’ll see.
Honestly I think some of Matilda's views happen because the videos are so short. When you're mindlessly scrolling by the time you think "oh I don't care about this let me scroll away" the video is already over. And if you're watching while doing something else, a video that short is gonna play a couple of times before you like, wash the flour off your hands to scroll to the next.
I have not yet heard one positive thing about TikTok shop from any creator that I've listened to, and there are lots of them. I don't think it would hurt the country if it was banned or the website was taken down. I'm sure youtube will get flooded with longer content, but that's OK. I think longer content is better for the developing brain lol
I've been saying this for months but I literally cannot figure out why it would be bad if a TikTok to be shut down. I get that it will hurt individual people but really I'm only concerned about individuals who are disabled or are small artists and things of that nature. And even then RUclips is better in every way for influencers so genuinely everyone is better off without TikTok
The issue with Chinese owned brands is that it is literally Chinese law that they have to hand over any and all requested info if government asks. Any USA laws on info would have same effect as banning app, it wouldn’t be available in USA as app would not be able to comply.
Wow, I’m more shocked with Ciate situation. It would be extremely concerning as they are apart of Iconic London, and Lottie London. They are all under the same family. Kinda of a bummer I like several products and they sent me PR in early September. Hopefully just a weird restructure/ acquisition and fixed soon.
I think the secret to fast fashion is that designs are poorly protected and Zara can literally copy the runway instantly. There’s probably nothing Hermes can do about the copycat Birkins. . 60 Minutes had a segment recently on Hermes and the prices are related to the scarcity of the product. Of course, I bet it’s great quality compared to the Walmart Birkin. Chinese manufacturers don’t recognize the rest of the world’s intellectual property laws unfortunately. So, what can Hermes do?
I’m definitely not a data expert, but a big reason that Chinese companies are considered such a concern is that China has laws that require companies to give the government access to basically any data/intelligence. (TikTok says that their US data is kept separate, but ppl don’t trust that bc the parent company is still Chinese.) so the concern isn’t really about companies having all this data on us, it’s that politicians believe that the Chinese government could potentially force TikTok to give up data on Americans.
…which is kind of a BS concern, given Zuck has a history of “yes” with the US government (to date saying yes to upwards of 100,000 requests for information a year) and if anyone thinks their data is safe with Musk… well. 😒
I’m all for simplified makeup and beauty routines, but this “no makeup” makeup trend is sooo boring! To me, it’s beige makeup to match the beige house, the beige clothes, and be personalities. Give me color and creativity, dang it!
44:34 this is exactly what I've been thinking this entire time! Everyone always says its about "data" but they never specify what kind of data. Is it not just the same kind of data that every other non-china based app on my phone collects? The impression it gives me is that they must be talking about data used to market to individuals, which I cant imagine is much different from what instagram, youtube, or any other app collects.
Honestly Laura Lee’s brand closing feels overdue

This is such an excellent pared down analogy.
Loving the opening edits! Looks great!
“I’m so sorry that the way I treated you affected my business.”
Exactly.
PS: Project 2025 wants to eliminate/ reduce the FDA.
and the EPA
I think Matilda Djerf is again what happens when people get hugely popular too young (she got famous before she turned 20), she is basically a mean girl turned influencer and then brand owner not unlike James Charles. I'm Nordic and she has been a huge deal here, I bought her clothing and I love them but I never bought into the influencer, I found her brand randomly and then checked out who she was. Honestly doesn't surprise me this has come out and her non-apology doesn't surprise me either.
I don't remember Laura lee being part of the peach collection.🤷🏻♀️ I loved the foundation
I didn’t remember that at all! 🤣🤣
All of the influencers shutting down their businesses does not surprise me.
You’ll never see me shedding tears for Laura Lee. She showed us who she was years ago. Why does everyone act like she wasn’t horribly racist?
Well, we're not getting orders from Fenty either. I have no idea if this is because I'm living in Europe but I ordered on Black Friday, too, and until today have not even shipping information. I reached out twice - no response. I first thought that is a me-problem and that I'm the exclution but no, when you look at trustpilot I'm not. Do Americans have the same problem?
Ugh, sorry that happened. I live in the USA and I got my 2 orders quickly.
@mariahfoose9501 But good to know! Thank you for the information!
@@tulleandpens i got my order within 10 days and im in the netherlands. But i have no idea what CS is like with fenty 😭

