Reminded what a peculiar but brilliant fighter Michael Spinks was.He could go from herky jerky Giraffe on ice to absolute killer in the blink of an eye.Add to that a constant ability to slip the opposing fighter's jab and a spiteful left hook and straight right hand, there is so much to see in Michael Spinks.Legend
Spot on. I never could stand Spinks and still can't for the most part, b/c of his fuckin wacko style, but must respect it b/c he got the job done, and had good power.
Past era tv highlights and documentary just phenomenal.about fighters......but today's era we doesn't have this kind of highlights or documentary..
Past era is the golden era's..
Weird career for Davis. Got a shot at 13-3, coming off a win over Yaqui Lopez and having given a young Braxton a really tough fight. After this, he bounces back with wins over contender Jerry Martin and future cruiserweight champ Jeff Lampkin, then loses his next 7 fights in a row to end up at 15-11. Fought killers almost every time out.
The Davis corner, great teacher and strategist JoJo Moore taught me how box. Johnny beat me up a little. Lol. Salute to them and Manager Bob Abrams who taught me a thing or 3 too.
Jo Jo Moore theirs an underrated Trainer
And a great family, I know most of them.
Johnny Davis's brother was my Basketball coach in the Air Force
Who Eddie? He was a World class 175pder too. Matter a fact he gave Spinks a better fight than Johnny. Close but clear decision.
You are correct, that brother is James " Big Boy" Davis. He and another brother, Moses, are good friends of mine. Moses says that t he best fighter of all of the kids is their oldest sister. Seeing the size of James hands, I cann't imagine getting hit by them
That would been some fight michael spinks vs roy jones jr
Spinks would knock him cold out!
NO DOUBT ....M S......... ALL TIME GREAT!!
davis would have had much more success as a super middleweight , but that weight came about 10 years later
It was a good fight. Davis was game, Spinks was better. When the light heavies meant something.
Schenkel was ABC's jack of all trades announcer and he did get his start announcing fights in the late 1950s but I always thought he was not a great blow by blow guy. He misses too much. In round one. Davis hurt Spinks with an overhand right with about 1:25 left in the round. Spinks went to the ropes and covered up while Johnny attacked but CS must have been looking down at some copy because the next words out of his mouth were "Johnny Davis...he is game..." Believe it or not, I much preferred Cosell or the great Keith Jackson. Jackson's signature was college football but check out the Mike Weaver vs. John Tate epic. He is terrific in that fight.
Jackson best call was Chacon vs Limon 3 fight of the year
@@georgeeverhart8413 I think you mean their 15 round 4th fight where Bobby got a close decision.
@@MrCrystalcranium yes. Was a war.
My favorite part about the Weaver-Tate call was Jackson showing concern for the condition of ayate as he lay motionless on the canvas. Then about 20 seconds later Tate’s blinks his eyes while still not moving and Jackson tells the viewers “he’s alright”.
Long forgotten fighters on this here channel
Mobile phones and social media changing, behaviours daily

Michael Spinks was pure class. Top 10 p4p all time fighter.

Johnny Davis scored a win over Dwight Muhammad Qawi....
@@Chris33850 Thanks, Captain Obvious!
It’s amazing that this guy is the same Michael Spinks that fought Tyson. I was talking about Spinx how unbearable he was a heavy weight with a buddy of mine he’s not dead serious and like me and he said the only thing you remembered about Michael Spinks is how afraid he looked in the build up and then the actual fight against Tyson. I didn’t remember it that way and then I watched again and he really did look like a totally different fighter against Tyson. He didn’t have that confident look that he has here pre-fight he actually looked petrified before the bell against Tyson. Then again could you blame him?
The fear on Spinks face entering the ring against Tyson was a meme before meme’s existed
