God, I followed your tutorial two or three years ago for the winter soldier cosplay, and it was absolutely wonderful. I'm working on an Obi-Wan cosplay now (obviously) and when I saw that this video was by you I was so excited! Ik this was posted a hot minute ago, but thank you so much! Your tutorials are so wonderful!
I'm very proud of the Jedi robes I've made, it's very much inspired by an Old republic look, I used a brown long sleeve undershirt, a sand colored bathrobe that I cut the sleeves off for the robes, for the tabard I used a pair of khaki jeans, a gray scarf for the belt and a sleeveless black robe for the cloak, I also took the side ventilators off of a respiratory mask and painted it black and gold.
Thank you! I used this to make a tunic for my son for May the 4th. It was so helpful and works perfectly! Can't wait to watch some of your other videos for more inspiration.
This was amazing, thank you! For average sized guys (~5'-10") I would suggest you get 4 yards of material so you can use the extra for good lapel/cross material. Also check to make sure the material isn't easily permeated by light!
I usede this Turorial to make a sleeveless version as I a a fat giant and did not want to do sleeves separately I made it in 4 hours dealing with my bad sewing machine and dull scissors this is totally doable for any beginner I guess sleeves are important if you take off the top. robe
Thanks a lot really helped me put a tunic together today. Only advice would be for a man go 2" out from under the elbow. A great video. May the force be with you :)
I know its old but I don't think the sticky velcro would work very well would it? Like wouldn't it un-stick after awhile of usage? I'm going to get an obi made so. Unless its different for fabric than say leather?
I haven't had a problem with it yet, but mine's only a couple years old, so it might come unstuck at some point. But if you don't want to have to worry about, you can just use sew-on Velcro. That lasts pretty much forever if you use strong thread. Or you can also use snaps if you have a preference over Velcro.
I ended up using about 3 yards, but I'm just north of a hobbit as far a height, so if you're on the taller side, you might need a bit more. Unless you're doing the short version of the tunic, in which case 2 yards is probably plenty.
It was a linen-look fabric, so yeah it was nice and lightweight. I found it in JoAnn fabrics. They usually only have it out in the spring and summer, so I'm not sure it'll be back out yet, but within the next couple weeks they should probably be putting it back on the shelves.
If you're hand sewing it, I'd recommend getting waxed thread. Cuts down on thread tangling. Also double-layer the thread. Makes it stronger, and less likely to break while you're saving the galaxy from the forces of evil.
I'm short, so I can flip a piece sideways and have it fit me. However, if you're taller, just take two pieces and sew them together to get the size fabric you need.
I know I’m late and this is a stupid question but the folded fabric at 0:19 looks so small and you skip to the phase where you’re cutting and it looks so much bigger. Did you unfold it? Or is the fabric bigger than it seems? Sorry I don’t do anything art related!
Yeah, the fabric was too big for the camera to see the whole thing, so I used a smaller piece, just to demonstrate how it should be folded to cut. The actual fabric (the part I'm laying on a few seconds later) is much bigger.
I know this is an older vid, but how long would you say this took? I plan on doing this for Halloween and don't always have a lot of time. I'm hoping to sit down and do it in a day
I did it in two days, making the outer robe one day and the inner robe one day, but they were just partial days. So yeah, I think you should be able to do the whole thing in one day. It's all pretty basic sewing and cutting, so nothing too time consuming.
The one I used was either a linen or linen-look fabric (not exactly sure which, since they had the two kinds on the same shelf in JoAnn's). Basically it's light, somewhat crinkly, and can be frayed good if necessary (would work pretty well for Rey too actually).
+The Woodland Elf much appreciated friend fyi I subbed because star wars + cosplay + awesome person = great channel but I need to find this in black because reasons... this is not the Sith you're looking for
Which version of Anakin, child or adult? (And I haven't forgotten Kylo Ren; he's still coming too, just takes me a little longer to complete requests this time of year, since it's my busy season).
Yup, that shouldn't be a problem. One of my farm markets ends for the season next month, so I'll have a bit more time to work on requests then. I'll make sure to get Anakin done by then.
Thank you for this! I am working on my first Jedi Tunic, this is going to help a bunch!
Good luck :-)

Thank you for this great video! Exactly what I needed; a very compact and clear video to follow! Time to work on my tunic now!

Thanks. Excellent tips 👍
Nice job... I'm planning mine for Halloween this year, and for cosplay after. Also need to make one for my 7 year old son.
Good luck. And may the force be with you 😊
Thanks ma'am for this tutorial!

awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching :-)
Can you please tell me if you're working with 45" material or 60" material. That would help tremendously!
It was 52" material for the tunic. And the outer robe was 45" material. (I'm short, so you might need something longer if you're taller).
Awesome tutorial! How many yards of fabric did you use?

Thanks for making the tutorial. What fabric did you use? I have an event in Texas summer and was hoping for pointers on something lightweight...

Without the robe you look like leia Princess Leia so you just have to do your hair looks great!
+Jedi training: lightsabers and such - Yeah, those darn cinnamon buns and their 1 million bobby pins to hold 'em in place, lol.
Greetings, force user. Much like my new lightsaber I'm in need a new Tunic!
Any pointers for a Padawan sewer?
If you're hand sewing it, I'd recommend getting waxed thread. Cuts down on thread tangling. Also double-layer the thread. Makes it stronger, and less likely to break while you're saving the galaxy from the forces of evil.
How did you get extra wide fabric? My store only has a shorter size than I need
I'm short, so I can flip a piece sideways and have it fit me. However, if you're taller, just take two pieces and sew them together to get the size fabric you need.

I assume you used 45" wide fabric for the tunic?
Yup, just the standard 45"
i am a kid and i want to make this costume. do i need to go 13inch down too?
It depends on how small you are. If you're still on the smaller side, you can probably just go about 8 or 9 inches down.
Thx
what material would you recommend for le tunic
The one I used was either a linen or linen-look fabric (not exactly sure which, since they had the two kinds on the same shelf in JoAnn's). Basically it's light, somewhat crinkly, and can be frayed good if necessary (would work pretty well for Rey too actually).

You're in luck, the dark side has already infiltrated the fabric store, for it does indeed come in black.
+The Woodland Elf thank you kindly friendly

could you do a Anakin Skywalker costume tutorial?😯😯😯😯😯😦😦😦😦

Could you do adult Anakin Skywalker
Oh yeah could you end up doing it within 3 months and 2 weeks from now?