The TikTok thing is wild because they DON'T care about all the American apps doing the exact same thing.
The Matilda story kinda reminds me of Ellen Degenres
At this point, just go to the store and pick up the things that you want. Websites are not trust worthy lol
This is the very first time I’ve found Laura Lee semi-normal, even bordering on likable. Why can’t she always be like this...
I remember a video she made telling about one of those laser hair removal devices. She actually acted like a normal person and I thought why can’t she act this way all the time?
Im 57 yo and enjoy your channel, but im too old to care about the young influencer brands, drama, etc. I stick to the OG brands that have lasted 30+ years
Yep, I’m 53 and I took a huge beauty hiatus and I can’t keep up with everyone that’s supposed to be ‘someone’ after being back.
@ i think they need a bit of "humble pie" and have people say "you're who? Never heard of you"😂
Okay but respectfully not everything is about you. Jen also has younger viewers who DO care about that stuff, so maybe it’s for them and you can tune in when what she’s talking about piqued your interest.
@@sasukeissocoollikeHi
I’m 56 and I find all beauty news interesting, some more so than others. I find the activities & shenanigans of the younger influencers amusing because I know their “time” is coming.
I think you may have misunderstood the meaning of my fellow older beauty enthusiasts. Please don’t put all of us older beauty enthusiasts in the same bracket.
We are all interested in beauty whatever our age. And as you said Jen provides info for all of us. With love from a rainy cold UK💕
@@sasukeissocoollike there’s lots of beauty channels that don’t know about many other beauty channels so I won’t feel shamed for not knowing who a lot of them are either especially after sitting through the video giving my time in views, liking and commenting because I understood another person not knowing about influencers brands or drama. Just like we have the ability to not watch you also have the ability to scroll past comments that don’t apply to you. Respectfully, neither of us said she should only make videos on stuff or people we know about referring to your comment that ‘not everything is about you’ again after watching the entire video.
I'm not on TikTok and have never been interested in their shop or most of the influencers that pushed their products there.
What in the Chat GPT is that Aura Beauty Pinterest article?!
“I feel like this may just be a $ thing…” YUP- and unfortunately American people are just going to keep being victim to greed by billionaires. 💔
Just checked the Ciate website from here in the UK and everything’s in stock… interesting!
Jen I’m so happy I discovered you ! Keep up the good work , love your content ❤
Good for those employees for speaking out about their awful boss. Power to the workers! Don’t be a dick to people ffs 😹
You have fast become my favourite content creator Jen
What is vegan leather? I need to go Google this term 😊
@Ryanneey it's not an animal product. I feels like leather but it isn't. BTW the bags are about $50.
@tracyfrederick5606 I googled it, and there is vegan cactus leather made from dried cactus. Very neat!
@Rayanneey it’s plastic made to look like leather, it doesn’t feel like leather and is not as long lasting, even the “vegan leather” that’s made with plant/mushroom fibers is filled with plastic.
It will always be better for nature to buy real leather and take care of it properly instead of plastic leather but I can understand if people don’t have the money for it
@vanessaa7602 honestly was worried I came off as a bit too b*tchy in my reply but I've seen too many people talk about plastic leather as if it's better for the environment than real leather and I wanted to make sure they would be informed properly and not fall for any of the fake descriptions of it "being better for the environment", because yeah so much "vegan" stuff is just plastic like
vegan wool = plastic
vegan leather = plastic
It's honestly much more genuine to call it's Faux leather than vegan leather if you dont wanna call if plastic leather, but I'ma stop rambling now lol
The Ciate coconut setting powder is my absolute favorite powder ever
Can’t even tell you how badly I needed this video!! 😅
That’s really sad. A business had to close because of celebrities
Awesome video Jen ❤
Most likely with the talc testing manufacturers are going to test it themselves for all incoming lots of the materials. That way if they find evidence of asbestos they can ensure the material is clean before manufacturing of the final product
Loved the intro! Fab video as always ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yeah maybe at first, but then I remembered all that seemed off...
love the new editing ❤
Jen, this was a very interesting episode (they always are) but I’m happy you brought up Matilda Djerf! In my opinion
She has been so purposefully mean, an asshole, very entitled and very cruel to her employees for a very long time.
Everyone have a wonderful day or night wherever you may be in the world ☺️
Excellent episode, thanks very much
44:27 Im my opinion- its a “back-door” issue. Looking at legal filings it seems there is a backdoor to the app that allows data collection on ALL devices connected to a wifi . Whether or not they have the TikTok app uploaded on that device.
Aura makeup sounds like the SciFi makeup I thought as I child we would be wearing in the 2020’s if you get me as a child of the 80’s
Jen! TikTok does not have to STEAL our data! We're providing it willingly!
"second casualty if 2025" omg its jan 5th, is the beauty industry okay??? hello??????
@@maximumbees there could be a tax reason businesses aren't closing until January. Like divorces, its best to get divorced in January for taxes
LOVE the new intro !! ❤
Wow, Matilda Djerk, treated people like that. 😮 Did any of her employees took videos of her mistreating them?
I live in the UK and so far the ciate website is still open and fully stocked. It'll be interesting to see what's going on here.
I actually knew all the questions because of you Jen❤
8:01 The whole industry is pivoting to skin care. She’s just following a business trend

The idea that people would know they are buying a fake would pretty much shut down Canal St. In Manhatten.
no one is going to Walmart thinking they're buying the real Birkin. If there's is that one person out there, thinking that's umm a tough life 🙃
Thank you Jen
Temu has Birkin looking bags for $30-40. They are listed as "luxury Handbag". No mention of birkin.
The sweet peach brushes and smoothing powder are missed.
I have a couple of Rhode clothing pieces and they are fantastic. It makes me sad that the brand had to go out of business this way.
I ordered a lot on Black Friday I got mine fast as hell… I will be bummed if they close
I will treasure my Laura Lee beauty palette and the collab she did with her niece
